Ramesh Sippy is an Indian film director and producer who is best known for his iconic film "Sholay," released in 1975, which is considered one of the greatest Indian films of all time. Born on January 23, 1947, in Karachi, British India (now Pakistan), Sippy hails from a prominent film family. His father, G.P. Sippy, was a noted film producer.
Ramesh Sippy began his career in the film industry in the 1960s and quickly gained recognition for his directorial skills. He directed several successful films, including "Seeta Aur Geeta" (1972), "Shakti" (1982), and "Saagar" (1985). However, it was "Sholay" that catapulted him to unparalleled fame. The film, an epic action-adventure set in a rural Indian village, achieved cult status and is remembered for its engaging screenplay, memorable dialogues, and stellar performances.
Sippy's directorial style was characterized by his ability to blend different genres seamlessly, incorporating elements of action, drama, romance, and comedy in his films. He demonstrated a keen eye for storytelling, using innovative techniques and striking visuals to captivate audiences.
Throughout his career, Ramesh Sippy received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to Indian cinema. He was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian awards, in 2013. His impact on Indian cinema is immeasurable, and his films continue to be celebrated and revered by audiences and filmmakers alike.
Currently Ramesh Sippy is the Chairman of Media and Entertainment Skills Council (MESC).

Sippy Saab, I have seen Sholay 32 times till date and I am 60 years old now and from Bangalore. Sholay was running in Santosh theatre and the maximum audience were repeaters. The perfect thing about the film is the technicality, casting, location and BGM. Even actors in small roles such as Imam sab, Kaalia, Samba are perfect. The sound recording is mind blowing, even small sounds like train breaks, sheep and goats screaming, Gabbar Singh's footsteps sound especially when Veeru throws the coin it feels like he threw the coin in the auditorium. Everything was perfect.
शोले की कामयाबी में सूरमा भोपाली और अंग्रेज़ोके ज़माने के जेलर का भी बहुत बड़ा सहयोग मिला है। कालिया , सांभा और ईमाम साहब ने भी खूब अपना रंग जमाया है।

Sholay is a part of our life. Watched it more than 100 times. Fir bhi baar baar dekhne ka mann karta hai.
Ramesh Sippy was very lucky to have had a supporting father. It is very rare in our community to let a young mN follow his heart. Even today fathers like to enforce their decisions on their kids.

I am shocked nobody has asked about Pancham's contribution in the journey of Ramesh Sippy.
I posted same kind of comment, this shows anchor's lack of preparation...because Sholay wouldnt have been Sholay without Pancham's music
Dear Friends, There were so many questions which we couldn't ask due to short time. We had questions for 3 hour long interview, but Mr Sippy had a very important meeting in ministry. So we had to end the interview in a hour or so. We had questions about Pancham da, Shaan, Sagar, Akela, Buniyad etc. Even generic questions about todays bollywood industry, Propoganda movies, OTT culture, The Kashmir files, Kerala Story, Besharm Rang etc. We are as much disappointed as you guys are. Pure bad luck.

Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay, Saagar, Shakti and Shaan wouldn't be the movies they became without Pancham's music.
The quality of sound in all these movies was outstanding.
'70mm Stereophonic Sound' was a key element of Sholay's posters and music album.

The obsession with Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra is understandable...they deserve it for their superlative performances. It disappoints me immensely that Sanjeev Kumar, one of the stellar actors of that era is simply a footnote. He is only mentioned in the context of his relationship with Hema ji. Thakur being the central character in Sholay, it would have been very interesting to get the director's perspective of Sanjeev Kumar's performance. A missed opportunity, in my opinion. It saddens me immensely that Sanjeev Kumar is forgotten.

I watched many interviews of Great Mr Sippy. Few common things in all interviews.
He never praises himself.
He never finds fault in others including current film industry. Looks like attitude of his own character Jay who couldn't find any fault in his friend Veeru
A truly genius film maker and person.
In my view Indian Cinema couldn't produce any film closure to Sholay till now🙏🙏

Indian interviewers seem to be obsessed with personality, anecdotes, and non-important aspects of filmmaking. Why not ask about which camera was used, how they created light, how difficult it was to shoot on film (as compared to digital now), which film was used for shooting, what were the lenses (prime, 35mm, telephoto), what type of stabilisation in lenses existed, etc.? Sirf personal kahaniyo pe poora interview nikal do😮...

Shaan bhi ek trend setter movie hai. Shaan ki shaili me bani Mr. India bahut hit hui thi. Shaan me bhi vilain Bharat se bahar ek tapu par betha Bharat ko barbad karna chahta hai. Yahi plot Mr.India me bhi tha.

I have been a very huge fan of Ramesh Sippy technical par excellence but watching this interview i wonder how he narrated his story n convince em for this interview is sucha drag unlike his films
This is not a original story. I know there is a similar Hollywood movie where three people go to a Mexican village to protect them against the dacoits. Apart from that there are many wild wild west movie of Clint Eastwood. So both combined and mixed up with song to make this movie. In that movie the actors tried to trained the villager to fire bullet also.
