I have watched several of your videos and enjoyed them. You tell the pros, cons, price and makes it easy for someone to buy the product or not. I am someone who does a lot of research on everything I purchase. Keep the videos coming.
I love your videos. You do a great job of reviewing items of all price ranges. That being said, the cost of this machine is borderline ridiculous in my opinion. Keep up your great videos.
Man that thing is sweet!! I’d love to have one but at that price point it’s no way. I’m looking forward to you putting your custom touches on it! Thanks for sharing Tom
Good review. I see a lot of comments about the price. I think I paid a little over $900 with shipping and a cover. There are many alternatives out there if you want to save a a few bucks. You could not be more spot on than when you said you have to learn how to use this. The pizza cooks quickly. one second it's almost done and 15 seconds later it's really done. In my experience every minute in the Blackstone equates roughly to 3 to 3.5 minutes in an kitchen oven at 400 degrees. Portability - yeah its so close though. If the cart was designed that the legs inserted into the cart, I would be leaning towards it being somewhat portable. Thermometer - I think one of my best investments was the cheap $20 thermometer gun. It seem to do the job. The thermometer on the oven is a good gauge that the oven is up to temp. Another key point, the bottom stone temp has to be at up to temp. this was a learning for me. The top was done but the crust was not so much. Getting the bottom a little higher then turning it down to low works well. Shelf wise. As I have been using it I am trying to think how I would utilize a shelf. I would be interested in learning what you used the drop down shelves on the older model for. I like Papa Murphy's pizza, especially on their Tuesday specials. I saw one video where person flips it ones to get it off the tray and again to get it onto the peel. I found 10 to 15 minutes in the freezer and the pizza will come off the tray provided easily. I purchased the cover. It is actually pretty stout. Recommend this as well.
@Scott Carroll, Thanks for Watching Scott! Good tip on the papa Murphy’s I will try. Here’s the video of the folding side shelf mod I did. Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/lI7U-v4TNCQ/видео.html
Portable because it has wheels. Stationary would be taking the too off and putting the legs on it. If it has wheels it portable, if doesn't have wheels it's basically no portable it would be classified as non portable. Like your video. I just caught a demo marked down for clearance and bought for $95 plus tax. Got me a heck of a deal. My daughter will enjoy it for Christmas this year. Can't wait to see her reaction.
Great video. Thank you for your honest review of this. I am very excited for this, granted it's out of my price range for now. Keep the great video's coming!
I enjoy your videos 🎉 I find them all informative and entertaining. It’s also obvious that you NOT the marketing arm of some bbq company. Thank you and please keep the pizza videos coming!
Great review. Am on the fence about purchasing. You have made up my mind just don't let my wife know... Thanks for taking the time to give an honest review.
Nice video Tom. I personally love your “affordable” videos. Love the land of grills. 800 bucks for pizza. I bought the Auto Kamado on sale. Makes pizza with a $20 dollar stone really well. 800 dollar propane pizza oven? Thank you for your videos. Expensive.
Hello Tom - Thanks for the thoughtful review!! IMHO - The old units are more adjustable than the new ones, hearing this time & time again. I have two of the older ones and love them. The reason from what I have learned that BLACKSTONE stopped making the old style one was that they copied someone else's design and got sued for it and had to take them off the market. The original inventor was a Swedish inventor that lived in Michigan somewhere and had the design patented - Blackstone copied his design and went to court and lost!! The older design wasn't as pretty as the new one but more functional. The rotisserie unit on ours went out and we upgraded to one that is much more stout we found on Amazon. The issue with the bushing is a quick fix just hog out the old one with a file, problem solved. Shelves are nice and used for upcoming pies or finished ones. Adjustability is key and for whatever reason, probably saving .15 cents, the valve for adjusting the flame on the new one appears to not have near the adjustability as the old ones. Adjusting with the bottle regulator is hard to do on the new ones where it is easy to get to on the old one. Having the on off of the rotissere on the pad as opposed to having the switch integral to the motor unit is probably a way to sell more BLACKSTONE ONLY parts, the old style used off the shelf parts that you can buy I'n multiple places. Lastly, the money grab. 1000.00 for their unit compared to the 269.00 I paid for our old one when it was brand new is absurd. I hope they choke on it. Double maybe with covid and the economy, three times nah - no interest whatsoever in buying a new one when the old one was heads and tails above it for 1.3 the money. Also, am I mistaken or is the new motor directly screwed to the bottom of the unit? That would possibly make that a BLACKSTONE ONLY part going forward.
I bought blackstone's pizza conversion kit last year, so was a little surprised to see this come out so soon after. But hey, that one has numbers on the thermostat. Anyway, just found your channel, nice to see another Midwesterner giving reviews
Thank you for the honest review. I wouldn't buy this with the assumption that it is portable, other than the cart allowing you to move it around the patio easily. It's more like you have the option to use on the cart or put it on a counter or table if you prefer. The temp gauge does seem a bit useless, but not a deal breaker.
Super excited to see black stone bring this oven back , I own the original one and I also own the Ooni koda 16 and I think it puts ooni to shame, my question is the new stone same size as in the original oven ? Thanks for the video great job
I have yet to be able to cook a pizza on mine but great for steak and chicken using a cast iron pan. I have tried pizza at 400 and 600 seems to just burn on bottom raw a top. I have used large tortillas to make pizzas with great success. Not sure what I am doing wrong.
Thanks for watching Dewayne! I’ll get my stone to about 450 ish, I then turn flame on high so I get the wrap around flame that helps cook the top, hope this helps
Quick question, maybe I missed it... Can you temporarily shut off the rotisserie motor while leaving the burner on -- to help with launching the pizza, or for example to set two detroit style pizzas in their pans side by side -- and then turn the motor back on?
Thank you for your review. I just put mine together but the batteries are difficult to keep in the box while I put the cover on. And then discovered that the motor doesn’t work with the batteries but, works when plugged in. Have you heard if this a problem for others?
I have the Original BlackStone, bought it in 2011 for $299 on Groupon. After all these years I had to replace the Middle where the temp dial is about 4 years ago. When Blackstone was getting out of the Pizza Oven business a few years ago,I was able to get many FREE parts.7 Motors,a few extra Stones and 4 Middles(Control and pushbutton area}and 2 Rotating things that hold the stone on the grill.Only thing I did not get was extra legs and the Top Cover butttt over all I have replacement parts for. the next 20 years..As the New Oven I feel its a rip off since it does the same thing as our $299 product does.I know cost have gone up on everything butttt $899 is too high, but its worth it if you want the real deallllll.
Question…in making it mobile..could you not put the screws in…..would it stay in place with its weight alone?…..if you put the legs on it…do you have to take them off in order put the oven on its stand?
While I get $800 is a lot when you look at similar ovens the Blackstone is way more affordable. The lower-end home pizza ovens in similar configurations are roughly $1200 to $1400. The Blackstone one is way more user-friendly and I am super excited for mine.
The first thing through my head was Blackstone is not priced according to cost but to sit just below the overpriced boutique pizza ovens havering around a grand. I mean, at the end of the day, look at what it costs to make this? A rotisserie motors, two pizza stones and a lot of aluminum.
Love the video. Do you happen to have sugar in your pizza dough? My understanding is that high temp pizza ovens need neopolitan style dough made without sugars to help prevent burning.
I love my original Blackstone pizza oven. I like the rotating stone button on the face of this new Blackstone oven. That's a nice upgrade. (I'm not sure what that will look like if you need to find a replacement rotisserie motor since you have an external push button coming off it now) What was Blackstone thinking when it comes to the thermometer? I realize most temperatures for pizza need to be in a general range and not an exact temperature but this is just unacceptable for a pizza oven given its price. This is what you would expect on a cheap $150-200 pizza oven. Not one that costs 1K+. Speaking of cost, how does Blackstone charge 3X the cost of their original pizza oven and it doesn't come with folding side tables? No one in their right mind would pick a pizza peel holder over side tables. I get that it's cheaper for Blackstone to add a pizza peel and peel holder then some side tables to each unit but you're also paying $600+ more for this new version. There is no excuse for Blackstone on this. They're simply cutting corners for a bigger profit in my humble opinion. The first Blackstone pizza oven was ahead of their time. The homemade pizza oven craze didn't come for another 5+ years. Blackstone would absolutely be crushing everyone if they had their original Blackstone pizza oven in today's market for $350-400. Now they are fighting to get back into the market and 2- 3x more expensive against some of the more popular pizza ovens. I wish them well but this is going to be a tough sell given the price point with no side tables and an odd thermometer. Time will tell how this ends up.... I appreciate the video nonetheless! I'm looking forward to checking out some of your other videos!
Don't think this one was worth it? Smashed the like button as always, hope it helps your channel, love your reviews. I might not comment on all your videos, but I do watch them, your reviews are much appreciated!
Check your local Walmarts! I got mine yesterday for $115.70 wasn’t even looking for it just wondered over there, thought something was wrong with it but was told they need it gone, because they are changing the area over to the Christmas Season, and it was fully assembled with the cart
I may have missed it, but can you stop the rotation in order to place the pizza, and then restart it once loaded up? Is there a switch or can you simply unplug/plug in the motor once preheated? Love the heat output but too expensive for the compromises/materials used.
Good detailed video explaining everything my question is do you ever see an issue with the speed that the stone rotates or would a speed option be better to have great video 🔥👍
Thanks for Watching Christopher! Good question! No natural gas conversion that I am aware of. In the review video I show the on/off button for the stone next to the gas dial on the face of the grill
Awesome video Tom, I would agree it’s too heavy too large to bulky too pricey, look at the Halo pizza oven it would put the Blackstone to shame. I’ve had three Blackstone products over the last four years and they rust they’re not meant to be stored outdoors with covers
Evan I was looking at this one and the Halo Versa 16... have you tried or seen the versa in action? I have a ooni koda 16 and it works but i have to do one hell of a dance to not burn NY style to a crisp.
I’ve been waiting for this to come out. Looks impressive but pretty steep price. How long do you think a 20 lb tank will last? It seems when firing it up it really burns hot. Gonna watch the assembly video when available. Hey a little dark on the bottom but still probably wasn’t too bad. Thanks for sharing Tom!
Thanks for Watching Jay! The propane, no longer then the original, hard to calculate based on out door temp and what initial temp you are looking for. In the past the original would last most of the winter using once a week . Thanks again for Watching and supporting
Great review. Thanks. Do you have a sense of how fast it goes through gas? Imagining it going full bore, one pizza after another... If you had to estimate how many hours of full bore heating a tank of gas would last?
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Hi Tom, sorry to keep pushing.. .When I asked about anecdotal experience I was still referring to gas use... Just trying to get a rough idea. No worries if not...
I have the original. I believe I paid like $270? For this to be $800 is absolutely ridiculous imo. I think they're shooting themselves in the foot with this price. Maybe they'll come to their senses & lower it if they release it out to retailers. Thanks for reviewing it!
When you made the pizza the temp was about 650 ish, which was too hot. I noticed the Blackstone "gauge" was still not in the orange zone. I will wait for other buyers to do Blackstone's R&D.
it's been done for about 8 years now. there is no material difference between this and the OG. the OG has turned out thousands of amazing pizzas, but you have to know what you are doing, just like any oven.
if anyone is having this issue, bring the stone up to temp a bit more slowly at a lower burner setting and give the temp a chance to balance out. sure if you go full flame thrower on it, the outer edge will be hotter - at least initially. it is an oven, not a magic wand. you still have to use some common sense and skill. 🙄
Hi Tom, I love your videos. I have a mod idea that I have not seen done anywhere, and I was wondering if you can kick the idea around and maybe do a video on it if you know how it can be done. I bought a new Weber Performer grill last year (not the deluxe, just the regular performer with the folding table). The table is kind of short, yet when you fold it down, it looks like there's plenty of room to make that thing another foot or even more longer. Would you be able to show us a mod where you make that table longer, yet still able to fold and be stable?
Thanks for watching Thomas! I do not have that style of Weber performer. I do know which one you are referring to though. A wooden top longer then the metal top attached from underneath with sheet metal screws might work
first ,I dont think the spinning stone is a great option , I would rather have the cooking area with a wider stationary flat stone , also I think having the rotating stone turned off to start is way better way to get the pizza on the stone then to have it spinning and putting it on .... not crazy about the temp. gauge also and I think the burner is too big for the oven myself and I was wondering about gas consumption?? seems like the oven has to run a long time before using it and I understand about pre heating the stone and oven, just think the burner and stone design leaves a lot to be desired......Thanks for the video !!
Thanks for the good informative video. But I feel that $800 is WAY too high for this oven. I bought three of the original Blackstones, all for well under $300 ea. I see little on this oven that makes it superior to the original. There definitely *are* alternatives that can do the same thing. I'm going to be buying a fourth oven this summer and I'm currently looking at the Halo Versa 16. 16" rotating stone, propane, and it only weighs about 50 lb. No stand, it sits on a counter or table top. It'll reach over 900F, but like you, I prefer about 600 degrees.
That would be Great for situations where you want to make a bunch of pizza's like a outdoor party, graduation, or other large gathering event. To make just one pizza, I don't know what propane costs where you are but here it $35/20lb tank, and I think you are going to go through a bunch of gas even just pre heating the unit plus the $800 price tag, just way too pricey I think.
Having cooked many, many pizzas in my life, I would recommend purchasing and using the wire mesh screens right on the pizza stone. Makes it easier to place the pizza as well as controls the heat so you don't burn the crust before the cheese is browned.
Hi Frank from Liverpool UK. Just viewed your review on pizza oven. Must say $800 way overpriced, and you never mentioned the cost of the gas per fireing up. Any chance of a volume use per gas bottle.
Not worth the money. The old Pizza oven would stop turning. It was a simple fix, which I let Blackstone how how I fixed it. I just put high heat grease on the shaft. Once I did that it never stopped again. I have had mine since June 2017. Still working perfectly. Still Making good pizza.
Hi Tom, those 4 feet are still supposed to be used to help secure the top oven into the stand. You just pull off the plastic feet from each L shaped metal bracket foot. Keep up the good work.
I assume the pizza oven wouldn't fit in the frame of the cart with those stubby legs already installed. So, I'm guessing portable, if you discard the cart. I think the reason they included the stubby legs is for people that have an outdoor kitchen. Can you get one without the cart? Yep, $800. 🤣🤣
The price is a downer I wouldn’t spend that kind of money on a pizza oven. The only way that is portable is if you don’t use the cart and just put the small legs on it . I don’t believe it is designed properly. No shelf would be a walk away for me. It would have to make a lot better pizza than what you had heck I can make them in my house oven a lot better than that. There are other south there a lot cheaper.
I love Blackstone products, but let's be honest. ANYTHING is portable.....if you want or need it to be. But how practical??? Not happy with Blackstone on this one......Just Saying.........
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I watched the whole video you didn't attach the feet! On the feet there is rubber covers they slide off and you insert the four corners into the cart. Don't screw it underneath. And if you want to use it as a counter unit you slide those rubber feet back on.

Thanks for Watching Evan! Appreciate the feedback
Thanks for watching! I’m not sure what the gas usage would be
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Thanks for getting back... Do you have any anecdotal experience using either the old one or the new one?
The new one gets hotter and gets hotter faster. It’s also $500 more than the old one. Side shelves were nice on the old one
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Hi Tom, sorry to keep pushing.. .When I asked about anecdotal experience I was still referring to gas use... Just trying to get a rough idea. No worries if not...
Not sure what you are looking,,, I don’t have as I stated factual info on gas use
Great video. I'd need that grilla grills I would do pizza on it lol
Thanks for watching!
I have the original. I believe I paid like $270? For this to be $800 is absolutely ridiculous imo. I think they're shooting themselves in the foot with this price. Maybe they'll come to their senses & lower it if they release it out to retailers. Thanks for reviewing it!
Thanks for watching Joe! Agreed, I believe I paid about $350 for the original
Walmart's on sale for $295.00 and its is still working. This new one is way out of price.
I have the original, could you post the replacement bushing here so I could order one? Thanks! Nice video overall.
Thanks for Watching! Never replaced it
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I was asking about the brass bushing you spoke of, do you have a link to purchase one?
Sorry, I do not, like I said, I never replaced it
That's a really cool cooker. Would love an auto rotating pizza cooker that's wood burning.
Thanks for Watching! Me too!
Looking forward to seeing your mod, shelves
Thanks Paul! I appreciate you Watching and supporting!
When you made the pizza the temp was about 650 ish, which was too hot. I noticed the Blackstone "gauge" was still not in the orange zone. I will wait for other buyers to do Blackstone's R&D.
Thanks for Watching!
it's been done for about 8 years now. there is no material difference between this and the OG. the OG has turned out thousands of amazing pizzas, but you have to know what you are doing, just like any oven.
Word around the campfire is it burns the edges and the middle is raw any input to put this at bay??? Thanks….
Thanks for Watching Jason, Time will tell, if you watch to the end it was burnt pretty evenly on the bottom. User error, next one will be better
if anyone is having this issue, bring the stone up to temp a bit more slowly at a lower burner setting and give the temp a chance to balance out. sure if you go full flame thrower on it, the outer edge will be hotter - at least initially. it is an oven, not a magic wand. you still have to use some common sense and skill.
A wooden top longer then the metal top attached from underneath with sheet metal screws might work
Just picked one up at Walmart for $178 on clearance!
Wow! That’s a great deal! Enjoy!
Please show a video of how you fixed your old one
Thanks for watching Tom! Here you go…ruclips.net/video/c5_huiykURw/видео.html
Great looking oven, but I don't like pizza enough to spend that kind of money on a pizza oven. Thanks for sharing Tom.
Thanks for Watching Bill!
first ,I dont think the spinning stone is a great option , I would rather have the cooking area with a wider stationary flat stone , also I think having the rotating stone turned off to start is way better way to get the pizza on the stone then to have it spinning and putting it on .... not crazy about the temp. gauge also and I think the burner is too big for the oven myself and I was wondering about gas consumption?? seems like the oven has to run a long time before using it and I understand about pre heating the stone and oven, just think the burner and stone design leaves a lot to be desired......Thanks for the video !!
Thanks for Watching John! Appreciate the feedback, Good questions
Great video. No way will I pay so much for that oven!
Thanks for Watching Harry! It is expensive!
Good Job Tom ! 👍Not that you needed my approval.
Thanks for watching John
Thanks for the good informative video. But I feel that $800 is WAY too high for this oven. I bought three of the original Blackstones, all for well under $300 ea. I see little on this oven that makes it superior to the original. There definitely *are* alternatives that can do the same thing. I'm going to be buying a fourth oven this summer and I'm currently looking at the Halo Versa 16. 16" rotating stone, propane, and it only weighs about 50 lb. No stand, it sits on a counter or table top. It'll reach over 900F, but like you, I prefer about 600 degrees.
Thanks for watching Pat! Appreciate the feedback
Looking forward to the second cook
Thanks for Watching! Soon!
That looks like a small or medium pizza? Not a Large 12-15" ???
Thanks for Watching! The stone is 16"
Very nice Tom, kinda pricey but very good
Thanks for Watching Eric! Agreed!
Thanks for Watching Norman! Appreciate the feedback
Wrong lol
Can it be converted to natural gas?
Thanks for watching! I’m not aware that it can be converted, but you could email Blackstone customer service and ask
is the new pizza oven made in usa
Thanks for watching Bruce! No
Big ups Tom for not editing the end out, a win is a win but sometimes ya have to lose first:)
Thanks for Watching! Next one will be better!
I knew you would have a video for this lol
I had too! Thanks for Watching!
Going to test the wild fire 4 in 1? Looks interesting
Thanks for Watching Brian! I havent heard of it.....
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ just popped up on my Facebook feed. Check it out
Love the pizza oven, wish it was a pid pellet grill (smoke), not sure about the price....
🍕 🍕 🍕 out of 5.
Thanks for Watching!
Having cooked many, many pizzas in my life, I would recommend purchasing and using the wire mesh screens right on the pizza stone. Makes it easier to place the pizza as well as controls the heat so you don't burn the crust before the cheese is browned.
Thanks for Watching Jeremy! Appreciate the tip! Thanks
Hi Frank from Liverpool UK.
Just viewed your review on pizza oven. Must say $800 way overpriced, and you never mentioned the cost of the gas per fireing up.
Any chance of a volume use per gas bottle.
Thanks for watching Frank! I’m not sure how to calculate that
Not worth the money. The old Pizza oven would stop turning. It was a simple fix, which I let Blackstone how how I fixed it. I just put high heat grease on the shaft. Once I did that it never stopped again. I have had mine since June 2017. Still working perfectly. Still Making good pizza.
Thanks for watching Ray! I enlarged the bushing on my old one and that worked for me
when i think of portable i think being able to wheel in and out of my garage 🤷♂. Looks nice though, way to expensive
Thanks for Watching Al!
Hi Tom, those 4 feet are still supposed to be used to help secure the top oven into the stand. You just pull off the plastic feet from each L shaped metal bracket foot. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for Watching! ok,,, didnt see that in the instructions
Way too expensive, would love to have one, but not at that price
Thanks for Watching Matt! Appreciate the feedback
You would have to make it portable or put it on the stand. You couldn't have it both ways.
Thanks for Watching Jason! Agreed
Tom Horsman - Have you tried putting a steak in this to see how it would work ?
Thanks for watching! Yes,,ruclips.net/video/JkCdu3n4HpA/видео.html
I assume the pizza oven wouldn't fit in the frame of the cart with those stubby legs already installed. So, I'm guessing portable, if you discard the cart. I think the reason they included the stubby legs is for people that have an outdoor kitchen. Can you get one without the cart? Yep, $800. 🤣🤣
Thanks for Watching Ted! You are correct!
At $800 it' is WAY overpriced ...my Cuisinart pizza oven ...does great for less than $200
Thanks for Watching Ralph! Appreciate the feedback
Thanks for Watching Glenn! Appreciate the feedback
If that's got salmonella flour on it I wouldn't recommend eating it haha
Thanks for Watching!
I love Blackstone products, but let's be honest. ANYTHING is portable.....if you want or need it to be. But how practical??? Not happy with Blackstone on this one......Just Saying.........
Thanks for Watching Joe! Appreciate the feedback
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I will still probably buy one!!!
Lol
Sem-o-lina.
Thanks for Watching Skeeter! lol
Hard nope.
Thanks for Watching Sam!
You got "salmonella" flour on the bottom? You got bigger problems on your hands...
Lol, semolina flour, mix that up every time. Thanks for Watching
800 dollars 😂😂😂 overpriced bruh
Thanks for watching
It is portable but you didn't attach the feet!!! Lmao since using mine 600-700 seems to be the sweet spot for pizza
Thanks for watching! If you watched the entire video you would’ve seen that
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I watched the whole video you didn't attach the feet! On the feet there is rubber covers they slide off and you insert the four corners into the cart. Don't screw it underneath. And if you want to use it as a counter unit you slide those rubber feet back on.
there is no sweet spot "for pizza". different styles of pizza require different temperatures - anywhere from 400-950.
salmonella flour. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm still rocking the OG from when it first came out. new one is fine, but over priced for what it is.
Thanks for Watching!
