Wouldn't it be amazing if RIS Talks will be like TED talks.. where you can find a website with so many lectures like this, professionally presented by Muslim's intellectuals. Thank you for putting this video up for us who couldn't be there. :)
ALLAH BLESS YOU SHEIKH HAMZA YUSUF , ALLAH AKBAR , I HEARED ABOUT U FROM FRIENDS BEEN IN USA AND UK , U ARE REALY GREAT ISLAMIC LEADER & HERO U ARE IN OUR HEARTS
shaykh Hamza Yusuf I met you only 2 hours ago having listened to two of your talks. I am a Christian, may be you will forgive me for that. I certainly do relate to what you say. Society, commerce, banking, virtue, healthful practices like eating all this and more I am in your camp. It would be my pleasure to be present when you speak. Send me a schedule when in San Diego or near by. I am not sure what might be appropriate to say, so "God Bless"
i'm willing to listen more from HY , about Reba , banking in islam, communisim , capitalism and the islamic economic system , today's scolars really ignore such issues in thier lectures .
I love when Shaykh Hamza quote poems during his lectures: Hope is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul, And sings the tune without the words, And never stops at all, And sweetest in the gale is heard; And sore must be the storm That could abash the little bird That kept so many warm. I’ve heard it in the chillest land, And on the strangest sea; Yet, never, in extremity, It asked a crumb of me. Emily Dickinson, 1830 - 1886
Assalamu Alaikum, MASHALLAH !!!!! Shukran , Love your Post, It's A very interesting Lecture, May Allah Bless our Brother Shaykh Hamza Yusuf And His Family, Ameen.
masha Allah this is the spirit and nobleness of Islam. where to be a good Muslim is not just to utter some sweet word or give mere beautiful lecture, but to behave in a absolutely Islamic way and to be faithful to the Islamic injunctions.
Thank you Sheikh Hamza for highlighting perhaps the most important third way to the false dialectics: Keynesian or moneytarist conception of ecomoics; the Planned or so-called self-regulating economy. We have always been told that religion is a personal thing and thus have nothing to do with our social discourse or our collective obligation to those less fortunate than ourselves. Talks like this ought to be encouraged to people to understand and appreciate their obligation to those in need.
The reason that MUHAMMAD (pbuh) was chosen to be a merchant. Because there is no one more beneficial to human society than a merchant. Everything ... the chair that you are sitting on is from commerce. the fillings in your teeth are from commerce. The medication that is keeping your blood pressue optimum is from commerce. Everything that is beneficial to the material well being of the human being is from commerce. Commerce teaches you a good character. Because the most successful merchants are the one with good character. The merchant can never get angry because if he got angry the person buying from him will leave and the merchant will lose the sale. They always say "customer is king","customer is always right" .So it actually creates good character. Because simply you are forced to care what others want in order to fulfill your sale. Plus another reason is that If you want your commerce to be successful you must be trustworthy. If you don't people will stop doing business with you. Muhamed was called "altaqer elamin" meaning the honest merchant. This man was chosen as a prophet of the greatest peaceful messages to Earth. Now we have over 1.6 billion human-being who embrace this message. Few hours ago I was buying oranges from a merchant who embraces that same message. However this man gave me 3 rotten oranges hidden under the rest. If that merchant knew anything about this message he embraced, he would know that misleading or falsely persuading others; and the practice of deceit has no part in that message he embraced. We have millions of people like this man that embrace this heavenly message by name. They talk and do in its name. Although all their doing contradicts Prophet Muhammed's message. Bottom line: Please know your message that you decided to embrace, have clear view of it, know the teachings of the man behind this message and share it based on a clear understanding by your acts and behaviors before words and statements. I would never believe this merchant nor his message ever again. So be-careful, you are a seller of your message that you embrace. ~Inspired by Sheikh Hamza Yusuf
Eloquently spoken. Don't get me wrong it's great to see that this issue is being highlighed to an audience of this scale and by a scholar of this caliber no less, however this issue has been expounded upon by Shaykh Imran Nazar Hosein and Umar Vadillo and others who are beyond just identifying the issue but are actively searching for practical steps Muslims can take to brace for the inevitable. Shaykh Hamza is providing some practical steps but action is needed promptly. time is almost up.
thank for informing the poverty of Indonesian workers that I've been long relizing that why only small people in the factories that gaining good livings, but many of the workers are just diging in diging out every month and still can't pay debts
Does anyone know where I could find a full transcript of this speech (if one exists), or an easy way to create one myself? I am working on a paper and really want to cite to numerous parts of this speech.
After the Great Debriefing we need to sort into Skills Development, Treatment and Assessment Groups in the areas of Education, Counseling, Consultation, Medical and Mental Health Treatment and Assessment, Community Development and Groups for Restoring Our Spiritual Economies and Environments from the inside out. Some skills we will learn is how to create and maintain healthy relationships with ourselves and others, anger and stress management, good communication and conflict resolution Skills
It is appropriate to say whatever just as long as it comes from the kindness of your heart, just as long as you wish the utmost best for whomever you are speaking to. Please be a voice for our collectivism, please do not see us Muslims as aliens for we are VERY similar to you. Good bless you! Peace and blessings be with you!
Great video, something for merchants to ponder about ... one thing I must say , Anglos and Americans established fair trade in the modern world. If it were up to asians and arabs nowdays to run the trade ... we'd be screwed. I got burned so so so many times by Baba merchants even though I am a muslim. And never by an amriki.
A healthy person in their twenties to thirties should only consume about 1200 calories a day and fast once a week or consume about 1500 calories a day and fast twice a week. The calories consumed have to be nutritious and beneficial though. Source: "How and When to Be Your Own Doctor" A must-read book if you care about your health.
Just to be clear again I have no issue with the message of his presentation, but he clearly states between 15.53 and 16.01 that the average American has 59 slaves working for him. Maybe it is a misquote (to be honest i cant find the reference anywhere) but he clearly does not suggest shared slaves. As a converted Muslim I find the inability of adherents to engage in meaningful self criticism abhorrent. Its a minor issue. Ours is a great religion it can withstand a minor math error Get over it
ASA The violence and abusive behavior in the Muslim World and indeed the World as a a Whole is because of fear of lettting go and letting Allah, God, the Creator Guiding us for a change rather than resorting to cruel out dated means that simbolises the anti Christ or ie the goodness of the Spirit of Allah, God, the Creator. We all need to participate in a Great Debriefing of where we have been, where we are now and where we want to be in a week, month, year, decade, century
I greatly admire his speech but 59 slaves per person in the US is impossible. multiply 300 million (us pop) by 59 and you get over 17 billion thats twice the population of the world
Great Idea! Let's stop buying chocolate. So the children coco workers can starve to death. Please read a book on economics before making a video about economics.

when he says meat, what exactly does he mean? Does he mean just red meat, or does he mean any kind of animal flesh (chicken, fish, etc.)?
Consuming the products of a business enhances its growth. An immoral growing business is no thing humane individuals want to see occur.
He should have talked about RIBA (interests).
