AOM marketing was selling a game that wasn't AOM, making it looking more cooler and enjoyable than it was, and now it looks like they are doing the same but opposite. So the problem is not just marketing but it definetly is a major one. Saints Row should be more popular and marketing doesn't do justice for new people, maybe 2 of 2000 people.

You don't say "don't buy this then" to you potential buyers. Especially when you are on the budget. (compared to other more successful studios of course) No wonder people got upset with what little info we got. According to people like Flippy, the game looks a lot better. But we are not seeing that yet and Deep Silver does not give anything concrete. Now should be the time to show something, to convince people. To convince fans to give them a chance. I would. But not with this attitude. Also whoever decided to call this game just plain "Saints Row", screw you.

The reveal was bad enough but Deep Silver making it an Epic Games Store exclusive is genuinely one of the most idiotic and short-sighted decisions I've ever seen.
While it's too late for that now, they really should've been a much larger group of friends, initially, which then slowly gets smaller as rival gangs pick them off one by one. They get in way over their heads and *_it should show_* . Consequences, you know. And that they have to harden their old lifestyle and their old image if they want to keep building their gang and become a major player. That apparently not one of these 4 college chumps didn't immediately get their head stomped in the moment they try to get into the game is weird and dissonant.

I agree, I never had the feeling that any single race or group was misrepresented in the previous games. While this reboot is pandering very heavily to the woke SJW zoomers, there's not a single white male in the supporting cast. I'm brown and I find this level of inclusiveness very off-putting. They don't even look like gangster material at all, I don't even want to know their stories. There's only so much change a person can inherently go through; "edgy, non-binary, hipster millennials who're down on their luck" will never be able to become the type of gangsters that fans of the series are expecting. This looks more like a Fortnite spin-off than a Saints Row game, literally no one asked for this. I hope this game is review bombed and boycotted to oblivion, and I hope whoever is responsible for greenlighting/directing this disgrace never finds employment in the Games Industry again. The series started declining after SR3 and now it's not even a husk of it's former self, please vote with your wallets people, that's the only way to get these publishers/execs/devs to listen.

@@casmith1998 It would be more than GTAO's and prob similar to 4. Plenty of colouring options for every piece of clothing with somewhat decent mixing, just expanded. Im not saying 3 or 4 had more to offer than 2, but if what they will offer is an extension to 3 and 4 then i won't mind if things like layers aren't again... In the game. It would be dope to have layers and wear options again tho, though perhaps a mix of both while having a lot of items might be too much for Volition, so who knows.

I have calmed down a bit and am no longer as doom and gloom as I was when I saw the announcement. However, I am looking more forward to SR2's rerelease patch than this game though.
I don't think anything can save this game. The gameplay might be decent, but I don't see them going with a bunch of nerds slowing becoming more gangsta, simply coz gangstas & gangsta culture are politically incorrect. Even SR3 & 4 were politically incorrect.
The irony is that in Saints Row 3 one of the biggest conflicts is brought up by Johnny. Johnny talks about how the Saints need to get back to its roots, and how they’ve lost what a Saint should be.

I heard some people are like “we don’t want something they already did.” And yet SR2 is one of the most loved in the franchise. It took something that already exists in objective and the contents of the city and changed it up in to something better.

Also what a lot of people have been saying is that the story maybe trash but the gameplay is good well I'm not just here for the gameplay the gameplay in saints row 3 was fine but I hate that game because it took the story of the saints and it kind of ruined it in my eyes. Saints row 2 the story was great and the gameplay was really fun that's what kept me playing the game if these characters are ass the entire way through the game why bother and with what they showed us immediately I'm just not going to pick it up or again I might wait for a really deep discount I'm talking sub $10.

This is the first game in the series where you can customize everyone, the whole hipster complaint doesn't matter anymore you can dress the main 3 how ever you want, with how much of a focus customization has this time around I'm sure it was planned from the beginning
The character design are so bad and generic. You got “smart nerd guy” with glasses and a fucking bow tie. You got “tough girl”that “doesn’t need no man.” You got the wild guy, no shirt and a kitty neon helmet. Then the Boss (can be customizable) with “THAT” hair. It’s sad.

Let's talk about motivation. You're allowed to not like Saints Row The Third or Saints Row 4, but all the games before this had an ongoing theme that at the very least was your motivation as a player. Survival. These games had settings that were clearly hell to traverse through to a degree. Your job was to take all that chaos and basically put it under your control. Because you had to. This? This just feels like a bunch of randoms just thinking they can take over the world because "idk, we're bored". Idk I guess that was the "Millennial power fantasy" but idk. I feel like if that was the appeal of Saints Row, it was because of the multiplayer than anything else. The story being that doesn't mean much. Might as well not have the story. Hell, I think I'd take some generic "We grew up here. This is our home. It's time to protect it." motivation over "We're taking over the city bc yolo lmao".
I'd at the very least hope that the story of them trying to get money for debt can snowball into the "oh fuck we messed with the wrong people while we're trying to get easy money, and have to survive from getting killed when we realized this isn't just a fun time" story, as they're getting used to the gang lifestyle It's a wish, but since this is a Saints origin story in a reboot, it would sound like something to happen, because the new Saints aren't gangsters right off the bat.

When they made a STAG-esque organization a "gang", with discount Burt Reynolds running it, idk how to feel but say it should've been a late-game "gang" to fight, or at least as ones you can fight after the previous three are dealt with And tone down the laser weaps
And in the CGI trailer, you already steal a bunch of their weapons from another gang, who just stole those guns from them. And there are only 3 gang as we know so they are not new Ultor.
I had a feeling this was more of a reboot of SRTT, from the Saints being a company in SRTT, to the Pantheros being Luchadores, to the terrible looking Idol guys being the Deckers, and as you mentioned. Recycled STAG as a gang, and Burt Reynolds instead of Cyrus. No Morning Star though because too sexual I bet. Eli being Pierce from SRTT.
When you said "customize the city" I got REALLY interested in the game, one of the best parts of SR3 was seeing the effects of what I was doing, and even going to the point to change the skyline of steelport with the strongholds. If they manage to add more depth to this city conquest then the game is going to be fanatstic for me

"Gangsta rap" isn't really a thing anymore, they listen to more mainstream rappers if anything. I'm not gangsta but I can tell you from seeing Snapchat stories (don't ask how I got access to them) of Liverpool and London gangs there not all just fat black people walkin round with a boom box on there shoulder in baggy clothes, that's what people wanted, but it's 2021, do you really think they do that. While they don't really wear what the new characters are wearing, they wear skinny joggers, jeans, and Nike/Adidas clothes. Plus they aren't actually gangstas, they are more like "criminal masterminds" if for a better word. Smart people who rob banks, wait for further announcements, more gameplay, more character announcements, we might see some "gangstas" mix with them and work together, essentially act as muscle.
I believe the gameplay will just be the same as saints row 3. Its not going to be new. Its just going to be more same from third person shooters. But i will wait for the gameplay
Hearing actually grounded take on what we know and what influencers know did get my expectations up a bit, but to be fair they were about as low as possible. I'm one of those guys who really liked the tone of first two games as well as their gameplay, but it's what it is. With how the third person shooters are now, there really was no way we would've gotten gameplay like SR2 again, but tonally I really hoped for more of a gangster style. Oh well. New characters still feel like absolute charisma vacuums, but if the game does actually do a story of bunch of post-grads being in way over their heads, I'd buy this in a heartbeat. Probably not gonna happen though. But yeah, the marketing for this has really been abhorrent. What a fucking way to alienate all of the existing fans.
This is just going to be AoM all over again except this time worse considering the official Saints Row social media is showing contempt towards fans who are speaking out about how this doesn't feel at all like a Saints Row game, it's an insult for Deep Silver to even call this game Saints Row and I hope that the eventually learn their lesson when the game tanks sales wise at launch.
I will never understand why a coorparation, you know, the thing literally existing to make money, would get emotional enough to blame the people theyre tryingt to sell to. I honestly thought the "new" gang was going to be a joke gang that the real gang would blow up or something in the trailer. Would have been hilarious if that was the case and would have made me hyped to buy the game. This "new" gang are the exact people that would run and hide from conflict, not try to engage in it.

I was hoping it would be something like take place sometime between saints row 2-3 somewhere on the west coast having a saints chapter trying to start out there. Not slightly futuristic with the main characters looking like the group of people who wants to set up a safe space in your local college.
I'm not hardcore Saints fan so I was pretty hyped at the trailer until the realization that those millenial stereotypes were the new saints sunk in, then I REALLY hit me.
I would have liked to see them go the route of a young Johnny Gat, Julius,Dex, Troy, and even Benjamin King to get a origin story on how they founded saints row.

I would also love to see real dual wielding (with the option to choose between that and a single one handed gun) where you fire the second gun with the Left trigger, but without the ability to zoom aim.
bruh, this looks like another watchdogs 2 situation with the story writing. Having a bunch of trendy quirky teenagers as the main cast of a story full of what is essentially domestic terrorism made zero sense then, and ESPECIALLY zero sense for a saints row game.
Their marketing sucks - that's a fact. Honestly, just like everyone else, I was expecting gangsters. Different faces, but still gangsters. That's obviously not what we got, but honestly, like Flippy said, we should give them a chance. I wish they showed more gameplay by now, but the bits that we've seen so far did sell it for me (and the hope that the characters will develop into true saints somewhere in the story) Overall, it does look like it's going to be a fun world to mess around in!

I'm remaining hopeful for this game despite how awful the marketing has been so far, especially with that dogshit CGI trailer. Let's just hope people do end up changing their minds once Volition actually decides to release proper, extended gameplay compared to what little we have right now. @@Mateus_Carvalho I heard Game Informer played a preview of it, and they really praised the gameplay. So that so far seems like a fairly good sign. But still, I do honestly hope this isn't gonna be grouped in with AoM; I love Saints Row and I'd really hate to see it get killed off if this game ends up a flop like that piece of trash.
@@KFCValueMeal I personally don't think it's gonna end up as a flop. It might take a bit longer to pick up because the PC version is gonna enjoy one-year-limbo at Epic's but it seems the gameplay is very sound. So, y'know, long-term success and all.
@@Mateus_Carvalho True, true. Funny, I used to be on the EGS hatemob for a long time, but after picking up SR3 Remastered when it was free back in September, it's actually not as bad as people think. Sure it doesn't have anywhere near the amount of features that Steam has, but then again, I mostly got it for that & also Rocket League, since a good friend of mine plays it often lmao. So I can't really complain too much. I guess I might pick up the new SR sometime after it comes out then, but I'll wait for reviews to come out.

3 things that give me hope for this game 1. Jim Butt Boone said "the tone is somewhere between SR2 and SR3" 2. On twitter the saints row account replied to someone who was asking why isnt the reboot gangster saying "It is a gang game, this is an orgins story, the characters you see become saints throughout the story, debt is just one of the reasons they get into crime" 3. The Gameplay PS: It is waayyyyy too early to say the game is bad i honestly think it'll be better than our expectations and i dont think it'll be better than SR2 but i think it could be better than all the saints row games after SR2
While companies doing new things should be ok, and their target audience isn't just SR2 fans, the "millennial gamers" aren't playing games like saint's row. The mayhem expected from the series doesn't branch far from their already gained audience, and character designs like this already doom the gameplay. It's like someone wanted the wide appeal of GTA for this script but couldn't get it.
NGL i kinda got a good chuckle at the old gate keeper SR fans going into meltdown,i wasn't in love with the CGI trailer either though mostly because i was like all this time and this is all we get. The little bit of gameplay they have shown makes me happy though,and hell i have told people the old way of SR was never gonna be the same as it was. Also i'm sorry but the combat in this looks 10x better than anything from SR1/2 having played them both recently they are clunky and a pain compared to games today,it like asking for GTA3's shooting.
I'm sorry but the core gameplay looks as generic as the characters. It's literally The Third with better graphics no cover system, and swarms of enemies, you could upgrade yourself in The Third also NOTHING new. Idk I feel like people are being overly optimistic it's been TEN years since The Third came out this all just looks outdated to me. Can you even still recruit Saints for missions? are you still capped at three?
I like that you looked at the good and the bad. Frankly yeah marketing dropped the ball and honestly I don't like the new character designs at all. But the gameplay does look good. They've released the Boss Factory and I'm not happy. In spite of all the hype and clothing options, they took away an integral part of the character creation: the sex appeal slider. We have a slider for breasts and groin size, but the former is a joke. At 100%, she's barely an A-cup! For the first time, I'm having second thoughts about buying the new Saints Row game.
Theres many plot they could have used for a fun game everyone could enjoy, you dont even need the old characters for some - Gang expansion out of Stilwater, with you as a rookie or Lt while the Boss is in another city - An actually reboot of the 1st with modern graphics and mechanics - Boss is offed and gang is taken over by an insurgence (story could work either side of the coin really) - Third street Saints go to Volition HQ and kick their asses for SR4 - Reimagining/prequal of a gangs come up origin story that isn't student loans = criminal syndicate, something actually relatable to gang culture like being tired of folks running up in your neighborhood

As soon as I saw the cinematic trailer, my thoughts were very similar. The new orange gang looks like Los Carnales and The Brotherhood combined. The crazy digital bike helmet looked like something out of Watch Dogs 2. The group of kids you’re playing as don’t seem threatening at all, but… my understanding is you’re starting from scratch and the Saints aren’t an already established group yet. I like the new city and it’s surroundings but I would love to see a return to Stilwater later in the series.
Saints Row has always been "inclusive" it makes no sense why they would need to double down on it, as if something was at threat. I'm not adverse to different people being in my game, but atleast make it make sense and not for the sake of it. I hate all of these characters, not because of their race or creed, but because they are so not Saints Row.

While it's too late for that now, they really should've been a much larger group of friends, initially, which then slowly gets smaller as rival gangs pick them off one by one. They get in way over their heads and *_it should show_* . Consequences, you know. There's only so much change a person can inherently go through; "edgy, non-binary, hipster millennials who're down on their luck" will never be able to become the type of gangsters that fans of the series are expecting. It would be dope to have layers and wear options again tho, though perhaps a mix of both while having a lot of items might be too much for Volition, so who knows.

Let's talk about motivation.
You're allowed to not like Saints Row The Third or Saints Row 4, but all the games before this had an ongoing theme that at the very least was your motivation as a player. Survival. These games had settings that were clearly hell to traverse through to a degree. Your job was to take all that chaos and basically put it under your control. Because you had to. This? This just feels like a bunch of randoms just thinking they can take over the world because "idk, we're bored".
Idk I guess that was the "Millennial power fantasy" but idk. I feel like if that was the appeal of Saints Row, it was because of the multiplayer than anything else. The story being that doesn't mean much. Might as well not have the story. Hell, I think I'd take some generic "We grew up here. This is our home. It's time to protect it." motivation over "We're taking over the city bc yolo lmao".

When you said "customize the city" I got REALLY interested in the game, one of the best parts of SR3 was seeing the effects of what I was doing, and even going to the point to change the skyline of steelport with the strongholds. If they manage to add more depth to this city conquest then the game is going to be fanatstic for me

I'm one of those guys who really liked the tone of first two games as well as their gameplay, but it's what it is. With how the third person shooters are now, there really was no way we would've gotten gameplay like SR2 again, but tonally I really hoped for more of a gangster style. Oh well.
New characters still feel like absolute charisma vacuums, but if the game does actually do a story of bunch of post-grads being in way over their heads, I'd buy this in a heartbeat. Probably not gonna happen though.
But yeah, the marketing for this has really been abhorrent. What a fucking way to alienate all of the existing fans.
This is just going to be AoM all over again except this time worse considering the official Saints Row social media is showing contempt towards fans who are speaking out about how this doesn't feel at all like a Saints Row game, it's an insult for Deep Silver to even call this game Saints Row and I hope that the eventually learn their lesson when the game tanks sales wise at launch.

I honestly thought the "new" gang was going to be a joke gang that the real gang would blow up or something in the trailer. Would have been hilarious if that was the case and would have made me hyped to buy the game. This "new" gang are the exact people that would run and hide from conflict, not try to engage in it.

I just don't see how they can fix these characters. Everything else I've sort of coped with but that just seems unredeemable. Especially after Violitions responses.
They could develop along the campaign and become "proper gangsters". However I really can't see them do that. Seems to cool and awsome to be true.

When the promise is "graphics are good but" i say no.
I was hoping it would be something like take place sometime between saints row 2-3 somewhere on the west coast having a saints chapter trying to start out there. Not slightly futuristic with the main characters looking like the group of people who wants to set up a safe space in your local college.
I'm not hardcore Saints fan so I was pretty hyped at the trailer until the realization that those millenial stereotypes were the new saints sunk in, then I REALLY hit me.
I would have liked to see them go the route of a young Johnny Gat, Julius,Dex, Troy, and even Benjamin King to get a origin story on how they founded saints row.
I would like a Saints Row Prequel Starring a Young Ben King, & Julius, but the 3rd Street Saints Didn't Exist....Yet.

Honestly, just like everyone else, I was expecting gangsters. Different faces, but still gangsters. That's obviously not what we got, but honestly, like Flippy said, we should give them a chance.
I wish they showed more gameplay by now, but the bits that we've seen so far did sell it for me (and the hope that the characters will develop into true saints somewhere in the story)
Overall, it does look like it's going to be a fun world to mess around in!

But still, I do honestly hope this isn't gonna be grouped in with AoM; I love Saints Row and I'd really hate to see it get killed off if this game ends up a flop like that piece of trash.
@@KFCValueMeal I personally don't think it's gonna end up as a flop. It might take a bit longer to pick up because the PC version is gonna enjoy one-year-limbo at Epic's but it seems the gameplay is very sound.

@@Mateus_Carvalho True, true. Funny, I used to be on the EGS hatemob for a long time, but after picking up SR3 Remastered when it was free back in September, it's actually not as bad as people think.
Sure it doesn't have anywhere near the amount of features that Steam has, but then again, I mostly got it for that & also Rocket League, since a good friend of mine plays it often lmao. So I can't really complain too much. I guess I might pick up the new SR sometime after it comes out then, but I'll wait for reviews to come out.

1. Jim Butt Boone said "the tone is somewhere between SR2 and SR3"
2. On twitter the saints row account replied to someone who was asking why isnt the reboot gangster saying "It is a gang game, this is an orgins story, the characters you see become saints throughout the story, debt is just one of the reasons they get into crime"

PS: It is waayyyyy too early to say the game is bad i honestly think it'll be better than our expectations and i dont think it'll be better than SR2 but i think it could be better than all the saints row games after SR2
While companies doing new things should be ok, and their target audience isn't just SR2 fans, the "millennial gamers" aren't playing games like saint's row. The mayhem expected from the series doesn't branch far from their already gained audience, and character designs like this already doom the gameplay. It's like someone wanted the wide appeal of GTA for this script but couldn't get it.
NGL i kinda got a good chuckle at the old gate keeper SR fans going into meltdown,i wasn't in love with the CGI trailer either though mostly because i was like all this time and this is all we get. The little bit of gameplay they have shown makes me happy though,and hell i have told people the old way of SR was never gonna be the same as it was. Also i'm sorry but the combat in this looks 10x better than anything from SR1/2 having played them both recently they are clunky and a pain compared to games today,it like asking for GTA3's shooting.
I'm sorry but the core gameplay looks as generic as the characters. It's literally The Third with better graphics no cover system, and swarms of enemies, you could upgrade yourself in The Third also NOTHING new. Idk I feel like people are being overly optimistic it's been TEN years since The Third came out this all just looks outdated to me. Can you even still recruit Saints for missions? are you still capped at three?

But the gameplay does look good. It just sucks that it's being sandwiched around rather unlikable characters.

They've released the Boss Factory and I'm not happy. In spite of all the hype and clothing options, they took away an integral part of the character creation: the sex appeal slider. We have a slider for breasts and groin size, but the former is a joke. At 100%, she's barely an A-cup! For the first time, I'm having second thoughts about buying the new Saints Row game.
I hear they're collecting some feedback on this and will see about correcting things before the game is out.

Theres many plot they could have used for a fun game everyone could enjoy, you dont even need the old characters for some
- Gang expansion out of Stilwater, with you as a rookie or Lt while the Boss is in another city
- An actually reboot of the 1st with modern graphics and mechanics
- Boss is offed and gang is taken over by an insurgence (story could work either side of the coin really)
- Third street Saints go to Volition HQ and kick their asses for SR4
- Reimagining/prequal of a gangs come up origin story that isn't student loans = criminal syndicate, something actually relatable to gang culture like being tired of folks running up in your neighborhood

As soon as I saw the cinematic trailer, my thoughts were very similar. The new orange gang looks like Los Carnales and The Brotherhood combined. The crazy digital bike helmet looked like something out of Watch Dogs 2. The group of kids you’re playing as don’t seem threatening at all, but… my understanding is you’re starting from scratch and the Saints aren’t an already established group yet. I like the new city and it’s surroundings but I would love to see a return to Stilwater later in the series.
Saints Row has always been "inclusive" it makes no sense why they would need to double down on it, as if something was at threat.
I'm not adverse to different people being in my game, but atleast make it make sense and not for the sake of it. I hate all of these characters, not because of their race or creed, but because they are so not Saints Row.

Shaundi and the boss changing personalities mid-series and Gat singing like a Disney princess wasn't exactly Saints Row either, but I think it's interesting that people who played the last 3 games are suddenly drawing a line at this. I just don't think we've seen enough of the new characters to really pass judgement at this point.
