Helen, can you sit down and do an interview with your mom and talk about the struggles of Hoisan people back in China? I think it's a story that needs to be shared. I remember you briefly went over how they were given coupons to buy stuff. Hoisan people have went through a lot and I think it's incredible how our families have made a life for themselves here in America. I'm so proud of Hoisan people.
Stumbled upon your video, I remember playing vball with you on the Women's Freemason's with Wilbert and Ho coaching. You still look the same from all those years ago. Congrats on your engagement and your new life in Cali! You mom is hilarious!
I didn't know you were toisan!! It feels super weird (but cool!) hearing youtubers speak toisan because I feel like it's not a very popular dialect. But ayyyy toisan people represent!!!
加油阿姨!希望你會跟Helen多D上鏡!我家族來自開平所以聽到台山話好有親切感! Good job auntie - hope you and Helen will appear in more videos often! My family is originally from Kaiping Village so listening to Toisanese makes me feel a sense of closeness!
So sweet and such a wholesome video!!! Your mom was not a tiger mom in the kitchen! She let you help which is so nice to see💕💕💕 Dad definitely knows his way around the kitchen!
Hi Nicole, Nothing beats a home cooked meal :-D Just stumbled upon your personal finance and investment channel. Congratulations! Good luck! Glad you are educating yourself and taking control of your own personal finances. Must be very exciting and satisfying...I too went to an expensive B-school and now work for an investment firm in Boston. Let me know if you ever have any questions...good to learn how to make Chinese style steamed fish too :-D haha
I came across your vid today and so happy to see it! Your parents are so adorable! Love that you are speaking hoisan wah in your video! I hope to see more of your mom interacting with you on your channel. Lovely family by the way! 😍
LOL awesome video Helen! Your parents are so funny and it's cool to see how they're comfortable being on camera. PS almost got blinded by that bling when the ginger and scallion were getting chopped up 💍👀😍👌
Love watching these home cooking videos! Thank you 阿姨 for teaching us how to make this iconic Chinese dish! The fish looked delicious!! I know what I’ll be making for dinner this week🥰
i thought it was so rare before to see others speak toisanese... but after reading all these comments and watching the vid... I feel like there's so much more of us!!!
Wow I didn’t know you spoke Hoisanwah! This video reminded me exactly of my house, literally down to the dish and pan you steamed the fish in lol. We also speak Hoisanwah and eat that dish at least 1x/week. Please make more Hoisanwah content! It’s somewhat of a dying dialect, so it’d be great if we cultivated more proud around being Toisanese.
my grandma and my aunts are the last to really speak toisanese...! I feel like it's dying after me and our generation... :( I def would love more content like this too!!! :)
There's such a big toisan community here LOL... just reading through all the comments I'm so happy there are alot of others that speak this dialect as well ;)
sorry to spam w/ comments, but i really enjoy how many of the cooking instructions were given in toishanese (even tho i completely depend on the subtitles bc i don't understand toishanese) bc makes me feel closer? more intimate with you in your mom? something like that.
when watching janet's tomato + egg video, i was so nervous that she'd accidentally cut herself with the knife because her fingers were always in the field of the blade. thankfully, this stress was not present while watching this video bc helen's knuckles were always the first point of contact between her non-knife-holding-hand and knife (ie her knuckles were protecting her fingertips from the blade).
Love the toisan dialect! :) most people are ashamed of it (I feel) but I’ve always been proud that I can speak it lol
same here
Who would be ashamed of our amazing language 😭
Omg please do more vids with Toisanese, we speak that at home too!
The OG home language: toishanese 👌🏼
omg!!! i know right!! my family speaks toisanese and all my friends look at me like im speaking another language when I speak it :$
Aww your parents are the cutest! Love the video! Was anyone else blinded by Helen's ring?? Phil did a an amazing job on it! Lol.
Lol, I know right? When she was picking up the fish, I was like "I'm blind!"
