Despite The Walking Dead's success, the show has faced many hardships and fallout, which can be attributed to its shady past with lawsuits. In this video, I look at all of those lawsuits closely to help understand why they have happened.

I love TWD but writing wise, I feel like AMC has *always* been the problem. I think it was rumored that they were the ones behind the decision to kill off Carl because they didn't want to pay him an adult paycheck to cut costs. If I could rewind the clock and made a decision for the series, I'd have TWD on HBO and I would have kept Frank Darabont on as the main showrunner for the series from beginning to end. It's a shame because Frank could've been the Vince Gilligan for TWD. If only things turned out differently and AMC weren't such greedy scumbags to both Kirkman and Darabont. It only makes sense now that Kirkman wasn't on as executive producer after Season 8. Which is why the quality was up and down so much ever since.
I have also stated this point everytime but now after i did some research and I don't think AMC killed Carl because they didn't wanted him to give adult paycheck , it's just stupid. There are literally giving money to hundreds of walkers and god knows how many side characters so I am pretty sure they might have given Carl's actor his adult paycheck. The thing you mentioned about HBO is that they were the one who said no to twd so thats why it's on amc.

The firing of Darabont is also the reason Jeffery DeMunn (aka. Dale) said kill me now. DeMunn and Darabont are really close friends in RL and the only reason Jeffery signed on to play Dale was because his friend asked him to.
I love Dale so much, I just wish Darabont hadent been fired by these assholes😭😭
And tbh Dale was easily top 5 characters when he was on. Him and Shane's dynamic was great

While I loved Darabont’s directing, I didn’t want walkers that can pick up rocks and climb and run for the whole show. Might as well just call them zombies or runners at that point, there’s no originality to it

I think it's a bad mindset to say "I hope AMC wins because I want to see more TWD shows" what if AMC is actually in the wrong here. If it turns out that kirkman was unjustly underpaid then we should hope for justice to take it's way. Not side with whoever is making us Shows.

I personally want Kirkman to win. I don't care if it impacts the spinoffs. AMC has had a track record of messig up with their showrunners and workers. What happened with Darabont was a disgrace, since they screwed up both him and the rest of the cast just to save money during season 2. If the future shows get cancelled, good ridance. The Walking Dead deserves to have a dignified ending, not to endlessly continue until it looses all it's audience.
Agreed. Maybe we as customers should reflect on how we treat employees and IP holders when they dare to advocate for their own fair treatment.
Totally agree the way they changed the smarter zombies then tried going back to them in season 11 they should have just left them the way Darabont created them. That and Gimple killing off Carl pretty much killed the show, I kept watching but it was never the same without Rick and Carl

It's the problem with fanboys. I love TWD, but the show shouldn't of even dragged out for 11 seasons. It defintley doesn't need 4 more spin offs to wrap up characters stories that should have up LONG AGO.
I still enjoyed all 11 seasons, but there's a reason the finale had 3 mil viewers opposed to it's peak of 17 mil. AMC doesn't nor has ever cared about the legacy of the show, just how much revenue it can generate. And half the problem is there's so 'much blind fanboys who will suck up anything that'd thrown at them, so ofc AMC will keep pumping out more and ruining the legacy of the show.
The fact that AMC settled for $200 million says a lot of the allegations Frank made were true. It seems like once AMC saw the walking dead was a hit they moved to hog up all the profits. They should hire Frank for $100 million to do one of these spin-off shows. Make TWD great again 😆
TWD could have been on the same level of storytelling brilliance as Breaking Bad had they kept Darabont on or even just kept to the original storyline.

They basically killed off Mr. GOAT Rick Grimes' entire motivation since the beginning by killing Carl, absolutely cementing Andrew Lincoln's departure in Season 9. That decision will always disappoint me. Carl wasn't the greatest character I agree, but he was one of the most IMPORTANT to the overall story.
It’s like the new Last of Us show, they can’t have it EXACTLY like the source material, that’s pointless. I’m glad Rick doesn’t have only one arm, Carol is a badass, and Daryl actually exists. I’ve read the comics and the show is honesty better, it explains and lays out the story so much better

With great success comes great problems. First Frank Darabont sued them , stunt double family sued them and now the main writer Robert Kirkman has also sued them . Amc should change their policies for greater good . At one point they only became cash grabbing company who didn't gave a fuck about his employees.
Robert Kirkman isn't the "main writer." He was the creator and sole writer of the comic. He's written a few TV episodes and was credited as an Executive Producer, but he's never been a main or major show writer.

Its crazy seeing so many TV series that started about 2010 were amazing, but management changed or something similar and we have great shows crash horribly in the end and it's always bc company's are being greedy. Screw AMC.
I like AMC, but I really want Kirkman and Darabont to win. Darabont understood the comic and treated it with respect while writing the show, and it’s one of my favorite comics so I definitely have a bias. As for the stunt double dying? I’m glad his family got reparations but no medical or any spotters? That’s negligence by definition...

as Mike Cabrera said, Frank Darabont could've become the Vince Gilligan of The Walking Dead if AMC had just given him one more chance and the budget he was asking for. It's clear he had big plans for the series, such as a webisode explaining the Tank Walker in Atlanta, and I can't help but to think that we as fans of the IP were scammed out of the perfect show because of it. But, it's in the past. The decision was made 12 years ago and we can only theorize what could have been. I hope one day Frank will write a blog post detailing his plans for the franchise, in the same way Marc Laidlaw wrote one explaining his plans for Half Life 2 Episode 3

@Chester Copperpot Breaking Bad is perfect, from beginning to end. Sopranos has some less than amazing episodes, and the ending is highly divisive. Your tastes don't make facts, Breaking Bad is just as highly rated, if not moreso, with an equally deep impact on pop culture.

Personally as a die hard fan of the comics I would prefer AMC to lose these lawsuits. They are the reason the show declined in quality and as such should be held responsible for it
I hope AMC is paying close attention to how HBO is knocking it out of the park with The Last of Us. I truly believe that many people will not be willing to support the show if they keep putting the same old formula out. TLOU is a whole separate franchise but has set the bar high for post apocalyptic zombie shows. Darabont is the only person I’d feel confident in pulling it off. It’s going to be horrible compared to what many of us zombie horror fans have been enthralled with lately.
NaughtyDog knocked it out of the park with the Last of Us. HBO is just copy pasting it into a TV show, while cutting out some details and adding to or changing others.

There would be nothing to sue over if the show wasn't successful, and it absolutely was. A large portion of the success pie involves we, the fans, embracing the show. I have been committed since day one.❤ AMC can settle with the fans by giving us good quality shows, what they have planned for the future has the potential to be awesome. Hopefully after all these legal problems they have the budget to do so.

AMC lied about Darabont. They cut his budget in half and demanded he make 7 more episodes at a low budget. He fought with them over it. Darabont was right. AMC gave him $200 million to settle. He was only suing for $280 million. They essentially waved the flag and said he was right, that they did intentionally screw him out of money. The Walking Dead only spent 2 to 3 million per episode, compared to Game of Thrones which spent 10 million per episode. They ran a cheap budget and the quality showed in later seasons. When Robert Kirkman sues AMC, you know something is seriously wrong.

Dave Erickson should join as I'm sure that this happened to him on Fear as well. The network was worried the show was starting to start off on it's own so they cancelled any creative freedom the show could have had and turned it into another generic poorly produced walking dead clone with CG sets, zombies, and flying trees.
Erickson did s great job. The first three seasons of fear were amazing. Building up to season 3 which is my 2nd favorite season of either show

I never really liked Darabont’s direction for the series. Doing 1 volume per season would have been a terrible idea. So at least we got a good show out of all the nonsense.
