      I felt the same. But it's a pretty good variety of standalone tracks.
      Would love to see "Everything in its right place", "Exit music...", "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi", "2+2=5", "Street Spirit"
      And everything else by them.

      Alex Jayne weeeelllllll....that’s a really high bar, Alex. I’ve never listened to them before....and I would say that, at first listen I would slap a whole lot of respect on them. If I had been young in the nineties, they might have been up there for me.....I think they take a bit of getting used to.....at least for an older listener like myself, but yes, complex...and great vocals and highly original style. Now I can say I’m at least familiar with them and understand why they are highly regarded.

    This quad is like a snapshot of my life. Barring their best-known debut single "Creep," "Just" was the first track of theirs that really grabbed me. I still use it to teach diminished scales. Bonnaroo 2006 is probably a reasonable mid-point in their career, and this quad takes us right up to that point with Hail To The Thief. With this collection, I'm transported to 2003. The tracks chosen showcase a nice diversity of their sound. If some are not the biggest hits in the US, they are still required reading for any Radiohead-head.

    Radiohead, the stranger element in contemporary rock music, an art/experimental band having such amount of success it's an oddity nowadays. They would have a place in the 70s when prog-rock ruled the world of popular music alongside early heavy metal, but in the late 90s/early 2000s? crafting and playing those songs? It still amazes me.
    OK Computer was a shock for me in 1997, all of a sudden I understood older people talking about the impact of Dark Side Of The Moon back in the day... to me, Radiohead are kind of a younger Pink Floyd, but not copycats, obviously, they have their own sound, it's just the way they're interested in some subjects and in sound, the way they care about sound reminds me of PF

    Significant in their time? 1990`s? They've always been significant! They had a very popular album released in 2016 - A Moon Shaped Pool. They were still touring a couple years ago. $200 tickets for a decent seat. They're so different and original, in the same way as Tool. It's hard to categorize them. Both are the best bands, ever.

    i do so enjoy seeing someone who can really dig into the meaning of a song, and radiohead is steeped in meaning, obvious and hidden. i think the closest thing to a love song they have is called 'true love waits' and it's more of a heartbreaken plead than a serenade.

    Fantastic picks, and apt notes to go with them Fransesca. You gave a solid representation of their varied styles and ability to go wherever the music takes them with no boundaries to their creativity.
    The Pyramid Song taps into something out of this world, and always destroys me.
    Great reaction STB.
    The beauty of Radiohead for me (and I got into them quite late really), is that they are so professional and unbounded by outside expectations that they never stop innovating. I would dare say the last album they made is one of their greatest masterpieces. EVERYTHING they do is significant and powerful. Nothing is repetitive or stale.
    And it must be mentioned, they are also pioneers of sharing their music in this digital landscape for free - quality human beings who put the music above any commercial obstacles or consideration.

  • @paxonearth

    I'm a musician and I still can't figure out the time signature on Pyramid Song. Somehow it all fits together in some weird way. Probably the greatest Radiohead song, IMO.

    • @snekinoke38
      @snekinoke38 3 года назад +1

      It’s actually straight 4/4 with a syncopation similar to a bossa nova. It contains small rhythmic phrases of accented beats containing 3, 3, 4, 3, 3 eighth notes. The chord progression played over the top doesn’t follow the same phrasing as far as where the chords change though, making it feel sort of disoriented and difficult to follow.

    Loved your Zeppelin and Pink Floyd reviews. Glad you found Radiohead. Zeppelin and Radiohead are my two favorite bands. Radiohead has a very differnt style. They are considered the kings of ambient sound. They are quite experimental. To get a really good understanding of the wide spectum of their sound, I would suggest you listen to Subterranean Homesick Alien, Everything in its Right Place, The National Anthem, Life in a Glass House, Sail to the Moon, A Wolf at the Door, Reckoner, Nude, Daydreaming and The Numbers. These songs provide a good representation of their sound on each of their albums from OK Computer through a Moon Shaped Pool. This miight get you interested in doing a chronological review of their catalogue. I look forward to you doing that.
