      I’ve been trying to simulate couple of uses, since it doesn’t have HDMI port, if you want to connect something different than your laptop, for example a camera by HDMI output, or anything else that can’t support power, is it still possible? Would it be with HDMi-USB-C cable, with HDMI connected to the camera, and USBC to the monitor? And I guess it would need another USBC cable in the other USBC port for power while using. Is that correct?

      @espressodisplays  18 дней назад

      @@ilkoallexandroff We have a compatibility checker on our website device for a range of devices - well worth checking out. For HDMI and other connections, we have adapter cables that may work. One of the big considerations is power - so, for cameras, it can yield mixed results based on the camera's output and feeds. It'll likely need additional power plugged in as well.

    One of the great advantages of painting on the iPad is the high refreshrate and low lag when you make a brush stroke. I think for drawing/painting for me there is no way back to a lower refreshrate, even if it’s 4K. But I would still use this monitor as a non-touch monitor without the pencil, should you make such a version available in the future.
    Anyway, I‘m very glad that such a product is around. I really like the minimalistic design and functionality. The only thing to really make it perfect for me would be an increase of the refresh rate to 120 fps to make it more attractive for digital artists to make the display more responsive (if artists are among your target group). Maybe gamers would agree - not sure.

      +1 for a non-touch version. It's adds too much cost while providing little to no value for me.

  • @jay.jarosz
    @jay.jarosz 2 месяца назад +2

    I love the specs and design of this! Just wish y'all had a cheaper non-touch version. It seems the touch functionality is causing this monitor to be 2X as expensive as the next best portable monitor on the market? The ViewSonic VX1655-4K has the same resolution and higher pixel density. And the VX1655-4K-OLED has the same color profile (DCI-P3 with 1 billion colors). But I'd prefer the Espresso's slightly bigger screen and magnetic stand if it weren't for the huge price gap.
    Here's the price comparison:
    - ViewSonic VX1655-4K: $400 USD
    - ViewSonic VX1655-4K-OLED: $500 USD
    - Espresso 17 Pro: $800 USD

    If this portable monitor had an OLED, 120HZ, 1000+ Nit display It would be the best portable monitor on the market! I hope that in the future Espresso Displays get an OLED high refresh rate display that is much brighter than the IPS displays that are currently available.

      We're always exploring ways to deliver the best portable touchscreen experience. Thanks for the comments. For 17 Pro, we wanted to create the best-performing work tool that people could take anywhere and use on the road (powered by their laptop). With a 17" size, higher refresh rates and brightness levels would drastically impact power consumption - therefore, impacting the portable qualities. It's a balance that we need to strike to power "more, anywhere".

    As I said in another video, this looks like an amazing product. The only think I would criticize is the choise of a 16.9 display. I know that it's probably cheaper, but given the high total price, 16.10 would have been a better option, especially for portrait use. 3:2 would be ideal, but I guess that would have been way too expensive at this size... Another great option could have been building miracast inside the display as an option (I know this devices focuses on Macs, which have no touch, but basically all PCs now have Miracast built in).

    • @espressodisplays
      @espressodisplays  9 месяцев назад +5

      Thanks for the detailed feedback, we think those aspect ratio's are better for numerous tasks too. Our challenge is offering the biggest screen that can still fit in your back pack, and 16x9 Is realy great for maximising screen realestate in that context! We're also keeping an eye on wireless tech as it develops, however it's worth noting our displays don't have a battery, so they won't degrade over time!

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy 9 месяцев назад

      @@espressodisplays I see your point and yes 16:9 is trade-off and definitely not a deal breaker at this size, so it's fine. Point taken about the battery, but I wonder if all devices can power it without its charging dock or a power bank... I had ordered a 18.5 portable monitor and had to return it as it required too much power for virtually any device. I guess this is better but I wonder if something like a surface go 3 can power this...Anyway, it's a great product, expensive but great, and I have been on the fence about ordering it. Unfortunately you don't deliver in my country, so I should have it delivered to someone in another country and then go and pick it... not ideal... and that's mainly what has led me to put the idea of this device in standby....

      Thanks for your note. We love hearing about how we can deliver the best possible experience. For 17 Pro, additional power is required for compatible smartphones (vs our 13" and 15" devices which can run from compatible devices).
      Samsung devices with DeX can operate with our devices while delivering full touch and desktop-like experience. The iPhone 15 (via USB-C) is a much better experience than previous models in terms of a plug-and-play multi-screen experience, but iOS does not carry its touch functions over right now. Hi espresso, I discovered your company tonight while seeking a colour accurate photo/video editing portable display. I would pair it with my Fractal Terra windows mini pc build that fits as a carry on in planes and can travel with me.
    My focus is colour accuracy but I saw in another reply you said 120hz was not chosen due to laptop power restraint which I understand. I want you to know that there is a customer base like myself who wouid pair such a display with powerful mini/mixro ITX pc builds and in some situations like an airport I think touch screen would benefit me with my micro pc. I like the concept of the foldable stand, but I wish that the concept would be extended to work with tablets, such that the stand integrate wireless charging for the top part and wireless docking, with a I/O hub at the bottom, in the back (USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet,…) that all the cables are hidden at the back.
    I would then find great to be able to dock a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra tablet, that would have integrated wireless charging/docking. A small 30W USB-C power adapter should be enough to power the foldable stand, and 10W Qi2 wireless charging should be enough to power the tablet, leaving 20W for accessories.
    Unfortunately it seems we are still quite some way to see that happening :(…. The closest to that is the Google Pixel Tab and their speaker docking station.

      @@espressodisplays Exactly. With Samsung DeX, the Espresso folding stand would be so great, as it would become somewhat of a desktop computer, with a touchscreen. I am really dreaming that Apple (or Samsung) would offer such an option with their Apple iPad Pro…
      Although integrating Qi2 wireless charging would ideally be better (as it opens the possibility to also use use other 3rd party standard Qi2 accessories), I would say that another option would be to integrate (hidden) pogo pins for USB-C data (and power) transmission (a la Google Pixel Tablet 2023), with USB-C port at the back of the folding stand and wireless Apple AirPlay 2 / Miracast / Chromecast functionality to wirelessly stream content to the display (from a smartphone or a Windows/Mac computer). Both wireless charging and wireless casting functionalities should come together.
      Furthermore using Qi2 wireless charging means that the folding stand can also be re-used during the night as a nightstand wireless charger for a smartphone or else.
      I would be very keen to brainstorm further if you should be interested. I really love the Espresso magnetic folding stand, I just think that to reach its full potential, some further improvements are needed. Would there be any email address to provide further feedback ?
