Hollywood biggest summer flop movies
#movies #tophollywood #hollywoodmovie #film #hollywod #top10 #moviereview
After several challenging years for the film industry, 2024 has seen a positive shift for major franchises at the global box office. Movies like Deadpool and Wolverine, Inside Out 2, and Alien Romulus have proven that audiences are still eager to return to theaters. However, not every release this summer has enjoyed the same level of success. While there have been notable hits, a few films from the summer of 2024 stand out as significant box office failures. This season witnessed some of the most memorable flops in recent history, including the disappointing performance of Borderlands and Kevin Costner's expensive Horizon franchise. Despite their enormous budgets, many of these films struggled to recoup their production costs. Here are 10 of the summer's most significant box office disappointments so far.
Movies including👇
10- Borderlands
9- The Exorcism
8- The Crow
7- Twisters
6- Harold And The Purple Crayon
5- If
4- Furiosa A Mad Max Saga
3- Horizon An American Saga Chapter 1
2- Fly Me To The Moon
1- The Bikeriders

Joker 2
Megalopolis
Imaginary
Argylle
Venom 3
@ Everyone: What else do you think were flops this year?
❤
Unfortunately looks like joker 2 might come on this list
❤
I've heard its horrible
It's a spiteful movie it deserved too fail also that budget was insane for it. Nothing "unfortunate" about it
There's no 'might' about that my friend. Not too sure many who saw the film will agree there's anything unfortunate about that either.
@@krakenlacken502 On the one hand, IF the movie was meant to be "You shouldn't admire this character, you sick f*cks!" like DePalma and Pacino should have done with Scarface....good for him.
But it looks like a director forced to make a sequel he didn't believe in which - you connectedt your movie to the Batman franchise and you thought there would be no sequel???????
You're crazier than Arthur Fleck.
Twisters definitely was not a flop since it made at least 20M in net profit, if we are to believe production budget estimates. Marketing departments of production companies normally inflate their publicly leaked budgets for a variety of reasons. Ghostbusters Frozen Empire should have a place on this list as it made only twice its advertised budget.
❤
It was easily the best performing movie here, but it's kind of debateable. The international audience clearly rejected the movie and that audience often plays a massive factor in how much longevity a movie has after it's theatrical run.
Maybe so. But that was a bad movie.
I was disappointed in Twisters, nearly the same storyline from Twister.
I liked it
Wait until the mega flop Snow White is released. "Weird Weird. It's Hollywood, baby."
❤
Did you see the meme I made about Mildred reacting to the poster of snow white
Rachel Zelger ruined her career before it has truly begun...wow.
Furiosa was excellent and the only one on this list that I saw and truly enjoyed.
❤
Honestly I didn't even know the other films came out. I think marketing has been an issue for some? Twisters is an amazing one.
❤
I regret watching The Exorcism in the theater.😅
❤
Too many sequels. No original ideas
❤
Twisters (2024) was a much bigger disaster than they let people believe. The domestic numbers look fine against the figures for Twister (1996), but actually when you adjust the figures for ticket price inflation you realise Twisters (2024) made about half what the original did. As for the rest of the world:
The original had Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt in, even here in the UK we knew these people in the '90s. Glen Powell I had to look up but did recognise as being in Top Gun: Maverick, Daisy Edgar-Jones... yeah, never heard of her. The poster of the original boasted it was from the producers of Jurassic Park and the director of Speed. Modern Hollywood just can't compete with the packages they built in decades past, they no longer have the type of bankable stars (in front or behind the screen) they once did.
❤
Joker 2 has entered the chat.
❤
Just because a 🎥 movie flops on its first release. Doesn't mean it will not be discovered later on, and in fact even become a future 🔮 classic !...
❤
Many a "flop" in theaters has done well financially on home video release,
I remember ppl calling the first Spider-Man movie shit when it first released, but yeah..
Hence key word “box office”. He’s not talking bout lifetime earnings or cult status 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Hence a flop smh
We didn’t get past the first 20 min with The Crow
❤
Horizon didn't deserve the the hit it got from critics. But to me I didn't see it as being for the big screen release. It should have more a mini series with more done to see the background to how these characters got there. One actor in Horizon they didn't use to his full ability, I've followed his work for years is Michael Angarano. I was annoyed how his character played out , and expected to see him as a different character.
❤
Twisters was great!!! We actually went to the movie for that one and weren’t disappointed. Borderlands.. I shut off the tv after 15 min. I really liked Romulus too! Fly me to the moon was cute, wouldn’t have paid to see it though at the movies. Blink twice was GREAT!!!
❤
I also wanted to see Alien: Romulus but I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle the gore very well.
I just think people aren't going to the movies. Furiosa and IF and The Bikeriders were really good.
❤
Twisters was pretty good
❤
I love it .
It was good.
I'd never even heard of their choice for #1.
❤
I loved The Bikeriders. Unfortunately, it never came to my theater. I had to wait and buy it on Blu-Ray.
❤
Never even heard of most of these. Nor am I interested in them.
❤
I must lead a sheltered life, the only one of these movies I even saw a commercial for was Furiosa.
❤
Yeah, there's some bad ones that were not surprising
❤
Borderlands
The Crow
Horizon
Alien: Romulus
Harold and the Purple Crayon
Unsurprising flops.
I walked out in the middle of three of these movies.
❤
I haven't seen any of these films, but I would like to point out that the history of American cinema is littered with flops that became classics. If memory serves, these would include FANTASIA, THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER, INTOLLERANCE, and THE WIZARD OF OZ. Somebody is making money off these films. It will be interesting to see what the future holds.
❤
Twisters was not a flop. Good flick, too.
❤
I wasn't expecting to like Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Twisters all that much, but I surprisingly did both.
People, we all knew that The Crow was going to flop BIG TIME and it did as did Borderlands.
❤
They remade the crow hmm
❤
If it doesn't work, consider doing "10 Most Expected or Unexpected Hits of 2024 As Of Now"
Dune: Part 2
Civil War
Alien Romulus
Inside Out 2
Despicable Me 4
Godzilla VS Kong: The New Empire
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Venom 3
The Garfield Movie
Smile 2
Thanks for the idea
@Vidskoof If you never saw "Civil War", it was written and directed by Alex Garland which asks the question: What would the US be like if a second Civil War happens?
As for the other films, IMO hardly any surprises:
Dune Part 2
Inside Out 2
Despicable Me 4
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Godzilla VS Kong: The New Empire
Smile 2
Why is Harold and the purple Crayon not Nr1?
It's not a ranking
Your list is incomplete because you forgot the movie Argylle. Which is compatible to Fly Me to the Moon on how much of a flop it is.
Honestly I think the lesson here is that Hollywood needs to stop using the same people for every movie. The audience is clearly bored of them. Only movie I've seen in the theater all year was Alien Romulus and I thought the relatively unknown cast was part of the reason the movie was so good.
❤
Average actors, not superstars. Above all, a realistic story.
Those two movies are from Apple which is probably why they chg mind about releasing Clooney/Pitt movie in theaters
I didn’t mind the Crow that much . I actually kinda liked it . I didn’t even make thru Borderlands. It was pretty terrible.
❤
Said from the start The Crow would bomb big time. I'm all for new films but there are certain films you leave untouched..... The Crow has Cult status and no Remake / Re imagining or cash grab will live up to it.....
❤
Twisters failed outside the US because the kind of weather phenomenon depicted in the film seldom occurred in other parts of the world. 😅😅😅
❤
I'm sorry if people don't like this, but I liked Harold and the magic grand and twisters. I thought they were both good movies.
❤
At one point "Harold and the Purple Crayon" was to be an animated film from Sony and writer/director Spike Jones, but Sony didn't like his ideas, so it got pulled.
Twisters was a great natural disaster film.
This critics they don’t include the fact that nowadays exist the streaming going to the movies has become too expensive for families
❤
Horizon was visually wonderful, but after watching it I was still wondering What's the Story?
❤
I thought Furiosa was cool.
❤
Me too.
Saw "Aliens: Romulus" It just retold the first movie with elements of all the other Alien movies thrown in. No fresh or original material.
Yap!
❤
Agreed.
Total flop and bad acting.Disaster in fact
Why pay when you can pirate them for free ...
❤
Bikeriders and Twisters do not belong here,I have seen far far worse than these
❤
Is this list mean to be in any kind of order?
No
Last movie I saw at the theater was Iron man 3.
❤
The amount of money a film makes is NOT directly proportional to its quality
❤
You need to look up the definition of the word "bomb."
Ok
Alien Romulus was the worst movie of 2024. The Bikeriders was actually very good. This list makes no sense.
❤
The only movie I saw was Borderlands and it wasn't good. I did not know of any of the other films.
❤
Borderlands was terrible
@@winterlongmire501 Another reason why Hollywood should stop using video games for quick cash grabs.
"Five Nights At Freddys" is the WORST movie in HISTORY. On the FRIDAY night of its opening, a TOTAL of FOUR people (4) sat through its THREE shows.
❤
@Vidskoof I work at the theater and trust me, we were LAUGHING about this.
@Vidskoof the next WORSE I'VE EVER heard of, is when "Godzilla-1985' came out. The newspaper said that on its opening weekend, that the ONLY theater that played it, averaged (4) people per show.
Five Nights At Freddy's is so LAME, that the Mngr actually pulled it from the theater after Tuesday's showing. Even on HALF-PRICE Tuesday, it still only sold ONE ticket, the ENTIRE DAY.
Scarlette Johanson is going to have a ton of bombs now that she did the Kamala Avengers BS
❤
What does ALL The Movies on this list have in common???
They ALL Have WOKE CRAP IN THEM!!!
❤
@@Vidskoof OMG!! You're The ONLY ONE Who Seen My Comment!
Exactly
What does woke crap mean? Exorcism, Borderlands, Purple Crayon? Come on. Those just looked cheap and silly. Twisters was just a ripoff of a better original. You folks and your antiwoke crusade. Just a bunch of babies who have lost their binky!!
@@garyspence2128
I don't go to the cinema anymore. Too expensive.
❤
More room for me.
Most of these movies i never saw advertised except Horizon, Twisters 2, and borderlands
❤
If was a great movie, hozizon would have been better as a mini series
❤
Joker 2 sucks! It will be Added to the list.
❤
Heard of two of them.
❤
IF was pure escapism, great fun.
❤
Fun fact about all these movies almost NO ONE asked for any of this except for Twisters or maybe IF. Not puzzling at all Twisters are unique too America a lone so no one else would get this movie. Biggest issue with all these movies are their insane budgets though
❤
It's just movies. It's not that important.
❤
Sorry to say, but I didn't even hear about half of these.
❤
Twisters was just a copy from Twister.
❤
Seriously outside of the MCU, Cabin in the Woods and that tiny part in Star Trek...is there a Chris Hemsworth film that's done well at the box office?
I love the guy. I wish they'd cast him as James Kirk instrad of Chris Pine.
But, he can seem to get anyone into a theater on his own 😢
❤
No Chris Hemsworth is a dud. Red Dawn failed, he failed to carry the Snow White franchise after Kristen Stewart got booted off for having an affair with the director. Men in Black failed. The recent Transformers cartoon movie failed. All the rest of his movies couldn't even reach the $100 million mark.
The guy should count himself lucky he's part of Hollywood's "A List" because this is a bad track record by any standards.
because people know he only trains upper body and has the legs of a underfed teenage boy . it's off putting
@@BenderDaOffenda To be fair. Hemsworth wasn't supposed to be the draw in Snow White. And that movie had more problems starting with the "Tiptoes" casting. Hollywood does understand WHY they didn't cast little people as Hobbits, right?
And since when do actresses get fired for having sex with a director? She was the opposite of "difficult to work with"....
Many of those failures had the same problem: with movie staff strikes, and after Covid ,no one could get to the movies, so Prime got together with Sky and put up their daily rentals to £15.99 (from £2.99) and purchase from £19.99. So my view was, sorry but f*ck right off. That is beyond greed. I'm sure all the others, like Apple and Netflix do similar but I don't have those.
❤
With the greatest expectations come significant disappointment.
❤
"Furiosa" was like watching Terminator Two. Terrific movie, very well done. This deserved to do really well. What happened? A lot of internet trolls decided it was a "girl boss" film, and attacked it. These are the guys who say they really like strong women who have earned their strength, like Ripley or Sarah Conner. This ignores that Ripley was always a competent, "by the book" character, who should have been leading the mission. And Sarah Conner? Already covered that. She started barely handling her life, and grew to become a real heroine.
❤
It had nothing to do with the trolls. Mad Max has just never been a franchise that drew in the crowd. Fury Road was easily the highest grossing Mad Max movie to date and that was $380 million at the box office. All prior Mad Max movies before that only had their video rental and sales recorded because they didn't even make much at the theaters.
It also probably didn't help they changed the actors and neither Anya Taylor Joy or Chris Hemsworth are a draw outside the MCU. Though I do agree about the trolls. These are the same idiots who claims they love Sarah Connor one moment then got acting like a bunch of raging crybabies because Sarah is on the poster of Terminator Dark Fate. And keep in mind, this was before any info about the movie came out. Only that Sarah, MacKenzie and Natalia was in the movie.
Also the trolls have little power in actual numbers because in the real world you can't spam vote things with your hundreds of troll accounts. These are the exact same idiots who can't get their crappy Matt Walsh and Daily Wire movie to even reach $12 million worldwide LOL.
I'm only familiar with furiosa and the crow, and regret these awful remakes.
❤
IF, I loved that movie.😊❤
❤
I tell ya, I maybe heard about 2 of those movies. The rest are all new but ALL seem very dull and boring.
❤
Horizon was very good
❤
I’ve heard about some of these movies and seen clips but that about it.
❤
Didn't see half of these. The rest were fairly awful. Nobody in entertainment has had an original idea since Yahoo Serious.
❤
I saw The Bikeriders. Extraordinarily homoerotic love triangle. Just my honest opinion.
❤
You should probably give RUclips up if this is the kind of badly thought out content is all you produce. There is so much wrong with your script and choices.
❤
Snow Woke is next
❤
@@VidskoofWell you just went on my "Never recommend" list
Snow Brown.
Well you lied about twister it was no flop ya fool
❤
all crap i agree
❤
What a garbage list. Did you even research this or is it just an opinion?
❤
Didn't See Any 2024 Box Office Bombs But I saw a selection of films I really didn't like
The Godfather Part 2
A Clockwork Orange
The Room
Zoolander
SCOOB!
Jem and The Holograms (2015)
Disaster Movie
Blueberry
My Little Pony The Movie
❤
No one wants to see a friggen WESTERN
❤
I watched all the Mad Max movies in order before watching Furiosa. It was absolutely awful! They’re all the same boring movie.
❤
Road Warrior was not a boring movie.
Now the Kevin Costner film I have not sceen. But it could still be a “ Direct Too stream film series “ released in the January-February season as people like too sit at home in the east coast and eat comfort food and watch such films. The future is digital and there is no denying that . Most movies growing up in the 80’s and 90’s most people watched at home right? So certain projects are meant for the “ Small screen “ but you can take longer too draw out the script and more characters development can be undertaken.
❤
Twisters was fun. Didn’t have any interest in the others.
❤
I did enjoy mad max and still believe in future for the series. But it might have too be taken in a different direction. I’m thinking what happens “ beyond the thunder dome “ . What happened too the kids in the city. What if max finally leaves the desert and makes his way too a dystopian city of Sydney? Perhaps he travels too a swamp filled with crocodiles. Tom hardly is kind of a shit actor . I will play max , perhaps get mell Gibson producing it . What about The warlords back story? Could be interesting? . What if max steals something from the war lord and they chase him across the desert, through a swamp and too the dystopian city full of junkyard warriors. Could work.
❤
If was great
❤
And by developing such things as the Kevin Costner film series for the small screen ( I’m
Watching this from my I phone and just finished watching “ G.I joe Dragon fire” via RUclips) you can also reach a broader audience. By doing so you still can develop movies for the big screen, but we’re talking marvel sci-fi and fantasy adventures . I’ve never sceen silence of the lambs on the big screen , but have sceen all the movies. Does that make since too you . Billy Corgan has an album he released in the 2000’s called the “ Digital embrace “ and I think this what we have too focus on . Buck Rodgers and Flash Gordon were originally short “ Serials “ similar ideas could be done In weekly 15-20 min shorts that you could stream while sitting on the “can” as everyone had a cell phone and ear buds these days. Also know as “ Can or Crapper streams “ . But too really start focusing on ☝🏻“ The Digital embrace “
Is important.
❤
