My biggest disappointment of 2024: LONGLEGS The first part follows Agent Lee Harker, flashbacks of his childhood just the appearance of Longlegs played by Nicolas Cage. I do not agree with the “Dark Knight Rule” (10 nominations for Best Picture). What if there are more than 10 deserving of a nomination? Or worse, what if there’s less than 10 “worthy” of a nomination? Should they consider “maximum of 10”? Or just return to “the best 5?”

DUNE PART 2 would be my choice as Best Picture! Everything worked perfectly, from the outstanding cast, to the director, the sound, special effects, etc. If DUNE PART 2 doesn't get a best-picture nomination, there is no justice!

What about Going My Way? Barry Fitzgerald was nominated as best actor and best supporting actor for the same role. He won for supporting actor. The next year the rules were changed so that a person was only eligible to be nominated once per role.

One thing we easily forget is that something as subjective as a movie awards like the Oscars will never be 100% fair. Anything that's judged will never be 100% fair. Just like showbiz itself. Even with rule changes, it will only reduce the unfairness of it but it will be unable to end it completely.

Excellent video! Very informative. I was also thinking about Barry Fitzgerald who was nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor for the same performance in 'Going My Way.' If I'm not mistaken the Academy changed the rules so that no one could receive multiple nominations for the same performance.

Twisters was fun. Didn’t have any interest in the others.

Only one I disagree with is McGregor, chaos is exactly what his character was. Also, for a first time actor he was far more memorable than his costars

Tatum's performance in Deadpool & Wolverine was great. His Cajun accent is dead on, and there is talk of a stand alone movie for Gambit thanks to the small amount of screen time he got in DP & W. He grew up in Mississippi, where Cajun culture is somewhat prevalent, and his character is from New Orleans. The accent is deliberately over the top, but truly authentic . IMO, he did a noteworthy job, and I would pay money to see a Gambit movie with him in the role.
