戦場アクションの名作「メタルスラッグ」の続編。 前作より使用キャラ、乗り物等の追加に加え、キャラの状態変化で操作性が変わる事や演出面等が強化された。 相変わらずの緻密なグラフィックは健在で、さらに変化に富んだステージ構成となっている。 難易度がシリーズの中でも易しめな事もあり、ライトユーザー層にも認知度を広げた名作。 全6ステージの1週エンド。
ストーリー:
モーデン元帥の大規模クーデターは鎮圧された。世界は安らぎを取り戻し、 鎮圧作戦の立役者マルコとターマにも、しばしの休息の時が訪れた･･･かに見えた。 「なぁ、マルコ。ホントに終わったのかなぁ？俺は何かひっかかるんだよなあ。」 「う～む、モーデンの顔って、エラがはってるからなあ。ああいうのは、あきらめの悪いタイプなんだよなぁ･･･。」 2人の悪い予感はピッタリ、ジャストヒット！ どうやらモーデン元帥の企画と思われる大規模な第二時クーデター計画を情報局がキャッチしたのだ。 ただちに、マルコとターマに指令が下される！ 「ターマ、今後こそモーデンの息の根を止めるぞ！」 「ちょっと、タンマ。何だ、この2人のお嬢さん方は？」 エリとフィオ、今回の作戦に新たに参加する2人の女性兵士を前に、マルコとターマは戸惑いをかくせいない。 やったねマルコ、イカスぜターマ！旅は道連れ、世は情け。 心強い(?)仲間も増えて、モーデンの影がうごめく世界を舞台に「メタルスラッグ2」の幕は、 いま開かれる！

Metal Slug 2 - Super Vehicle-001/II (c) 1998 SNK [Shin Nihon Kikaku].
The heroes of Metal Slug, Marco and Tarma, are called into action once again to take on the might of General Morden and his armies in this, the first of several sequels to the superb 1996 original. This time, however, Morden has acquired a number of powerful allies to aid him in his evil schemes, some of which are not even human. The 2 brave soldiers are called upon to deal with this threat once again, aided by members of the newly founded 'Sparrow Squad', Fio and Eri.
Metal Slug 2 improved on much of what made the first game great; featuring more enemies, larger bosses, more weapons, more vehicles, more hostages, more surprises and more humour than its illustrious predecessor. The occasional moments of slowdown that blighted the first game are still present, however.

@@chirritox Player 1 receives 100 extra bullets of H or L, and 10 of F, S, and R when picking a "Bullet" item. Player 2 receives 10 bullets for everything when doing the same.

Wow. They were not kidding about the AWFUL slowdown in MS2. It almost ruined the game when I got to try it, since it began to affect gameplay, similar to Double Dragon.
That's why Metal Slug X was made to fix the slowdown issues in MS2

You guys missed POWs at the entrance of Stage 2; the trick there was to kill the baddies without hitting the explosive barrel. You climb over the barrel and start jump shooting the right edge of the screen. I think there's 2 of them hidden there. But great run tho 👍🏼

The slowdown in 60fps?
Takuya Due to a programming error, MS2 was locked to 30fps. This emulation is like the real board.
Three years ago, some user fixed the sprite routine, naming it Metal Slug 2 Turbo. It's still a bit laggy, but not THIS laggy.
Gonzalo Torres Well, it is locked at 30fps, but that's not the problem. All of the Neo Geo Metal Slug games (and possibly all the other ones) are locked at 30fps because the programmers didn't think 1 60fps frame was sufficient time for all the processing going on, so they made the game always take 2 frames and run at 30fps to prevent the game repeatedly slowing down and speeding up between 60 and 30fps. Problem was, it couldn't even hit its 30fps target, but the way the game was programmed, rather than taking 1 extra frame to complete processing, it would always take 2, bringing the frame rate down to 15fps when it only needed to go down to 20fps.
Regardless, if the game were optimized at all, it should be able to run at a solid 30fps and likely even 60fps considering the Neo Geo used a 12MHz 68000...
