      Josiah Ames He reminds me of Thanos.
      They both seem to have a cognitive bias against humanity to the point where they think their way of life is the correct one.
      I like how Ganondorf isn’t the typical villain who does what he does just for the sake of it and instead truly believes of what he’s doing is the right thing.
      It makes for both a sympathetic and interesting character.

    The idea of Ganondorf failing so thoroughly, and wanting nothing but to take you down with him at the end with this battle makes this fight so much more intense and personal than the usual "good vs evil" cliche.
    This is about the past an d the future fighting. Ganondorf wants the future and all hope to die with him, a relic of the past.
    The idea that this isn't a battle to save the world, as it's already largely saved thanks to the King, and rather a fight for Link and Zelda's futures and very lives makes it so intense and personal.

    i find it very sad when ganondorf realizes that everything he loves is lost forever... he stars laughing maniacally and psychotically, even though hes practically screaming and crying in anguish inside... his mind litterally shattered beyond reason... hes actually relived when he gets a sword through his brain... it would have been better if there were tears running down his cheeks... its really brutal and heartbreaking...

    • @Knight41b
      @Knight41b 7 лет назад +58

      On top of that, I think he's relived because the human side of him is no longer fighting a losing battle against Demise's hatred's reincarnation the Beast/Demon Ganon. (It makes you wonder how Ganondorf could have turned out if he wasn't raised by Twinrova and turned evil? I think that Demise's hatred was dormant but was awaked by Twinrova when Ganondorf was extremely young. )

      While this is true. The ganondorf you see in wind waker is the same ganondorf from ocarina of time. In oot we learn that ganondorf was the king of thieves and that he would steal from women and children and he came to hyrule for the triforce and would do anything to get his hands on it. He is also the embodiment of demise so he must be sealed before he causes a calamitous disaster

  • @whatgsaid
    @whatgsaid 5 лет назад +174

    The juxtaposition between Ganondorf’s genuinely moving monologue to Link’s “uhhh tf old man I didn’t ask for your life story, you gonna fight me or what?” expression gets me every time. When you consider that this Ganon was defeated by the very Link who died with regrets, it hits you Ganon also has ones that hurt just as much. The Hero and the Villain were in this way not so different at the end of their lives.
    And then there’s this guy 😂

    • @Crichjo32
      @Crichjo32 5 лет назад +44

      That's really interesting and deep anaylsis. Link, Zelda and Ganon from OoT never really got a happy ending and continued on full of regrets. Link was sent back in time, never really receiving the reward he deserved and his entire life messed up. Zelda had to continue ruling over a broken Hyrule without Link by her side, and whatever she rebuilt was eventually destroyed by Ganon's return, meaning her victory was shortlived. While Ganon lost all the power he had, and whenever he gets back on top it is all stripped away from him by divine fate. By the time of TWW he has lived a long life of constantly gaining and losing power, and has had much time to reflect on all the shit he's done. He is still evil but full of regret, and is trying to take back everything he lost. But as he realizes in the end, fate will not allow him to, and he can't help but manically laugh at the cruel pranks of the gods.

    Ganondorf in this game reminds me a lot of Thanos in IW. He generally believes that what he's doing is right, he's motivated by the downfall of his homeworld and is seeking the ultimate power in order to make the world a better place in his mind. He also has an honorary code he sticks by like not killing Link and Zelda when he easily could have done.

    One of my favourite things about these final boss battles is that the cutscenes show Link actually *struggling.* He's exhausted after the fight with the puppet, he's still tired by the time he makes it up to the top, and Ganondorf beats him down easily and lifts him up by the arm like a rag doll, and he's about to collapse at the end of the battle. It really made Ganondorf feel like an actual threat and gave him more weight as the powerful final villain, in addition to all the other things they did right with his character in Wind Waker.

    Honestly one thing I love about Nintendo when it comes to fighting Ganondorf is that every time he's lost it's because of ONE SINGLE FACTOR he failed to consider or ever realize is a factor.
    In Ocarina of Time it was simply he underestimated Link, believing himself invincible thanks to the Triforce of Power.
    In Twilight Princess he didn't realize the power of the Fused Shadows was enough to shatter the barrier he set up to keep Link AWAY from him. Heck he probably didn't expect the Master Sword to protect Link from the Twilight.
    Even Breath of the Wild Ganondorf falls to this issue, he wasn't aware of the Shrine of Resurrection, as far as he knew Link was dead, then suddenly one of his Blight Ganons die, even the Yiga caught wind of Link's return before Ganondorf did.
    But here in Wind Waker it's especially obvious. He knows that even with the Triforce of Power he is vulnerable, so his first step was to weaken the Master Sword- And was aware that restoring it's power was possible. Next was to find Zelda, this he wasn't fully aware of considering Hyrule is sunk and there is no actual Kingdom in the Great Sea, nonetheless he knew what to look for and sent out his minions to find her (And despite a few misses they did find Tetra). When Link appeared he ordered the kind to be flung out into the ocean, and Link would have died if not for timely intervention, but Ganondorf wasn't too surprised when Link returned as he knew that if Link was anything like the Hero of Time, he was tenacious. Heck Valoo destroying the Forsaken Fortress was just a factor he considered an annoyance. In the end he managed to get the Triforce, and as far as he knew the only ones around were him Link and Zelda, so he relished the moment. Then the King of Hyrule shows up and steals the Triforce wish and it shatters Ganondorf.
    Heck Ganondorf practically gives up while fighting Link, he doesn't care if Link wins at this point he is gonna die anyway. He's still putting effort into the fight, but he doesn't care considering how in his fight with the Hero of Time he goes Beast Ganon in desperation.

      That's a very well written analysis! I enjoyed reading it. I noticed as well that WW Ganondorf doesn't really put his heart into his final fight with Link. For me it felt he was testing the resolve of the destined Hero. Like he wants Link to prove that a future without Hyrule is still worth fighting for.

    After watching this ending,I believe that this is the true ending to the adult time line. I didn’t really care that they found a new land to live in the later games. That didn’t make much sense to me seeing the Zelda said “Let’s go back to our ocean.”
    This timeline was pretty tragic though. Hyrule, Fi and the Master Sword are gone. Ganondorf actually had good intentions in some ways, the King is dead, and millions of people were washed away in the sea. The Zelda series can be pretty dark. I love it.

    I always feel bad for Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker Ganondorf. All they wanted was to live life and, for once, not have to worry about the endless torrent of death that the Gerudo Desert had at almost every moment. Whenever Ganon slapped Zelda into unconsciousness, I always wondered why Ganon didn't just stab her right then and there. He knew that Zelda would just keep shooting light arrows at him, so it would have made his job of killing Link a lot easier if she was not interfering. At this point, all his hopes of resurfacing the land he once knew was lost, and his intent on taking down Link and Zelda were very clear when he took out his swords... but he didn't kill Zelda when he had the chance.

You can use your grapple to get there, and you will find arrows, magic potions and hearts while being untargetable and having a clear angle to land arrows. Well, the Ganondorf fight at least. I don't think I'd rate all that much out of the Puppet Ganon fight in Wind Waker. ;)
      In terms of a finale fights, I'd probably rank Skyward Sword first, with Twilight Princess close behind.
      But Ganondorf's *character* in Wind Waker's finale stands out with his wistfulness.
      Just finished Breath of the Wild last night in a live stream, ended up talking a fair bit about the finale and the games ultimate short comings in not really having a true villain, instead being left with a more general sense of impending doom.
      It's much like Skyward Sword in that regard, but without a mouth piece like Ghirahim and then Demise himself, it does fall a little flat after such a large adventure.

      BrySkye i think they went for that on purpose, focussing completely on the simple premise of the game and characters having to deal with what happened, rather than a bunch of short term reactions we saw in something like skyward sword. and i think due to the nature of the game it works pretty well, but of course that does mean that there isn't a lot of room for character development for ganon. i mean from a gameplay perspective i really liked the first phase of the fight, but it was kind of disappointing that his giant form after that really didn't do much at all. i get why they didn't go for the sword duel with ganon having lost all his remaining humanity at this point, but a smaller scale final fight or some sort of more interactive version of what we got would have been awesome.

    At many instances, Ganondorf's honor causes him to lose this fight. For example, the fact that he sheaths his blade to punch a little girl out (if he's gonna do that, might as well behead her). Furthermore, a second example is at the beginning of the Triforce fight when he spares link as he's defenseless and is on his back in clear exhaustion. All this being said, what Ganon preached maked a lot of sense and you could argue he's not that bad and is a good guy trying to save a drowned world that used to be lush. The way he wishes to do it however, is perhaps unjustifiable.
    In conclusion, a fucking amazing game
    My favorite growing up on the CUBE

Go to those squares and look for a glowing pillar of light. Then use the grapple hook to fish up the treasure chest containing your chart/triforce shard. Rinse and repeat 3 to 8 times however many you need. And presto your done. Btw u need tingle to decipher the charts. He charges a pretty penny for it too. 398 rupees per chart. Make sure u have a big wallet to get these done.

You lose Hyrule and all those legends and tales from that land. All the base and memories of the previous games. Even the finnal goodbye, leaving the King and the Ganondorf statue, with the Master Sword on it, for behind, all that only means that Hyrule is no more.
