I studied Advertising in a dual opportunity USF provided with the Academy of Art. USF is the best place to study anything. They should know how lucky would be.

I really don't know why they didn't mention that USF is a Jesuit University like Georgetown University in Washington D.C. The Jesuits have a world-wide prestige as excellent educators and academic standards, they have been educating the children of Royalty and well-to-do families as well as Middle-Class families all over the world for centuries, and the thing that differentiates the Jesuit universities from others run by religious orders/organizations is that they accept people with different or no religious beliefs, and they respect people with different beliefs, they have a set of values they share with their students but they don't force the students to adhere to those values. My personal opinion: Excellent Universities, yes they are kind of expensive but they have programs to help good students be able to study at their universities/schools.

I attended USF and graduated in '87. I left with a little more than $4k in student debt. I was able to work my way through college, and tuition was about $5k/year. Now, its nearly $50k/year, you cannot possibly work your way through, and debt is the main element of supposed financial aid. The quality of the education has in no way improved at the same rate as the tuition. I cannot possibly recommend anyone attend my alma mater
What I would tell any high school student that doesn't come from an extremely weathly family would be to attend a far cheaper community college. Several UCs are to the TAG Program, which guarantees admission from a California CC to their campuses if you achieve certain benchmarks. Far cheaper, though not cheap, and the UCs have a higher academic profile than does USF....

      Dear Ripperduck
Thank you for your comments about the University of San Francisco. While your suggestions to attend a community college may work for some students, for many it does not work. As an experienced college counselor, I always look at the needs of each student and their family while continuing to look at the 4-year graduation rate from each school. USF’s average need-based grant to students is $30,296 annually, average merit-based aid is $18,873 annually
While I do have some students attending a community college, or taking community college classes while in high school, there are important factors that any consumer must look at. What percentage of community college students graduate within two years? Are courses impacted, causing students to take longer to graduate, am I guaranteed meetings with my advisor? California has worked to streamline the transfer from community college to four-year colleges, but the process is still cumbersome.
The bottom line is to look at each student as an individual with a goal to earn a bachelor's degree, that fits the student's goals, in four years with as little debt as possible. For some, that is starting at community college with a major and university targeted for transfer and ongoing discussions with the transfer admissions office. For other students it’s starting directly at a university/where they can engage with faculty and peers over four years and get a hefty merit or need-based aid package.
Thanks much for watching my video your thoughtful comments.
      Cheers, Kathleen
