Randomly heard New Noise at a metal night at a bar I barely frequent back in 2018. Devout listener after hearing the album through and through. Still can't believe I've missed this art after its release in '98
More famous? I think they made plenty of impact on the music industry as a whole you should look at how many different artists say that they were inspired or affected by this band.

@@ThePlatinumMatt I think he's on about how punk was once a truly spontaneous and free movement where people were free to break patterns and do whatever, and as the years passed, it became a defined shape that people used because they thought they would be free, but in reality they're just escaping to a different pattern. When it starts and you hear the riff and Dennis' first verse, you think "this is sick, that bass is incredible, but it feels like it's missing the OOMPH of previous songs on the album, like the mix isn't as punchy and loud..." Then the full mix with everything coming to the front at 0:40 happens, and you're like "oh shit there it is" And then the snare roll with Dennis' ascending scream, and finally, that riff comes back in full force with that skittering hi-hat that just brings it together at 0:46 and you're like "OH SHHHIT THERE IT FUCKIN' IS" and realize you're listening to actual masters of songwriting casually create the best first minute to a song you've ever heard. I genuinely sometimes put on this song if only to hear the first minute of it again, and then remember how dynamic it is, how it's constantly introducing new elements and ideas, and how 2:17 to 3:13 is one of my favorite progressions, and just surrender and buckle in for the whole ride.
Interesting how at 1:15 it briefly gets really rock and roll until 1:25ish. Such a creative switch up. Maybe there is a better word to use than rock and roll but have a listen.
They were (and in my opinion, still are) masters of combining musical genres, I myself am not very knowledgeable on music, but songs like "the deadly rhythm" combining the punk message of anti capitalism and the messiness of jazz sounds so good This song screams freedom, its so overly energetic its pure pleasure to listen to it, while refused are known for making a lot of punk music which doesn't sound like rock and roll, this one is the exception, as if they tried to make it as rock and roll as possible My only criticism is that i can not find anything nearly as good as this somg right here Thr album may have been named the shape of punk to come, but for me it was the shape of my punk expectations to come

@@carbonator100 It both does, and doesn't. These lads had the benefit of Fugazi's entire catalog to listen to before making this record, I think. Doesn't The Argument precede this? Anyway, there are Fugazi hints in the dynamics of the music and the vocals. The overall mix of this album is unlike any Fugazi album I know. More present bass, more range in the guitar tones. And more open-sounding, most Fugazi albums sound a bit claustrophobic.
Idk what you are on about, I love when vocals sound so dirty, it gives it a sense of realness, it feels like something that was made because someone likes music, not because someone wants money

Love how upfront the bass is in the mix

The first verse of this song is the most spine-chilling verse of all punk rock.
