- When I breed betta fish I use a 5 gallon aquarium with a already cycled sponge filter, heater, Indian almond leaves and other botanicals as well as a light on a timer. The water is heated to 80F, is dechlorinated, and aquarium salt is added. It is then allowed to "age" for a few days so a colony of microorganisms grows on the leaves as that decompose. I then add the male betta fish and give them an hour or two to become familiar with the tank before adding the female betta fish.

I bred bettas awhile ago and now my babies are about 11 weeks old. They were my personal pet bettas. I’m soon buying a new male so that I can breed again, it was super fun and I enjoy watching the babies grow up

@@peachyweachy4237 the babies? I only raised 4. I made a fatal mistake with water temperature. I sold the two girls, but I still have both boys. One is mine and the other is my friend’s. My friend’s is developing what we think is fin rot, but other than that they’re both happy and healthy :)
I so so miss having bettas & breeding them but sadly can't keep anymore though maybe only like 4 at the most for me

So your breeding tank is also your baby fry tank, correct? Where do the micro organizms in the leaves come from? Can i use dry maple leves?
How are the microorganisms introduced into the tank? Do the leaves already carry them? Or do you add them?

Do common almond tree leafs have the same effect ? Cant get any Indian almond leafs here.

I'm curious, so what makes that a candy koi male? He just looks like a Nemo to me, with some iridescence which would make him a fancy Nemo wouldn't it? I thought candy koi needed a minimum of 4 base colors to be qualified as candy koi

I considered it but I like that he is holding his marble pattern and spawning might trigger him to become fully black over time and would shorten his lifespan...so I think I might not
