He was saying they were backward and the place smelled horrible since they don't have modern plumbing just buckets. Yet when you read the 1st book Isle of the Lost, you find out the whole Descendants world is an amalgamation planet (like Battleworld in Marvel's Secret Wars) created by Beast and Fairy Godmother using her wand. So Camelot didn't even have a choice to be there, let alone a choice to become part of Auradon's empire, Beast and Fairy Godmother are tyrants and the franchise just ignores that.
In the prequel novel theres a line that says something like ' the isle was a fate worse than death, they knew that because many of the residents had been reserected to get put there' Which is a level of petty vindictiveness not usually associated with "good guys"
That pissed me off so bad because tf do you mean they resurected them??? They can just do that?????? and its just never brought up again as if thats not insane
This is my favorite "fun" fact about this series. Like they revived a bunch of dead villains just to put them on trial and banish them to an island where they had nothing else to do but fuck. My second favorite "fun" fact is that all Disney animals are relegated to "sidekicks." In the novels there's like a separate area they segregate all the talking animals to, and they're not equal to the humans. Yes, even the Lion King and Bambi characters, who are not sidekicks.
The movie series itself already felt like someone’s fanfic But being hit with the fact that Mal is the lovechild of Maleficent and Hades just makes that fanfic-y feel even stronger
I think the reason why Ben wasn't upset about Mal druging him was because his dad quite literally kept his mom prisoner before they got together, my boy doesn't know how a normal relationship starts
I’d argue that Belle chose to be imprisoned in order to free her father. Furthermore despite being a prisoner she is treated more like a guest who is forbidden from leaving rather than a prisoner. I know that she is still technically a prisoner but it’s a far different situation than what her father was in and she chose to be a prisoner.
Well the whole thing wasn't an imprisonment at all. Nobody, not even the Beast or the castle staff took the prisoner thing seriously, and there was no one guarding her room either. It was more of a promise Belle made that she'd stay with the Beast.
I really think they handled Cameron’s death respectfully in the Rise of Red. Like I doubted they were gonna acknowledge anything, and they could have very easily gone with “they’re away with the other four”, seen as no one is pictured and it’s in opening monologue only…but they didn’t. They added an emotional beat that absolutely tore me apart as someone who grew up watching Cameron Boyce. They acknowledged that even in that universe, Carlos was gone. They lingered on it just enough to understand emotionally driven motivation. And then they moved on from that beat because “the moment” as such, was over. Uma shedding tears felt so real too. It just felt far better than any way I thought Disney would handle something like this. They’re known for just recasting or ignoring, but to give a character and therefore an actor a send off like that, one only those old enough to know about Cameron Boyce would even understand, is extremely respectful. Honouring what he did for the series, and giving him a send off instead of just ignoring the issue.
The way you correctly highlight this as an anomaly has me side-eyeing Disney and their apparent penchant for forced arbitration. I'm happy this is in the movie, yet distracted by the possibility it stems from a compensatory pact.
Yes! I keep seeing people say that they were going to use his passing to get more views for the movie, but it’s one scene at the beginning that is done very tastefully I think. And China Anne McLain agreed to do the scene and you could see that she was really emotional about it. 🤍

Im supriesed how Athena didnt bring up how heavily they imply that Cinderella actually was the one that performed the prank. The queen of hearts hates her, Cinderella calls her out for overreacting to the prank. She refuses to tell her daughter what happend. Bridgette makes such a strong point about cinderella being her only friends. She sings a song about getting your hands dirty if you think you have to. The villain kids that we are told actually made me prank get frozen as soon as the open merlins magic book (which a person without an evil intention can open, aka someone like cinderella) And thanks to her being grounded she couldnt even go to thr promb to perform that prank. It felt so unsatisfying seing all the red flags and then they just never deliver.

Actually, the nickname shrimpy was mentioned in the third book and the reason for it also occurred there it points out that when Mal and Uma were kids they were friends but during a smoke bomb incident Mal fell into the water near where the barge was and almost drowned Harry and Jay rescued Mal while Uma just laughed at the whole situation. That is when Mal found a bucket of rotten shrimp tails and dumped it on Uma's head and nicknamed her shrimpy.
Now that you pointed it out, Evil Like Me happening while Maleficent had everyone frozen would've been way more fun.They could've used the frozen people as props! Such a missed oppurtunity.

The thing about Jay that confuses is me is if he’s the son of Jafar why is he acting like Aladdin it would have been cool if he was more of a conniving politician type of evil and learns to work on himself then it actually feels like he’s taking after his father. In Rise of Red, I was expecting a twist that Cinderella was the one who made the prank, even if unknowingly. Firstly because it's make sense in a narrative way to have the main character being wrong about their very first guess, secondly because a big point of the movie was how different the parents were when they were younger and the "nice good parent did something bad in the past" is a classic, thirdly because when the villains take the book it's shown that they got immediatley frozen upon opening it because the spell Merlin put was to prevent the book from falling into the wrong hand. Implying that EVEN WITHOUT RED AND CHLOE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN FROZEN. Not only that, they were able to get the book so easily because of Red and Chloe. Before the freezing I was fully expecting a "them going back in time was always meant to happen/time fixed itself" twist. Then the villain got frozen and I was like "Oh so we'll reveal that the person who pranked Bridget was one of the good guys, likely Ella, and it was like a misunderstanding but Bridget never got to realize it because she had turned to evil". And the fact they went back before the dance (which now I see you mentionning it, I understand better why the ending felt so unsatisfying) kinda pushed that narrative more, like, they go back to the present, see things haven't changed, go back in time, and at the dance they realize what truly happenned, and fix the misunderstanding/error in the past with good old communication. This movie just needed ten more minutes. At least the songs were fire

I recall someone defending the fact that "Descendants" was originally a book series before the release of "Ever After High." They mentioned that the movie and the book were released within a month of each other, which was a significant achievement. However, it seems like Disney Channel attempted to gaslight people into thinking that "Descendants" had been a book series for a longer time, probably because of Disney's influence and financial power.
Descendants wasn’t a book series, but the franchise was conceptualized before EAH was a thing. It’s common knowledge when the books released and information you can easily find. Disney cannot bury when something was released. Everyone always harps on Descendants for “copying”. In reality the only thing the franchises have in common is the fact that they’re the children of fairytale characters and that they have purple hair main characters. Of course they also have the lesson that everyone should be able to chose their own path, however, their plots are extremely different. Descendants was also blamed for the cancellation when in reality it was bc of Mattel budget cuts. Yes it was because of them losing their Disney Princess deal, but Descendants had nothing to do with the cancellation. Both franchise could’ve coexisted and as a fan of both, I would’ve loved to see it!

While both said some dumb stuff, Hades is still in the wrong here for purposefully neglecting his daughter. I am surprised that everyone is going nuts over the "Ja-laddin" lyric, yet I haven't heard anyone point out either of these lyrics.

You’ve got to read the books too, Captain Hook actually has 3 children, Gil has two brothers, Mal has a half-brother, and the movies regularly contradict the lore set up in the books in spite of the books having been written for the purpose of setting up the movies Just finished the video: so glad that you are gonna read the books because it is very clear that the author was not given the full information of the overarching plot of the stories (or that they didn’t know what the next movie was gonna be about every time she was asked to write another) and the movies would just kinda ignore the books meaning the the author had to keep scrambling to make it all make sense (like Captain Hook having three kids that were all introduced in different canons) she even tried to make the Wicked World shorts work by including Jordan, Freddy, and CJ
I am making this comment before watching: I am pretty sure the biggest Disney crossover is actually Chibiverse. The biggest cartoon crossover as a whole may be the new Chip & Dale movie. OK. K.O. is also a show that has a ton of crossovers and might qualify.
Chibiverse is the closest we’re ever gonna get to a House of Mouse reboot. Much like how Jellystone is the closest we’re gonna get to a Cartoon Network City tv show. I only wish the live action shows like The Villains of Valley View had their own shorts.
After Descendants 3, I started shipping Audrey and Uma (Umaudrey) obsessively, ironic considering I didn't care about Audrey in the 1st movie. But then Queen Leah emotionally abusing her granddaughter, Mal not getting punishment for her crimes even when called out, Audrey's fake friends abandoning her, all leading up to Audrey going down the dark path with Maleficent's staff calling to her to be it's new master, that shit was amazing and deserved better execution then it got. Uma and Audrey both have beef with Mal, they should've teamed up in the movie to get back at her. Uma would be cautious at first but ask for the kids of the Isle to be free, Audrey could easily do that and gain the support of Uma and her pirate army. Why would Audrey even care about Auradon anymore after everything they did? She could let Uma's crew have free reign as long as they acknowledge her as Queen, then they could discover the corrupt origins of Auradon by Beast and Fairy Godmother and go out to return everything to how it's supposed to be. Auradon is canonically an amalgamation planet, every kingdom was brought here against their will, it's up to Audrey and Uma to set them all free.
I love all of the Descendants movies. It has great casts and awesome music. The third and fourth one made me cry because Cameron Boyce's death was the hard part of the movies 🔥🔥🔥💖💖💖😭😭😭

They added an emotional beat that absolutely tore me apart as someone who grew up watching Cameron Boyce. They acknowledged that even in that universe, Carlos was gone. They lingered on it just enough to understand emotionally driven motivation. And then they moved on from that beat because “the moment” as such, was over. Uma shedding tears felt so real too.
It just felt far better than any way I thought Disney would handle something like this. They’re known for just recasting or ignoring, but to give a character and therefore an actor a send off like that, one only those old enough to know about Cameron Boyce would even understand, is extremely respectful. Honouring what he did for the series, and giving him a send off instead of just ignoring the issue.
The way you correctly highlight this as an anomaly has me side-eyeing Disney and their apparent penchant for forced arbitration. I'm happy this is in the movie, yet distracted by the possibility it stems from a compensatory pact.
Yes! I keep seeing people say that they were going to use his passing to get more views for the movie, but it’s one scene at the beginning that is done very tastefully I think. And China Anne McLain agreed to do the scene and you could see that she was really emotional about it. 🤍

Im supriesed how Athena didnt bring up how heavily they imply that Cinderella actually was the one that performed the prank. The queen of hearts hates her, Cinderella calls her out for overreacting to the prank. She refuses to tell her daughter what happend. Bridgette makes such a strong point about cinderella being her only friends. She sings a song about getting your hands dirty if you think you have to. The villain kids that we are told actually made me prank get frozen as soon as the open merlins magic book (which a person without an evil intention can open, aka someone like cinderella) And thanks to her being grounded she couldnt even go to thr promb to perform that prank. It felt so unsatisfying seing all the red flags and then they just never deliver.

Actually, the nickname shrimpy was mentioned in the third book and the reason for it also occurred there it points out that when Mal and Uma were kids they were friends but during a smoke bomb incident Mal fell into the water near where the barge was and almost drowned Harry and Jay rescued Mal while Uma just laughed at the whole situation. That is when Mal found a bucket of rotten shrimp tails and dumped it on Uma's head and nicknamed her shrimpy.

In Rise of Red, I was expecting a twist that Cinderella was the one who made the prank, even if unknowingly. Firstly because it's make sense in a narrative way to have the main character being wrong about their very first guess, secondly because a big point of the movie was how different the parents were when they were younger and the "nice good parent did something bad in the past" is a classic, thirdly because when the villains take the book it's shown that they got immediatley frozen upon opening it because the spell Merlin put was to prevent the book from falling into the wrong hand. Implying that EVEN WITHOUT RED AND CHLOE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN FROZEN. Not only that, they were able to get the book so easily because of Red and Chloe. Before the freezing I was fully expecting a "them going back in time was always meant to happen/time fixed itself" twist. Then the villain got frozen and I was like "Oh so we'll reveal that the person who pranked Bridget was one of the good guys, likely Ella, and it was like a misunderstanding but Bridget never got to realize it because she had turned to evil". And the fact they went back before the dance (which now I see you mentionning it, I understand better why the ending felt so unsatisfying) kinda pushed that narrative more, like, they go back to the present, see things haven't changed, go back in time, and at the dance they realize what truly happenned, and fix the misunderstanding/error in the past with good old communication. This movie just needed ten more minutes.

I recall someone defending the fact that "Descendants" was originally a book series before the release of "Ever After High." They mentioned that the movie and the book were released within a month of each other, which was a significant achievement. However, it seems like Disney Channel attempted to gaslight people into thinking that "Descendants" had been a book series for a longer time, probably because of Disney's influence and financial power.
Descendants wasn’t a book series, but the franchise was conceptualized before EAH was a thing. It’s common knowledge when the books released and information you can easily find. Disney cannot bury when something was released. Everyone always harps on Descendants for “copying”. In reality the only thing the franchises have in common is the fact that they’re the children of fairytale characters and that they have purple hair main characters. Of course they also have the lesson that everyone should be able to chose their own path, however, their plots are extremely different. Descendants was also blamed for the cancellation when in reality it was bc of Mattel budget cuts. Yes it was because of them losing their Disney Princess deal, but Descendants had nothing to do with the cancellation. Both franchise could’ve coexisted and as a fan of both, I would’ve loved to see it!

After Descendants 3, I started shipping Audrey and Uma (Umaudrey) obsessively, ironic considering I didn't care about Audrey in the 1st movie. But then Queen Leah emotionally abusing her granddaughter, Mal not getting punishment for her crimes even when called out, Audrey's fake friends abandoning her, all leading up to Audrey going down the dark path with Maleficent's staff calling to her to be it's new master, that shit was amazing and deserved better execution then it got. Uma and Audrey both have beef with Mal, they should've teamed up in the movie to get back at her. Uma would be cautious at first but ask for the kids of the Isle to be free, Audrey could easily do that and gain the support of Uma and her pirate army. Why would Audrey even care about Auradon anymore after everything they did? She could let Uma's crew have free reign as long as they acknowledge her as Queen, then they could discover the corrupt origins of Auradon by Beast and Fairy Godmother and go out to return everything to how it's supposed to be. Auradon is canonically an amalgamation planet, every kingdom was brought here against their will, it's up to Audrey and Uma to set them all free.
I love all of the Descendants movies. It has great casts and awesome music. The third and fourth one made me cry because Cameron Boyce's death was the hard part of the movies
