The western door of Moria did not stay closed that entire time. We know, for instance, that Gandalf used the western door to exit Moria during that time. Has anyone done a story on Tolkien mistake in using the word "Moria" on the western door, even though that name had not been used at the time the door was made?
Fun fact: Historically, blacksmiths did not take part in wars as a general rule. They were considered much more valuable making the weapons, tools, and armor that others used to fight the wars. Even when towns and cities were sacked, blacksmiths were often spared so they could continue to ply their trade for their new lords. This is, in part, why the last name "Smith" is so common.
What's funny is I have 7 neighbors with the surname Smith on my street and none of them are white or even related to each other. Where my Whitesmiths at?

I'm guessing he played no part whatsoever in the Kinslayings; otherwise he'd have realized he too was under the "Whatever you start for good will be turned to evil" curse.
Eh he would be rebodied in Valinor and live his second life there anyway. Unlike Feanor or some bad elves(of which there are few) elves can come back to life.

So much death and destruction because of the inability to take rejection from a romantic interest in the stories of the Fall of Gondolin and the betrayal of his relatives against Luthien and Beren. Tolkien really did write him as such a noble and likable character, which makes his manipulation and fall that much more depressing.

What's their history and cultural differences (if there are any)? Who are some of the notable people from each clan? Which clans do our favourite heroes from LOTR belong to? (Legolas, Galadriel, Celeborn, Elrond, Glorfindel etc) I hear Noldor and Sindar especially mentioned a lot in lore videos, but would love to know some further context about who they are.
Noldor are high elfs which are the normal gold armor ones u see, galadreiel, celeborn, elrond, gil galad are all noldor Sindar are grey elfs and another royal type elf like the noldor, they most famous examples are thran and legolas but legolas might be half silvian Silvian elfs are wood elfs like taurel from the hobbit moives they're the elfs of the greenwood (murkwood) ruled by sindar Then u got vanyar which are light elfs, basically the elfs who never left valinor but they did fight during the war of wrath in the first age, a part of galadreils family is vanyar which is why she has part golden hair Then u got dark elfs who are the dudes who never went to valinor and never saw the tress so u know they didn't get bathed in light = dark get it lol not really important can't think of any famous examples Sea elfs, the dudes who build the ships of elfs in valinor, their the ones who got slaughtered by feanor in the first kin slaying, oh yea feanor and his sons and descendants like celebrimbor are all noldor too

I would love to see the making of the Doors of Durin in the amazon TV show and the way that the relationship developed between these Elves and Dwarves.
I was so excited to see Celebrimbor in RoP… I personally don’t like what they did to my man… maybe it’s just because I have a mental image of a true Elven smith, who is ethereally beautiful like the elves are. They made him look like a middle school history teacher, who doesn’t know about alloys. He deserved so much better imo.

Hello my frend! Another great story. Elves in video games and Tolkien lore are my fav race of people. I soak up any lore that delves into elves. After Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War game movies, i came here to learn about Celebrimbor. Although the lore from the games is not in the LOTR books it is also good because it runs in paralele with the ore and does not come in conflict with it. The story about how Celebrimbor is captured and tortured by Sauron is presented in the games but they also add a bit more lore to flesh out a nice story. I like the way the game devs created the story and did not step on the toes of the LOTR lore while doing it.
great video man! nice lore about the doors of Durin, after Sauron is driven back they would open them once again for years... until the Balrog of Moria came, it wasnt 4000 years after...
@@NerdoftheRings maybe also Elves that wished to go to Lorien and went trough Moria... at least most of them, not the Sindar... also think Galadriel passed them after a few times... but who knoes... Its just that Durin III and the Longbeards Dwarfs lived long after the downfall of Sauron, and grew richer inside the mountain for years... so they lived there after, they would probably come in and out sometimes trough the doors... for trading or something
Celebrimbor seems to be the first in the line of Feanor that wasnt a douche. ok so yes he probably helped in the kinslaying and burning of the ships (wrong place wrong time? :)), but he was young. seems like he redeemed himself, only to befall a horrible fate (reminds me of the road warrior scene where Sauron is humoungus). loved this video, anything through the first age really helps. P.S. my girlfriend loves all your voices, especially gollum. she is now one of your video junkies as well. I came for the Gandalf, but stayed for the Celebrimbor.
Feanor's first son, Meadhros is pretty heroic and wise. He tries to convince his farther not to abandon Fingolfin and to not burn the ships, hands over the kingship to preserve unity, restraints his brothers multiple times and even unites the elves and men in the Union of Meadhros against Morgoth after Fingolfin made his desperate challenge. Tragically after the death of his closest friend, Fingon, his mental state seems to suffer and driven by the oath he leads the second and third kinslayings.
Maedhros, Maglor and Amras are all noble spirited. Amrod too, bending the story version. Also Caranthir had an usual amount of character development for a 1st Age character . Anyhow, I love the whole Fëanorian family
Can you make a video on why the elves had to leave Middle Earth to Aman after Sauron was killed? They had the power to live before they had the rings. What changed after that? The same question goes for Frodo and the others that went to Aman. Awesome video man! You're the best LOTR channel on RUclips!
Shadow of War series was incredibly well made in my opinion. They used the lore while respecting it; creating an epic story out of it that is believable and in bounds for what i believe tolkien would have respected.
Hey, I'm new on this channel and i like it very much, you do definitely a brilliant job and from day to day your content is becoming better. But as your modest viwer I have something to ask, I'd be overwhelmingly happy if you did video about history of Rohan and it's kings as I've been impressed with your videos about Eotheod and their migration to the south. Thanks in advance, hope my effort won't go waste😄
Whenever I hear “The Man Who Sold the World” I strangely think of Celebrimbor. Dude was just trying to be the best he could at his craft but ended up causing so much pain and suffering.
At this point dude, it's hard to say. They'll probably make him a trans elf lord, who betrays his people to join Sauron, and then starts making rings of power for hobbits.
Im pretty sure that he DIDNT participate in the War of Wrath....I pretty sure that "No one who lived through those times....." participated in it because Tolkien is pretty clear that...."No one who lived through those times...." participated in it. The knowledge of what happened in the War of Wrath was either handed down by stories in Aman or in myth in Lindon. Thats all. I wish all these channels would get that little fact corrected.
It’s hilarious that Rings of Power suggests Celebrimbor never thought to mix metals or work with Mithril when he created Ithildin nearly a century earlier. Sure ‘Definetly-not-Sauron’ was around Eregion at the time but it’s farcical to suggest that alloys were a new thing to him.
This is why you can’t make a second age show with out access to first age material. Celebrimbor taking part in the first Kinslaying and being Feanor’s grandsons are enormous character points completely omitted from Rings of Power.
Could you imagine how sad the Dwarves must've felt when they heard/saw the fall of Eregion and the death of Celeborn? The Gwith-i-Mirdain were great Smiths like the Dwarves and so you coukd imagine the friendship the two realms shared also ment that, when Eregion fell, the Dwarves that helped Elrond escape fought ferociously to avenge their friends...even if that's not cannon I'd like to think it is.
Happy birthday! The interview was a ton of fun and I'm glad I was able to follow it up with my regularly scheduled vid. Looking forward to having more cast/crew on livestreams in the future!
Theory/video ideas: 1. What happened to Celebrimbor after Sauron's defeat? 2. What will have happened to Sam, Frodo and Bilbo if Gollum didn’t get the ring 3. What if Radagast got the one ring 4. What if Saruman did get ring 5. What happened if Sauron won the war of the last alliance? 6. Who is Celebrimbor ( who is his family how old is he ect.) 7. What if Morgoth won in the war of wrath? Ohh i Don't know if you have made a video of this this is only ideas
mad respect for Celebrimbor, who loved Galadriel even tho she married another, enough that he made her beautiful and powerful jewelry to help her grief and sadness over Middle Earth
Dude, who’s the one person not liking this video? Blasphemy!! Lol. Love the videos on the characters not in the movies. Helps to better understand the story.
Oh Celebrimbor, perhaps the nobelest of all Feanors descendants, perhaps not as great a craftsman as his grandfather and like him his craft stolen and used for evil, nonetheless he didn't posess Feanors greed and pride, opting to give his rings to others and die protecting their location.

Who are some of the notable people from each clan? Which clans do our favourite heroes from LOTR belong to? (Legolas, Galadriel, Celeborn, Elrond, Glorfindel etc)
I hear Noldor and Sindar especially mentioned a lot in lore videos, but would love to know some further context about who they are.
This is actually on my list already, as I often have to remind myself who is who when it comes to all the elven groups! Great suggestion!
Noldor are high elfs which are the normal gold armor ones u see, galadreiel, celeborn, elrond, gil galad are all noldor
Sindar are grey elfs and another royal type elf like the noldor, they most famous examples are thran and legolas but legolas might be half silvian
Silvian elfs are wood elfs like taurel from the hobbit moives they're the elfs of the greenwood (murkwood) ruled by sindar
Then u got vanyar which are light elfs, basically the elfs who never left valinor but they did fight during the war of wrath in the first age, a part of galadreils family is vanyar which is why she has part golden hair
Then u got dark elfs who are the dudes who never went to valinor and never saw the tress so u know they didn't get bathed in light = dark get it lol not really important can't think of any famous examples
Sea elfs, the dudes who build the ships of elfs in valinor, their the ones who got slaughtered by feanor in the first kin slaying, oh yea feanor and his sons and descendants like celebrimbor are all noldor too
@@donpula6349 why did u @ me ?
When gimli comes to valinor
Celebrimbor: ohmygod dwarf!!!!
I found your channel about a week before I saw this video, and it's been BURNING in my mind about Calabrimbor (sorry for the probable misspelling) and "The Shadow of Mordor" games.
So glad you made this. Thank you. 😊
Its amazing how this video is a FAR superior and entertaining explanation of the rings of power than all of amazon's rings of power series lmao😂😂😂
Celebrimbor is one of the most tragic characters of middle earth, and one of my favorites. He was one of the greatest Smiths, second to his grandfather.
Il be 110% honest, the lore and the "why whos and whats" never really intrested me, for the longest time.
THen a few days ago i watched every lotr and hobbit movie, and i re-read the hobbit (book).
And Stumbled upon your page, i think i knocked out a metric F ton of your vids in like 2 -3 days.
Keep up the amazing work dude ! THese vids are informative and you are clear spoken so its easy to listen too even if your doing other stuff.
For me it is diferent, I have kind of been interested but always got overwhelmed by the vast Tolkien universe, making it hard to follow the names and places. So I love this videos, they are really well made. The map animations are of great help too!
You've gone down the rabbit hole now, mate. Or Hobbit hole, I guess.
Been waiting for this one, Another top notch Travels video, the way u break these down with the maps and the way you tell these stories goes VERY well together, cant wait for more of these :).
This is the lotr channel I've been hunting for! I've watched pretty much every other and your style is soooo clean, thank you so much for this content.
I humbly request a video touching on the "Shadow of" series. I'm well aware they're not canon to the books but the history is very interesting nonetheless. Cheers from Chile!
I've been binge watching all the videos over this past week and I'm so happy I found this account.
I love the setup of short videos with facts and no fluffing or unlikely theories.
I have never liked so many videos on one channel as Nerd of the Rings, absolutely love it!! I’m currently playing LotR Shadow of War on ps5 while listening to the lore and histories of LotR! 😁
This is insane! Two weeks ago this channel had 79k subs now it's up to 111k 🤟🏻 way to go nerd!
Insane is a word I have been using a lot lately to describe it! haha. It's exciting for sure. Glad people are discovering the channel - and enjoying it!
@@NerdoftheRings ya bro, you're Killin it! Keep it up
Epic! We need a Feanor, Sons of Feanor and a Mandos video.
The artwork you use in your videos is outstanding.
Agreed. There are some insanely talented artists in the Tolkien community!
@@NerdoftheRings where do you find it all?
Yes I really enjoy it too. It's a strong point in the videos for me
Fantastic as usual. I’m also digging how your stories intertwine with previous episodes.
Fantastic video, really well explained and discussed. Very ell done!
Amazing story
I love your way of storytelling along side a good visual explanation
Thank you
We want to see the travels of Glorfindel next!
Tolkien is ridiculously creative.
The talentless will always mock talented, directly or indirectly and you just did.
You could just easily say vastly creative or just creative but you want to feel accomplished yourself so you add mockery to your praise.
@@reianvase6683🤡🤡🤡
Absolutely stellar content, mate. I'm gutted I haven't found your channel till this week. I'm definitely going for Wizard on the Patreon when I get my salery. I've genuinely never been more excited about a youtube channel. Excellent job!
Thanks so much! I’m glad you found the channel. On the bright side, now you have a good backlog of videos to make your way through! 😂
@@NerdoftheRings True! Seen most of it already, and loved every minute of it I might add. Looking forward to your future videos!
Congrats on the 100k subs, NotR! Well desereved and your work just keeps getting better and better! 🙏🙂
Thanks so much! :)
I like the way the game devs created the story and did not step on the toes of the LOTR lore while doing it.
great video man! nice lore
about the doors of Durin, after Sauron is driven back they would open them once again for years... until the Balrog of Moria came, it wasnt 4000 years after...
Fair point. I should have specified - they wouldn't be opened from the outside until 4000 years later. Gandalf also exits them at one point
Great video. Slowly I am understanding Tolkien's world.Thank you.
Beautiful story telling, once again!
Can you make a video on why the elves had to leave Middle Earth to Aman after Sauron was killed? They had the power to live before they had the rings. What changed after that? The same question goes for Frodo and the others that went to Aman. Awesome video man! You're the best LOTR channel on RUclips!
Thanks so much! That is an interesting topic and one I'm sure I will be covering in the future. Thanks for the recommendation and for watching!
Love how you put Rog of the Hammer of wrath when speaking about Celebrimbor's last stand
Shadow of War series was incredibly well made in my opinion. They used the lore while respecting it; creating an epic story out of it that is believable and in bounds for what i believe tolkien would have respected.
Happy you made it to 100 thousand subscribers. Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks so much! It has been a really fun ride and I'm excited to see what the future holds!
I really love your videos bro the quality is amazing!!!!
Thanks so much!
Celebrimbor looks epic especial in the shadow of mordor flashbacks.
Very true.
You do realize the games deviate from the books? Especially how the rings revolve around the characters. In other words, non-canon?
@@planetkc I know, but still he looks cool

@@ewilson9650 Shadow of Mordor games are heretical trash.
Another fantastic video, man. Thanks you so much for this content.
I totally searched for this video on you channel 2days ago, nice to see it now
Hey, I'm new on this channel and i like it very much, you do definitely a brilliant job and from day to day your content is becoming better. But as your modest viwer I have something to ask, I'd be overwhelmingly happy if you did video about history of Rohan and it's kings as I've been impressed with your videos about Eotheod and their migration to the south. Thanks in advance, hope my effort won't go waste😄
Ha! You read so well! Especially Bilbo and smaug's conversation
This has been an awesome history lesson. I'm here watching this while wrapping gifts lol
Whenever I hear “The Man Who Sold the World” I strangely think of Celebrimbor. Dude was just trying to be the best he could at his craft but ended up causing so much pain and suffering.
Fantastic video! One of the best Middle Earth videos I’ve watched.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
really i like your videos nice explain Nerd of the rings your channel so important 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Such a great video! I really hope they do him and Gil Galad justice in the Amazon show.
Thanks! I hope so too. He definitely has potential to be a stand-out character on the show.
At this point dude, it's hard to say. They'll probably make him a trans elf lord, who betrays his people to join Sauron, and then starts making rings of power for hobbits.
@@marcofdelos I don’t know how people can be exited for an other “brand’s” butchering. Of course it’s gonna be a horrible gender/race turd.
This is some amazingly well done videos!
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying the channel!
Thank you for this!!! I'm a huge fan and you're visuals and addition of the map and pics of the characters make this world even more alive.
Celebrimbor literally wrote spells in Mithril on the dwarf doors
That's not what happens at all. LMFAOO you grifters just lie about everything. Rewatch the scene numby
This is why you can’t make a second age show with out access to first age material. Celebrimbor taking part in the first Kinslaying and being Feanor’s grandsons are enormous character points completely omitted from Rings of Power.
I just discovered this channel I am going to binge for sure.
*In Gollum Voice* BRIGHT MASTER!!!
Imagine when he gets big and no more likes our comments. Already feel antiquated. And honored.)
It is not this day! :)
Okay, I've seen enough. This is the subscription - and a well earned one! Greetings from Germany and thanks so much! :)
@Nerd of the rings first a live interview whit Jed Brophy and then this video.. you sure know how to make my birthday :) :) :)
Happy birthday! The interview was a ton of fun and I'm glad I was able to follow it up with my regularly scheduled vid. Looking forward to having more cast/crew on livestreams in the future!
Thank u so mutch. I would Love to hear James Nesbitt. Just Love bofur
This is a awesome channel. Great job
Another great video!
Hi! My name is Scott and I'm a LOTR nerd! Just subbed. Thank you!
Thanks for subscribing Scott! Glad you found the channel!
Theory/video ideas:
1. What happened to Celebrimbor after Sauron's defeat?
2. What will have happened to Sam, Frodo and Bilbo if Gollum didn’t get the ring
3. What if Radagast got the one ring
4. What if Saruman did get ring
5. What happened if Sauron won the war of the last alliance?
6. Who is Celebrimbor ( who is his family how old is he ect.)
7. What if Morgoth won in the war of wrath?
Ohh i Don't know if you have made a video of this this is only ideas
Can you talk about the story of Shadow of Mordor / Shadow of War video games? It's not canon, but it can be interesting.
Great background video. I will have a lot of work to watch all of them🙂
Very well done... Thankyou Sir!!! 😀❤
mad respect for Celebrimbor, who loved Galadriel even tho she married another, enough that he made her beautiful and powerful jewelry to help her grief and sadness over Middle Earth
Dude, who’s the one person not liking this video? Blasphemy!! Lol. Love the videos on the characters not in the movies. Helps to better understand the story.
Its probably Talion. Dude's probably still salty about being left to die on a bridge.
In the body of elf or man, you are unchanged Celebrimbor!
This is the most interesting facts I enjoyed 👌, can't wait to see more of this.
I really love your videos. Keep it up!
> Gets a spike through his ass and used as a banner
> Used by a video game company to murder the lore
Truly unlucky chap.
He truly deserved better 😢 One of my favorite Fëanorians ❤️🔥
Music at 12:30 ? its awesome!! another great video btw
How Amazon chose not to do this story the way it happened is stupid, what a mess they created
