I think this is from 1984 when Jesse had three matches with hulk Hogan and this is one of them because Jesse continued until September 1984 and retired from ring due to blood clot to his lungs and returned in December 1985 teaming with Macho man Randy savage and later in first summerslam 1988 he was a guest referee and then joined with Vince McMahon on commentary.
A very rare match to see. Jesse had medical issues and quit wrestling not long after this. Him and Hogan were supposed to have a bunch of matches in multiple cities, but Jesse had some serious issues at the time, so Big John Studd took his place on the cards. Jesse Ventura of course came back, and went on become one of the best commentators of all time.
The WWE got a good look at Jesse's in-ring work and switched him over to commentary. Jesse just couldn't work a singles match. Even the AWA, he was normally protected by putting him in tag matches with a good worker and confining him to power spots. A jesse Ventura singles match was usually 8 minutes of stalling and two minutes of his opponent carrying him in the ring.
@@Jim-Tuner you made jess sound like the ultimate warrior. unlike warrior who was just a flake, jess had lung problems from inhaling agent orange in the vietnam war.

If Verne would have just put the strap on Hogan, and protected his territory, nearly the whole AWA broke camp for the comical WWF. AWA was better, I lived in Milwaukee, saw many great matches!
Yes! I had just got into wrestling around this time as a kid, it was the reason I started working out and training; these guys were larger than life to me!!!
While this match isn't all that good, I don't think that younger people realize how uncommon video camera were at this time - it's good that it was captured on film.
These two had a routine back in their AWA days where they would take turns trying to break each others arm by snapping it over the top rope. When Hulk would get his arm snapped he would slump and rub it. When Jessie got his arm snapped he would fly through the air, dance on his tip toes, and land on his back, and start begging. Jessie was simply so much superior in his in-ring work that the hulk. Jessie could sell with the best of them. The only reason this feud worked between these two behemoths with such limited move sets, was because of Jessie's coordination and ring knowledge.
Jesse would have got a heavy sanction from the Federation for viciously punching the referee in the face, and powerslamming him to the mat. Hopefully Jack Tunney did something about that act.
Jack Tunney had no moral fiber, letting Mean Gene interfere like that and Hogan getting away with it. And crooked ref work, to boot. Nay, Jack Tunney was an egg sucking dog.
This is a early match of Hulk Hogan in WWF and I think somebody recorded this from the audience. There was a match between Hulk Hogan and tedibiase in 1989 where tedibiase put Hulk Hogan to sleep and he was helpless and Jake Roberts came to rescue Hulk Hogan.
That's Big Chick Huntsberry. Bodyguard for a number of stars, but would eventually work exclusively for Prince. He was also close pals with Ventura and some of the other wrestlers.
Oh wow. Hogan was taller than Jesse. I always figured that Hogan was actually six foot five but watching this I have my doubts. Jesse was six foot five and Hogan is noticeably taller, although not by much. I thought they never wrestled each other until just now, and I figured it was because Hogan didn't want people to know that he wasn't actually six foot seven. I think that was wrong. Hogan really was six foot seven. Damn.

They often say Hogan borrowed his gimmick from Billy Graham but Jesse borrowed it even more. He even has the same body motion and everything, when he gets hit, when he walks around, taunts the crowd, it's almost the exact same thing. Personally I don't see anything wrong about it, and nor did Billy Graham himself, as stated in an interview.
Absolutely correct! There is always more interest and more money in the baby face chasing the heel. Jessie would have been an excellent champion, always selling and always making the face look good with his cowardly actions.
Most of their matches ended in Ventura getting DQ'd /counted out and retreating to the locker room. Funny thing is, in years to come, every time Hulk Hogan won his match at WrestleMania, he would bitterly comment the exact same thing: "This makes me sick. Hulkamania makes me sick! Almost makes me feel like jumping back in there and taking that guy out" LOL yeah sure you didn't do that too well before... right Jess??
Man, it's terrible when the faces just do heel shit and everyone eats it up and loves them for it. Hogan offering his hand and kicking poor Jesse in the guts like that. It's too bad that Jesse was overshadowed as a heel by Piper in the WWF. I think Piper was the greatest heel of all time but I can make a case for Larry Zbyszko sp? Or Tully Blanchard.
