I recently got one of these as they are now available in the US. Easily one of the best things ever. It's been around since forever in Europe and Asia is my understanding, and so is totally perfected. I don't know how to cook, and it's just me... this is fantastic and I'm not wasting any food items. Probably my favorite thing is making my own bread, but being able to make curries and dhaals and so on is terrific. You mentioned the egg cooker... it hard boils them perfectly.

There was once a metal varoma many years ago (my TM31 had one) but it got too hot. Here's what they say on the Thermomix spec about the type of plastic. Do you have any suggestions on what could be used instead? I can pass on any suggestions but I can't think of another material myself that would work - wood would degrade, metal is too hot for a handle or aroma, it might work for the simmering basket...
All materials that come into contact with food are carefully selected and comply with current legal regulations. Chemical-analytical tests are regularly carried out by independent institutes, and changes in legal regulations and new developments in material science are closely monitored so that we can react directly to new scientific findings, and optimise the performance of the Thermomix by modifying the materials if necessary.
None of the materials in the Thermomix® TM5 and TM6 that come into contact with food contain plasticizers, bisphenol A (BPA) or bisphenol S (BPS).
