I actually cried during this. It really captures the impact Pearl has on everyone, even though she doesn't realize it.
I'm glad she didn't turn out to just be a jealous Pearl, instead she had reason to be. She had what others didn't...
But now, now she's sharing it... She realises, she still has what others don't, she is HER, and she isn't Pink's Pearl, or Rose's Pearl (even if she wants to be), she is HERSELF, and that is a wonderful thing.
Steven Universe is my favourite show when it comes to character development, and real life comparison.

I'm gonna say this again---this show did Rose Quartz a disservice by showing her character development backwards. We're having to deal with her long-ago sins like they're recent, just like Steven, and from HIS perspective that's genius---but it's also preventing us from seeing her as a whole, and realizing she grew out of her selfish and abusive nature.
Really hope future episodes would focus more on pink diamond and her development/growing out of her past selfish/childish phase in detail tbh haha

Great Food Every single person I know that likes the diamonds haven’t forgotten that they started the cluster. Let me just say, pink diamond caused spinel BPD. So technically, she abused spinel. She abandoned her for 6,000 years, which can be seen as neglect. You could even say it’s worst than neglect. I get why people don’t want to forgive the diamonds, they were abusive, but you’ve got to remember that they never knew that they were doing it. They wanted her to be perfect, for the sake of the perfect empire. If anything, the real villain is White. Yellow and Blue felt pressured by her to be perfect, and that they needed Pink to be like them. Both diamonds clearly loved Pink, just showed it in different ways. Both diamonds also tried to be better in drastic ways.

Her mistreatments were literally a mirror of how other diamonds abused PD.
Rose’s story was told in backwards order. After the movie, everyone hated her. But see, that’s where she BEGAN. As a Diamond. This all happened AFTER she abandoned Spinel. She became good.

Rose cared for both, the earth and the gems.
Not really. She disregarded Pearl and made her suffer for years, she bubbled bismuth without telling anyone, she didn't try everything she didn't just stop. Instead she caused so much. The diamonds suffered as well! She only left Steven behind who had to fix everything.
I mean the diamonds where a fascist so idk why she was a terrible person leaving them. They caused more pain to every single gems life and even rose's. The good thing rose did at least was to see what they were doing was wrong and try to stop them from colonizing the earth by any means necessary. She had her flaws and terrible decisions but i think people have to start realizing almost all characters have flaws in this show.

She bubbled bismuth because if you are a kind person then you don’t want other people to be sad or mad if they realize what happened. She didn’t know what happened to the diamonds, she said that “blue and yellow don’t care” so she thought that it wouldn’t effect them, and she didn’t think Steven was going to have to deal with her problems. Honestly people are always putting all the blame on rose or pink when she tried to save life but blue,yellow,and white destroyed it.
The Crystal Gems followed Pearl, sure Garnet gave a huge spark, but it was Pearl who saw the worth before anyone else. She brought Pink to Earth and showed her the features of the planet. It was a gorgeous episode, and Pearl was the true founder of the movement. She's way more than just a Pearl, she is THE Pearl of perfection. She brought up every idea. She created Rose Quartz, was first to think and imagine freely and admit that, and even tried to FUSE knowing it wasn't allowed. 😁😁😁 Everybody, I present the real leader of the Crystal Gems, Pearl!

Puella Porrim beautiful! Beautifully worded, beautifully written. This reply is absolutely breathtaking! And I agree whole heartedly. The reason everyone hates her is because her story was told backwards. Not to mention there was a whole episode dedicated to the fact that Rose wanted to have Steven because she wanted to have a child, she wanted to experience seeing Steven grow. Even if she didn't technically see him. We keep forgetting how Rose changed, we keep forgetting the good things Rose did and said because her character is clouded by her crappy past. Of course, Rose isn't perfect, in fact, some of the things she did were flat out morally wrong. But she grew from those mistakes that she made. Even if she never had the chance to fix them while she was still alive. If she even tried to apologize to spinel she probably wouldn't be able to because she wouldn't be able to turn back into pink diamond, spinel might've not believed her. And Rose might've also been afraid she would've been shattered during the war, hence why she didn't go back to her when she had the chance.

Rebecca said specifically that Rose wasn't good, she never was ment to be. And Rose wasn't. Rose was young, forced to mature very quickly after a life of being under the diamonds and being childish. She had to make a decision to save her planet. She had to make a bunch of decisions she probably didn't like. No one is perfect, absolutely no one is a saint, or 100% good. Everyone has their breaking points, and that's okay, it's okay to feel that way. We are only human, and while rose isn't human the concept stays. Heck, with Steven Universe future
It's even showing that even Steven has breaking points, and that's okay
What's not okay is his dislike for his mother
As long as he continues to not like her or want to be like her he is only making everything worse. He needs to accept her past, and accept who she was before she died
As for the whole "Rose led on pearl" she really didn't. At no point in any of the flashbacks did i see any for of flirtation. She tried to encourage pearl to be herself...pearl never did, her priority and her heart always belonged to her diamond, and that's the opposite of what Rose wanted, so she tried distancing herself, even kept secrets from pearl. Rose wanted pearl to be independent, and in the end, pearl only did after rose was gone. Another reason Rose knew Steven could help bring everyone together and set everyone free. She didn't want to set her problems on Steven, but she did know he was the answer to hope, peace between gems and humans, setting pearl free, and maybe even restoring her family
At one point pearl had no imagination... now she imagines every worse case scenario as our anxious little bird mom.
I actually am always still on Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz’ side. I’ve always been on her side, I never attacked her. She did what she had to, she left spinel because she was getting more serious, it was her first colony. And when she decided to explore earth, she didn’t want the colony anymore because there was life, and she cared about them. So she decided to fake her shattering to get away from them, from everything, she wanted to rebel and save the earth, she wanted to save the gems who were always in this program, this pattern, it was terrible. For gems who were slightly different to be called out, made fun of, and imprisoned, it was horrible.

To answer the question "Why did she left Spinel for thousands of years?"
1- She didn't want to be her friend anymore.
She got annoyed of her as any normal human being.
If you don't like to stay with a person anymore, you just break up with him/her.
2- I've been thinking.. If she would've brought Spinel to Earth, Spinel could've gotten corrupted/shattered because of the war.

EternalGaming she needed to be mature. She didn’t know what earth’s beauty was like then, she wanted this for years and didn’t want spinel to disrupt it as it was important to her. If she did bring her along, spinel would not have survived at all.
She also couldn't of brought spinel, due to it blowing her cover as not actually being a rose quartz, and I believe that pink probably hated that she had to leave some things behind, especially spinel, but she had no other choice if she wanted to fight for what she believed in.

What's so cute is Pearl loved her not because of what Pink diamond was, but who she was. Her saying "I'm not yours, but I make you so happy anyways" shows that even if she wasn't Pink Diamond, she'd still love and follow her.
Maybe it started out as simple alliegance to the diamonds, but Pearl truly loved her for the person she was.

Pink Diamond really sucked for dragging everyone around on her own selfish pursuits but to be honest, she is the most interesting and most fleshed out of all the characters and we never even see her in real time. I actually really like her character because of how much deeper she is. She does love her gems and she did love the earth and she was the reason gems were able to be free. For a lot of shows, the deceased parent is ever really only shown in this gentle light where they were selfless and generous but this shows that even heroes aren’t great people.
This show is literally about change and trying to understand others. Pink was horrible, but we shouldn’t hate on her because she, like Steven, has the ability to change, and she did. She literally gave up her life so Steven could exist.

People keep saying, "oh but if shes so nice then why did she leave spinel alone" you do realize that if she went to go get spinel she would basically be revealing that she was pink diamond right? She wanted to live as rose quartz with the crystal gems, so she had to leave all her attachments as pink diamond, thats why she told pearl to never speak of it, dont assume she didnt feel bad about it, she probably felt like a horrible person every day, in her song love like you, she says"i always though i might be bad..." so she always knew that she was a bad person, shes not an emotionless leader who only cares about herself, she changed, she became in essence became human.
She felt like a human, made mistakes like a human, loved like a human, and died so that steven could exist, in essence dieing like a human mother.
Tldr dude rose isnt a bad person, just a naturally flawed one who made a lot more mistake then she probably should have.

I love how complex and deep each character from Steven Universe is. Pink Diamond has a sympathetic angle to all the awful things she ended up doing and it makes your head spin with conflicting emotions on hating her as well as feeling bad for her (same goes for Pearl) They both did things out of desperation with wanting to feel good, happy and connected with what they believe is important. Pink Diamond and Pearl are both selfish and selfless and that's so human. I love this show 💖 Good chill vibes video!

God, this makes me emotional... I don't really like SU as much as I used to now, but no matter how it changes it will always be the show that played the biggest part in me realizing my sexuality, in normalizing these things for me. It showed the lives of diverse characters in such a casual and normal way, and had surprising depth and understanding towards the complexities of emotions and change, and it just... it makes me nostalgic. It helped me so much, in many things, and for that I will forever be grateful.
First pearl showed pink to shapeshift into rose and started all this
then garnet made her fight for all the gems gave her rebellion a bigger purpose
and bismuth gave her the idea to (fake)shatter pink and live as rose
All the crystal gems gave her the idea of her growth and changes
This is why pink's growth is one of my favorite things in this show

That she was disregarding Pearl's feelings on the situation and imposing an unbearable weight of secrecy on the person who loved her the most. In a literal sense, compelling her to keep her secrets even after her own passing. I'm so impressed with the writing on this show. Your video was beautifully done and put together. Can people realize that spinel is just a pearl recolor to make pink look like satan incarnate? Steven Universe is forcing pink diamond to be the scapegoat for everyone's problems and responsibilities, even the diamonds. Think about it; the movie was REALLY trying to push the whole "diamonds=doting mothers" idea and spinels backstory was the perfect way to distract from their misdeeds. I like spinel, and I'm not justifying pinks actions but she actively tries to be a better person, unlike the other diamonds. The crewniverse is just so dead set on making everyone hate on pink now
Sadly, Spinel's character is just a lame retread of Pearl's and her role in canon feels so forced

I feel like the good place handled the concept of a bad person becoming a good or at least better person than this, bec yes the characters there have flaws but they recognize and try to change, like Pink did. But instead every arc is “here’s how much worse Pink was when she was basically mentally a child plz ignore all the lives she saved and good she did and look at this 1 crying gem”
I’m wondering if pink insisted on pink pearl (volleyball) not being rejuvenated, because she couldn’t stand all the memories they made together being wiped away. That’s why white just took control of volleyball and swapped pearls with pink. Pink pearl was the first sign for pink to change.
