    I started playing FEH with the Engage Brodia banner last year as 100% f2p. After 2 months, I reached Vault in AR with a level 3 defense structure. I can confirm that every person that matched my defense got an omni +8. Thankfully I managed to never fall out of Vault, and even managed 2 gold chairs with a level 4 defense structure and no offense mythic merges. For whatever reason though, the level of your offense structure doesn't matter - it only matters whether or not you have the bonus structure. Like I still have a level 3 offense structure because there is no reason to upgrade it.
    The sacred coins for getting seals are definitely the biggest pain point. Even now after 8 months of playing there are still very crucial seals that I am missing. FEH does offer the starter bundle for $3.99 which includes 1200 coins. Of course as f2p I haven't bought it, so my only option is getting the extra coins from the Celestial Stone shop.
    The complexity creep is definitely real, but as a new player just the core mechanics of the game can also take a bit to get used to. Trying to understand how enemies are getting extra movement or warping is honestly a nightmare. I've seen it suggested a few times, and I wouldn't be opposed to the "danger area" button also showing all potential extra movement that enemies would get after start of turn effects kick in on enemy phase. Of course I'd keep it disabled in PvP modes, but something like that would go a long way in helping new players understand what is happening.

    It's worth playing if you're a Fire Emblem fan. But if you're a meta slave, probably not. I've never even thought about quitting FEH because I play it to build my favorites and I don't really care all that much about taking competitive modes seriously. They're just fun things to do on the side.

    I always appreciate the perspective of new players as well as the veterans. I personally started playing FEH in 2020, joined the FE fandom via 3 houses. Its been a hell of a ride these past 4 years, but man. This game has completely morphed drastically over the years and not for the better, unfortunately. Power creep is insane. I used to be able to invest into a fresh favorite from a new banner, and have that unit be viable for at least 7 to 9 months before they would start to fall off. But now, they are being power crept literally a month later, if I'm lucky. Hope things improve but, at this point, I'm just here for faves and calling it a day. Appreciate this tacho cast vid, much thanks 👍🏻

      Favorites > Meta but this game has a core problem in its score system. Also I don't know why they're over complicating stuff. Like the weapon triangle and some bonuses make sense but in their quest for trying to make units unique they're just making other units pointless to summon for.

  • @krislee3155
    @krislee3155 21 день назад +6

    I've been playing since launch, been through all the metas and changes throughout Feh's life cycle. I won't go too in-depth because if I did, my comment would be a mile long. Just look at my comment on Dragonflowers under Oblivionknight's video over the Feh channel, but in my opinion, Feh needs to change their approach on these things to make the game better for both newcomers and veterans.
    - Make skills more accessible, either on multiple units or at least give the tier 3 versions to new 3-4 stars.
    - Add more non PvP modes that are actually fun and require player input.
    - Give F2P units personal weapons always. At this point, I don't see a reason why we should get F2P units without one.
    - Make resources like Dragonflowers and Florets more accessible and easier to get, especially if you're going to keep increasing the cap.
    - Thin out the summoning pool because it's actually becoming so bloated that it's hard to get 3-4 star characters.

      An addendum to the PVE modes: stop making modes where you just have to either "grind a whole bunch of matches" or "play, then wait exactly this many hours for something to refresh" for some basic rewards.

    I'm a relatively new player as well, I started right at the start of book V and I'm happy that I did because I think that was the sweet spot before units started to be really complex starting with Fallen Edelgard, aside from that I do remember learning a LOT about the game as a new player for at least 2 or 3 month: which units were new or good, how the AR score system even works, that game in particular is too daunting for new players to understand, arena scoring, etc, etc, learning by experience is a must, my very first account lasted for about a 2 months and it was a painful to learn DEphraim wasn't that good of an unit and very hard to merge up aside from the Hero Fest, a ton of units were basically worthless and since most of the information on the internet was outdated I didn't had a way to know either what was good and what was bad.
    So once I learned the basics, I started a new account in February of 2021, taking advantage of the Legendary Claude debut banner... I got him to +9 or something alongside LLeif+6 and Mila+9, and I was happy, but then it hit me: I had no other currency: no feathers, no grials, no aether stones, no nothing! it was painful to start from scratch, so... eventually I made a second account just in case if I had to start all over again, which was possible because I was a newbie still, I didn't have to suffer this ever again and glad I did, cuz eventually I made the switch in march of 2022 which is the account I hold dear to this day.
    I can confirm the AR fortress problem is still there for new players: but only in defense, in offense the game basically increases your fortress level artificially so you don't fight in a uphill battle, at least until you reach VoH, once there I think the game remove this benefit from you so you have to upgrade your offensive fortress for real this time, but I'm not 100% positive on this one.
    In summary, I do agree with Enemii and Tacho here, there's not much for new players here just build your favorites and don't take it too seriously, as a F2P tryhard player myself I used to believe this game was amazing in the resource management aspect, but recent changes like the fehpass spark and the mythic and legendary bonus recent changes really destroyed this aspect as well so I can't recommend this game anymore which is sad, but it is what it is.

    My issues with the game that I think are what kills the game is power creep and how hard it is to keep up with the “meta” of the game
    For example with emblem Ike if you don’t have him you basically lose 9/10 times and if you do have him it puts you into a situation that is at worst even with someone else but if you didjt have the orbs to summon him or just got unlucky your toasted
    Another thing is the lack of orbs or lack of precognition to know when to or when to not spend your orbs since within the next banner give or take a month or two the brand new unit you just summoned probably gets dumpstered by the new character which leads into power creep but also A lack of supplies to stay relevant in the game is an issue.
    I dont think anyone would
    Complain about power creep if IS gave everyone (hypothetically) 250 orbs every month with new characters being released so everyone can stay relevant in the game

  • @lightning35
    @lightning35 22 дня назад +21

    Powercreep is one thing, but
    my biggest gripes about this game are the Summoning system and Arena.
    The summoning system has gotten too bloated you can barely pull for any specific unit any more. It's bad for 5★ but much worse for 4★. If you don't pull for a 4★ unit during its focus banner, odds are you will never see that unit again. I get Marcia and Vyland every other month, but haven't pulled a single Seteth for 1.5 years.
    When it comes to Arena you need to fish for your opponents, which ends up wasting your Arena Swords. And with every defense using the came cheap tactics such as map-wide warping or impregnable tanks, it doesn't make winning easier.

      Similar story for me. It took me 2 years to get my Thea to +10 from her +5 when her refine came out. Meanwhile the game favours definitely book 1 units sadly. I feel like I get so much more book 1 than other books demotes.

      Oh man, the Seteth project hits too hard. It was a two year project for me, never got enough copies and I think it was maybe two years ago that I finally finished the project.
      Biggest trial for me right now is Hestia. I managed to get up to five count right now but even when I’m summoning blue on my first free summons (or tickets on banners I don’t want anyone from), all I get are Catrias, Marcias, and Peris. It’s super frustrating. It helps when they have a new banner give you the demotes as rewards, but they don’t do it enough.

  • @RadPanther
    @RadPanther 21 день назад +5

    Kinda rubs me the wrong way if anyone constantly says favorites > meta since Book 7. Don't get me wrong, building favorites is fun - especially when they function well, but you're probably using a meta relevant character, or you're not F2P if you say that. Because the amount of resource drip feed in tandem with how turbulent the balance is? I'm spending more time doing nothing or getting bodied than actually enjoying my favorite. (Calling out zeshado not sorry lol)
    The meta changes bi-weekly, it is so turbulent that the gap between casual and optimal play gets wider, on top of feeling like there isn't anything to do ingame sometimes.
    I feel bad for people who want to just focus on their favs instead of trying to stay relevant. I know smn duels is a bad example, but my unmerged Lilith with her new refine took on a true max invest 10+ resp Black Knight with +10 E!Marth bonus, and bonus doubler support. No amount of dedication, as impressive as it is, can make some units relevant outside of PVE. It feels like an actual timewaster, and is intentionally misleading to say that using your favorite is enough reason to play FEH. We all want to feel like our long-winded effort isn't in vain in this game. Because what else do we have? A half-baked waifu sim? Undercooked lore?
    Or even worse, you want to pull for your favorite who is in the free pool - but the 3/4★ pool is so bloated that you will spend well over a year getting 11 copies with not even terrible RNG. Where are my Saizos and Dorothys?
    They could have kept introducing better inheritables on top of releasing broken units too, but they are doing their damndest to shaft units that rely on inheritables - in favor of the new thing. Straight up disrespectful, if the meta changes bi-weekly, why is it so hard to give veteran units a bone every couple of months?

    • @M0D776
      @M0D776 21 день назад

      Summoner Duels and Competitive Arena/Aether Raids are not the only thing the game has to do, you can perfectly play Arena and Aether Raids on low/mid tiers and just...stay there...I've been doing this for what? 3 years?, and I'm not the type to just boot up the game once in a while to play one match or two of the game, I straight-up play multiple matches of Arena and Aether Raids daily (not as much as I play Arena though), but not with Meta Teams or even with Score-Optimized teams, just some of my favs that I fed my best skills to and that's it, maybe I'll take some Meta units or New units for a spin every once in a while (most of the time as supports, stuff like Legendary Robin, Tina or Legendary Elincia, trying my best not to give em kills), but mostly sticking to my favorites is fun, specially when I fight against teams I expect to lose to but end up winning, all this as an F2P (not even a cent), however, if anyone actually wants to play Summoner Duels or Competitive Arena/Aether Raids, yeah, I agree, it's almost impossible to keep up as an F2P, heck, even as a spender I bet it'd be an insane grind, but hey, I just like using my outdated/irrelevant L'Arachels and Rinkahs and my Brave Eliwood with maybe a Jugdral character thrown into the mix, so I'll just stay stuck in like, Tier 15? 16? I don't remember right now, but yeah, keeps me from burning my head off with what the true Meta is or whether my team is Score-Optimized or not, if I wanted to do that I could just boot up my fav FE games and take my time with those.
      I do have to agree with the "Good luck pulling favs from the 3*/4* Pool" part, I felt like I was going insane when I tried to pull for Etie to +10 her and I just kept getting other characters I didn't want, like, I wasn't even asking for 5* Units, I JUST WANTED MY ATHLETIC WOMAN TO BE +10 (UN)INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS, WHY DID IT TAKE AS LONG AS IT DID??? But hey, at least she's done now, hopefully I get another unit I like soon so I can build em, maybe I will finally get Scarlet next time Fates gets a banner!...in like...a year...

      THANK YOU! I hate the "just use or collect your favorites" as an argument to play the game. It works if your favorite is also very popular and INTsys decided to concentrate on them. I have some favorites that I basically can't use due to DR(they never should've implemented this BS mechanic) or outdated stats/bad stats and burning through resources to update their kit. Examples:
      Lilina: Completely destroyed by damage reduction(regardless of which Lilina I use) unless given Special Spiral 4 or pulling Legendary Camilla(limiting team composition and builds)
      Nowi: No alt outside of first gen
      Matthew: No alt.
      Black Knight: Despite all the new "toys" we have, none of them work well with him. Same is true with Armads--I mean...Hector.
      Rebecca: One alt and I STILL have to invest quite a lot into said alt to make her at least relevant.
      Beruka: No alt and bad stats
      Leo: All alts were trash and the original had an interesting refine, but useless because there is barely any way to take advantage of it.
      Lloyd: Favorite of the Black Fang: No alt or resplendent and mid stats even during gen 1 era despite people talking about how bad the OG art is for YEARS. Linus gets one even though his original one was still relevant at the time(very salty about that)
      The list goes on...
      People will then say use them in PVE or "don't play meta"... That's all fine until you hit the recent books and paralogues where the characters are so strong that no amount of strategy will prevent you from dealing 0 damage and them one-shotting you. The second argument is like they're wearing a blindfold while playing any given mode or something. You get better rewards for reaching higher tiers so, if I didn't play any meta it would actually make it take LONGER to build a character than not doing so.
      I tried all these "versions of playing the game" that people come up with and all of them was just a bunch of spending time doing nothing meaningful or long-winded effort that was in vain. Also, If you haven't noticed INTsys does not like me apparently...

Just joined back during the last part of the 7th anniversary rewards, with around a few days left on the Marth Emblem banner. It's honestly been pretty jarring, since I came from an era where one of the best effects was the one line DC on something like Ryoma's Raijinto. I didn't really play every day until year 3 but even then I was there for Takumi, I was there for Reinhardt, Surtr, Ayra, Aversa, Ophelia, etc. But since I've played since day 1 I've accumulated a lot currency and units. For other games yall ever notice that they advertise stuff like "100 free summons!" "20,000 silver!" "50,000 gold!" or whatever their currency is for newcomers? For feh it's like the opposite because they only get brave banners and whatever banner is on rotation at the time they start. It's even worse when they have taken down all the old brave banners for new players so they even get less stuff. This game isn't very new comer friendly. I think they should add a bunch of new player quests so that they get a bunch of free stuff because as it is rn it's pretty harsh for newcomers. Yeah there are quests for people to get Reinhardt and Brave Ike but be for real no one has feared them for at least 3 years now

Imagine if there's a game mode where it matches yo up with a random player that matches your rank and you two have to take down a raid boss using 2 of your own units. Everytime I started to I would just start to think about the other things I could do.
    The nail in the coffin is I have started to try other GATCHA games which don't kick me in the gonads every month.

    I started playing NOV 2023 to earn nintendo points for xmas gifts, then quit in DEC. BUT, i came back after new yrs to earn more points. What made me quit initially was the walls of text, horrendous. + the game modes are mostly poorly explained to newbies. Had i not pulled B!Chrom + B!Soren, winter byleth, edelgard, & Yunaka (my ace hit & run), i likely would have quit again. This is the only FE game I've played, but now id consider others, so i thank FEH for opening that door. AR is the thing that really has kept me going now that I'm out of nintendo points to earn 🤣.
    Also, thank you Tacho for teaching me that i could CREATE seals haha. Still learning 6+ months in

      I totally advice playing other FE games, that gives you a whole different perspective of FEH and the characters. They're mostly pretty good, though you may feel like some of them are outdated and need a rework because of how gaming has evolved so far.

    Speaking as someone who's only been playing FEH for about a year, its actually hard to get into because of how complex the game gets so quickly. It absolutely steers away new players.
    I was lucky enough to be built different to somehow go through all of that, let alone surviving it. The summoning pool feels a little too bloated at the moment (I have a +9 Lapis from just trying to get Inigo sometimes and once had a +10 4 star Fae I sold for fearhers,) and it feels like you need a Ph.D to read the skills.
    Despite all of that, I'll be honest. I still enjoy the game, and I honestly like some of the more complex and deeper stuff about the game. Doesnt stop me from throwing a +10 Kempf at people and hoping it works though

  • @H3ilio_FEH
    @H3ilio_FEH 21 день назад +1

    Feels like I've had the opposite experience. From day 1 to around year 5 I've sincerely tried to enjoy the game but just couldn't because of how uninteresting it was. It was fire emblem but the map is too tiny to replicate the same experience, you have to go through the terrible gacha experience to use a character you like, you don't feel like you're progressing since it's pve but there's no real story and you don't see your characters progressing either. On top of that "building" units was so boring. I remember thinking that giving windsweep to S!Byleth was somewhat interesting bc it had synergy with her weapon and she was speedy, how lame lmao...
    Collecting faves or beating pve content has not changed much so the casual experience can still be enjoyed (if not better since we now have spark, more customability, most of the characters from the franchise) but to be competitive you have to make a bigger effort.
    Now the barrier of entry is certainly high but it now also has a competitive actually strategic part to it (and it's then logical that this part is difficult to get in). There are now synergies between skills/weapons, pairing units together does actually something, there are a lot of different interactions. Team building and theorycrafting finally makes sense. And when you win it's not against bot so it's actually rewarding. (And following feh content and engaging with the community finally makes sens now that there's such a wide range of gameplay elements to discuss. I don't know if 4 years ago we would have been able to have an entire week of Tachocast and still feel like there could be way more things to go over lol)
    I absolutely wouldn't say that feh is in a perfect spot but it finally feels like an actual game, the cost is that now you cannot be semi-casual/competitive and have high expectations.
    And final comments sry, the good thing is that feh pass is just enough to focus both on faves and competitive (when you don't have have 10 new units you consider faves per year at least ig)

I booted up the game and bumrushed getting edelgard and since then ive been playing. I only ever spent money getting christmas edelgard and just based off of what ive seen I wont be throwing money at any new banners. Doing my dailies gives me enough orbs to grab one or two units from every major banner and thats a fine pace for me

    I think it is Not a bad game but it is very different from old fire emblem series
    I call this game Pokemon emblem heroes.
    In old fire emblem, you have a small group of army and u complete a map for each stage and finally u beat the last map and complete the game. People who died in one map and would not come back alive in the next map.
    In this fire emblem , players collect heroes liking collecting Pokemon and busy training them and piles up crazy battle data or skills on each Pokemon like heroes.
    Sometimes u need to pay real cash to get very rare characters.😂🤣😂

    year 1 player, still have year one orbs saved up cause they were 2 a day back then
    the game is horrendous, i wouldn't even say fun as its just dark pattern design to keep you in, big reason i stopped playing daily as f2p, it isn't worth it especially when half the gacha is locked out to you by feh pass
    itt all goes back to that dark pattern design
    - get the player by being fair
    - then gouge the rewards (orbs nonexistent, f2p options weaker by a mile, more new heroes rewarding whaling)
    - create a tier list to see how far u can push the player (feh pass, then bundles, then they're paying $99+) its all on purpose
    - strangle the game even more for forcing them to spend (new bonus flowers for whaling)
    there's no ethical way to recommend the game, it has good art but its in no way worth it, free game shouldn't be scum game design

    Anyone can join, youre basically a new player if you dont play or collect orbs for a few months. Youre actually at an advantage in that case if you have many story maps to complete.
    The reason for new player difficulty will be the time it will take you to learn how to learn what makes units strong, and understanding the meta itself. Not making stupid choices on bad units is really important.
    If youre new realize that not every shiny new thing thats released will break the meta. Save your orbs until that time comes.

    This game is such a mess. PVP sucks, pulling for new units is a wash because those are replaced so quickly, using F2P units is a wash because the grail prices are so high and like...can you even use those as fodder? Iirc, you can only get a limited amount of those and if you wanted to both use them and burn them, you are out of luck. Events are so grindy and also stopped being rerun. Story was never particularly good and kinda got worse over time. Tapbattle was ok-ish, but barely had worthwhile rewards...
    It is just, what does the game do well anymore besides art and music? There is a reason it only exists in the eyes of the larger FE communit to mess up our translation patches.

    I dont care about powercreep, it just keeps the pvp interesting. Nothing is more boring in a pvp game than a stale meta with the same 5 characters in every battle.
    It also makes it more challenging and fun to use older favorite characters against the monthly op guy. And the fact you can fodder skills to olders units means there isnt a massive difference in power besides base stats.

    As someone who has play non stop day 1 is not worth it, i just keep the grind and stand this mess because i love fire emblem, but i just cant recommend this game the way i did when it started, this game is mess a flaming hot dung, if i wasnt a fe fan id uninstall right away, bet that new players, uninstall right away after seeing the skills, and if they keep the game enough to experience it a lil more they encounter that the meta changes every week which is not good.

    Call me crazy, but I am a 100%. Convinced that the seeds is the main determining factor and whether or not you're gonna get good units from banners. I made a brand new F2P account just to + 10 emblem. Ike and I had to reroll multiple accounts from the free 40 orbs until I got a emblem ike. a free rerolls and I managed to plus tenwhile getting 7 embla 6 elincia to And a boat load other free 5 star premium units like Duo, Robin and young Robin. Camila etc. Not trying to brag, took like 2 days for grinding orbs. That account is cracked and am sweeping meta teams in SD For some coins and dews etc. The takeaway is if you know what you are doing a f2p account is certainly doable in the current meta. Your AR defense though is going to get stwamrolled 😅
