      I think it’s good, plenty of channels who have to deal with long spans with no content do this sort of commentary series. I agree with eternal. I think you should give yourself more time to answer certain questions, and as a result maybe have less questions in the video.

      Personally, I'm quite happy to watch long, in-depth videos about a single topic - but if fans are asking you so many questions that you can't give them the full treatment, I think this format is a pretty good way of answering them! And if people crowd the comments saying how much they'd like to see a full-length discussion on a subject, well, you can always do that later...

    The monastery is tough because I feel like its so, so, SO important to the emotional beats of the story as well as aspects of the gameplay that flesh out the world and play a big role in showing, not telling. I’m coming at it from a perspective of liking the monastery because I love listening to the character dialogue and I really don’t see what all the trouble is in getting through it quickly while considering what you need for your next battle (I’m on my…7th maddening? And I’m still having fun with it), but for so many people to struggle with it, I don’t think it’s something I’d want to just call a difference of opinion. There is something to be done with it to make it more fun for all players, even those who enjoy it. I don’t think that’s making it optional, because again it’s very important to 3H and a big part of its identity, but rather making it more relevant and fun in a few ways with hindsight and more budget, both visually and mechanically. Im hoping for that sort of thing in a hypothetical 3H definitive.

    • @MrGksarathy
      @MrGksarathy 7 месяцев назад +9

      Thank you so much for putting this out there! I totally agree. I bonded very quickly with the monastery, and it's why I was able to so quickly emotionally invest in the story. The 3 Hopes base camps just weren't the same.
      Garreg Mach was basically all my childhood associations with Hogwarts, but better.

      The problem is doing calculations for optimal meals and other activities, tea answers, and so on, as well as teaching options. Having a good "optimize" button and an option to just skip the monastery and get a simplified menu would help
      Edit: I guess what I'm trying to say is, I like the world building aspect of the hubs, but hate how it feels like I have a bunch of chores to do before moving on to the next chapter. Also, making all the little minigame things be purely for fun and not do anything is another option for "fixing" the hubs

    • @EXchoco
      @EXchoco 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@reidskull5018 In my opinion, those calculations (in 3H at least) is a big part of the gameplay-more the gardening for stat boosters, sauna for units falling behind or who need more skills for more strict classes, Byleth’s skills in order to recruit favorite units before the timeskip while balancing your limited time ofc as opposed to the tea times and such, which are less useful and more optional-considering how its gameplay is so tightly tied to unit building, commitment to builds, and building a diverse army with strong utility to work around unexpected scenarios in battle. At least in maddening, and the beginning of hard if you’re a new player. So for me, in terms of gameplay, I view the monastery as another part of the battle. I find it very satisfying to watch the units grows as well, and of course all that is very important to the story, and selling the whole academy/professor idea. All that is why I’m really against the idea of removing it/making it basically purposeless in gameplay. It separates the story and gameplay where I feel like they otherwise elevate each other. That said it’s totally true that it needs to be better, even I have little ideations of a cooler monastery haha. I just think the way to do that is to make the activities more entertaining, more relevant to the core gameplay and less…just pressing a button, and it happens. That way it’s at least as high quality, even if it’s not for some people.

    • @MrGksarathy
      @MrGksarathy 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@reidskull5018 That makes the minigames considerably more boring, in my view. It's why the Somniel generally missed IMO.
      Also, doing the calculations added some more personality to the characters in gameplay, and I personally found the gardening calcs kinda fun. I even made a basic Python program to calculate the overall score of a set of seeds.
      I do get why some people who don't like fun would want the simplified menu option.

    • @thomasquesada7248
      @thomasquesada7248 7 месяцев назад +2

      You’re right about the monastery being essential to Three Houses story and characters skipping it heavily hurts the game but going through it is a miserable experience that hurts the game too
      there is absolutely 0 reason that all of the monastery can’t be done fast through a menu and even then the game should just stop having you teach stuff to everybody when the war starts with only some private tutoring so you can meet the final class benchmarks and only one week in between battles, it’s also completely stupid to go back to the monastery in a very clearly linear invasion

    *I think a Three houses sequel is possible. Up to 4 In fact* Here's how:
    1-3) Prequels Sothis-Agarthan war or Rhea war or any period after Rhea took power.
    4) Actual sequal after 3H: Remember how in Dimitri's route the Agarthans survive? That can give us a canoncial ending that proceeds like this: Dimitri wins but a while after the Agarthands do a successful surprise attack with a Nemesis army and destroy everything, forcing Byleth to do a ritual to jump all the way back to the acadmey phase again. This time with all his future knowledge he starts to teach all 3 classes in a rotating fashion, allowing him to be a unifying force and trying to prevent alot of the conflicts from breaking out.
    That would also allow to finally get supports between the house leaders and their retainers.
    And if 4) has all 3 house leaders and nations surviving at the end that would even open the door for a sequel of the sequel.

    On the topic of hub areas. I do like the idea of the monestary, especially doing a run through each mission to hear the lore tidbits and every characters thoughts on the next mission. But, is that enough to really make a hub area good enough? You could actually get the same in a small cutscene without much work (Since Fire Emblem cutscenes is just the character models against a mainted background anyways)
    Which made me think of another game I really like: Valkyria Chronicles.
    In that game the whole presentation happens through a book, and the "bub area" is just pages in that book, and from there you select what to do and get a short cutscene. It works pretty well, and is a lot smoother than having to run around a hub area. It also has the added benefit of linking together cutscenes etc. Especially Valkyria Chronicles 4 did it nicely with paralogue style missions and everything.

    • @whiteraven1992
      @whiteraven1992 4 месяца назад

      Would it be sufficient compromise for the "Hub" area to basically be a Map/"overworld" view instead?

    • @TheAurgelmir
      @TheAurgelmir 4 месяца назад +1

      @@whiteraven1992 You would still need menus to navigate things though. With a map you'd probably have your base, and from that base you'd select options. The book in Valkyria Chronicles was a nice presentation of said menus. (Check the game out if you haven't played it).
      Heck. Fire Emblem Engage has a book already in form of the character entry thing. Why not expand on that? The main benefit of the Monastery in Three Houses was that it also provided some "small talk about the upcoming mission." All the dialogue was also voice acted. So, I never really felt like that hub was bad. But, in Engage? Man I'm getting tired of the Somniels "mandatory" stuff. I would have much rather treat it a bit like the training in Three Houses. Select what party members is going to do what task, then get a small mongage of them doing it (such as picking fruit, swimming, caring for the animals, training in the areaa), and then we get the rewards.
      All of that could be done from the map of course, but if you have to move the character from "place to place" to do each screen it's essentially just a fancy menu? I just really like the book presentation in Valkyria Chronicles.

    My personal best idea for a sequel is awakening gaiden. The same way that awakening was a spiritual retelling of marth's story I'd love to see how that era rebuilds valentia/valm, either with a lost heir to walhart or something of the like. As far as characters making cameos, it'd be extremely easy to have virion, cherche, and say'ri play a role but it would be fun to potentially see the kids show up without their mommy/daddy issues or time travel chicanery drawing attention away from their core personalities. If set later enough in the timeline it would be even more fun to see the adult versions of the prime universe's kids show up as well, so much untapped potential with that

    @skynet0912 7 месяцев назад +2

    When it comes to capture mechanics, i would love it if we could capture more of the story relevant bosses and minibosses, but you had to do something VERY difficult in order to get them, like a really difficult paralogue you only have a small window to do so you can't just grind the difficulty out of it to get them at all, and then a small paralogue section of a later map to avoid that they have to leave you, like they have to go back home to save their family, but if you beat a specific map fast enough, you cut the attack short so their family isn't in danger anymore and they can stay...
    If anything, i would like it if paralogues were integrated into main mission maps, where you get an extra unit tied to that paralogue on top of your existing deployment slots, but you in turn get an extra sidemission you must complete on a previously locked part of that map, basicly making a map with two main missions, both being failure conditions!

    I feel like the issue with longevity for games like Engage in the minds of a fandom that specifically have good gameplay but not so good story is that stories are always unique, gameplay is always iterated. The goal of the next non-remake FE game will be to try trumping the gameplay of Engage, or at least making something that is just as good. You also have the issue that as a game gets less actively available most people will experience it through secondhand means, which is not so good for gameplay that isn't cool to watch (let's be real, watching fire emblem gameplay over actually playing it can be a bit of an acquired taste). That being said the emblems were pretty cool, and tbh I hope they do bring them back in SOME capacity if not in the next game, then in a future one.

    Some thoughts - A Three Houses sequel would be better served by going off the Three Hopes timeline rather than the original game. Nothing ended conclusively in that timeline, so you could draw together these points somehow. I also think it would be great to explore the lands beyond Fodlan, they teased so much out in the scant lore, such as that wizard tower in the desert...
    On silent vs active characters, I do like active characters, but only when written well. A poorly written, toothpaste haired active character will really turn me off a game. Silent characters are bland but safe. Though I did like Byleth. Probably one of the few silent characters that I did

  • @illusive-mike

    The way to justify retaining Engage's gameplay elements already exists: just move all the effects onto the Battalions, adding a special mode for them named something like Muster. Engage skills are already Gambits, as referenced by Byleth himself stealing one of them for his super. Engage weapons could be turned into standard battalion-driven attacks, where e.g. instead of the main character attacking with their sword the armor corps rushes forward with their axes. Such a system also allows a finer control of power levels: you can reintroduce Authority and use it to gate certain powerful battalions or features, and the role of Bond Rings can be filled with generic low-tier battalions. Composing the system like this would also be very convenient for giving good effects to the enemy without needing excessive story explanation, and you can still have something like Ch. 17 happen by just having a map where the enemy runs lots of elite battalions in a scene meant to represent a massive all-out battle.

      I don't even think that Fates needs much to fix it, you just need to change the whole Crystal Ball thing, make it be a more character driven story giving more depht to them as a whole(Fates's main issue IT'S the characters not being fleshed out), give more gray nuances to the war, more information about that world and change some of the dialogue
      I don't think Fates would be entirely fixed of some of its questionable things in a Remake, but as long they expanded the characters and made them more likeable and deep(like Three Houses) while also making the conflict more nuanced (maybe, even change how Revelation happens) and changed some of the shittiest parts of the story
      Fates would probably be way more acceptable in the main story and make its characters way more endearing.

We never found out what specifically happened to Alms falchion although it was most likely lost in the schism so perhaps finding out that Alm had another descendent besides Walhart that eventually finds and wields falchion would be cool. The game could have him and some new characters join up with Chrom's army to stop someone trying to bring back Duma or maybe even a corrupted Mila. It could even have a supblot with them suffering backlash from Walharts reign and trying to prove to valms people that he's nothing like him.

  • @Glass_Ninja
    @Glass_Ninja 7 месяцев назад +1

    FE3H probably can't do a sequel in the vein you proposed because of the relationship between Byleth's Crest of Flames and Crimson Flower's ending.
    After the end of CF, we see the Crest of Flames in Byleth's chest melt away and their heart beating for the first time. This implies that Byleth has lost their status as Ascended/Nabatean and most fan theories involving this ending also point to this being their first time being able to be emotional. The imagery and its interpretation, at least in the West, is very much that of Byleth becoming mortal. So any CF sequel would almost guarantee that Byleth is aging.
    Rather than a sequel, we still have tons of places we can explore in the broader world of Fodlan. Brigid, Dagda, Duscr, and Almyra could all serve as great settings for a Thracia/Genealogy situation. Or for Fodlan more proper, there's ~1500 years of history you could explore, such as the War of Eagle and Lion or the Leicester Alliance's original rebellion and occupation by Kingdom forces, the latter of which neatly divides into three parts of the factions we already know. While the outcome is already known in the sequel prequel's cases, setting it as far back as either event allows for individual dramatic elements and storytelling as well as tie-ins to the prequel sequel.

    Thats an interesting thought. As far as sequels go, Awakening and Engage are kind of left in the air after the final boss if that makes any sense. Both of these games end in such a standard way that it is very possible for a sequel to be made if IS so chooses to do so. In fact, I almost kind of want an Engage sequel just to see if IS will inprove or expand on any characters that I feel deserves more time in the sun (Literally all four of the crowned nobles comes to mind. Especially Diamant who I felt deserves his own game, or at least more involvement with the story after the Brodia arc was done.)
    With that being said, im actually more curious if a fe game will get rebooted more then remade. Even though Fates writing can be terrible at times, the concept overall is soild, it was just exucuted poorly. Thats the game I personally want to see redone because there is so mucj potential with that idea. It just wasnted cooked long enough and apparently from what I read. The writer creating the world had a 500 page manuscript and half of it was cut out. If thats the case, just make a bigger game instead of 3 smaller ones if that makes any sense. Im not sure how it would be done but it would be cool to see.

    I personally think a 3H Sequel isn't actually that hard to make. For ease of programming, though, it probably needs the same threat for all three routes (Epimenedes, a Dagdan invasion, some completely new threat) at least at the beginning but use that same conflict to explore how differently the worlds post-reforms as Fodlan reacts and we see how things have developed and has different missions based on hanging plot threads from the different routes (like Almyran characters being a big part of a VW world, TWISTD returning post-AM under new leadership in some way, or CF having some unique focus on a world with Crests removed). You still get a lot of shared missions in the lead-up as they establish the threat, but with different cutscenes and characters, then hit a point in the story where things branch off in more unique ways as the world situation is different. Sort of parallel timelines dealing with the same problem.
    It does mean either putting in canon relationships or just having only a small number of returning characters (The Lords, a couple chosen for plot reasons, etc.) and having Byleth/Protag lead a different set of characters that could be unrelated or siblings/cousins or whatever the case. Fodlan has a ton of noble houses that we know the names and territories of thanks to Hopes, it wouldn't be that hard to add, like, Balthus's brother or something as a unit.

    I figure a follow up Fodlan game would be similar to what they did with Three Hopes: Change the gameplay style, and have new pathways for each Lord or other major characters, following another potential outcome. Specifically, I think it'd be a fighting game, with a couple characters from each house/the Church/Agarthans.
    As for character options, definitely at least one representative from every major class, but for specific characters, definitely include:
    Byleth, Shez
    Rhea, Seteth, Catherine, Shamir
    Edelgard, Hubert, Dorothea, Petra
    Dimitri, Dedue, Felix, Ingrid
    Claude, Holst, Lorenz, Lysithea
    Thales, Kronya, Nemesis, Epimenides
    (On the bubble are Ferdinand (RIP), Jeritza, Jeralt, Alois, Cyril, Judith, Nader, Leonie. And I wish I had more commoners to choose from.)
    Hmm... Actually, maybe this would work with a primary fighter and a Support character. No, no particular recent fighting game inspired that idea, it's just something that works in a couple series, going back at least to MVC1.

    I think the only way a sequel taking place in Fodlan would really work is if it considered Azure Moon canon. They took out Thales during the siege of Derdriu, and a few more during the siege of Enbarr, but they never raided Shambala. The slithers have a black eye, but they're very much still out there.

    • @nsheikh17
      @nsheikh17 7 месяцев назад

      i think what could work is a sequel that takes place at least several decades after Three Houses, and keep the details of the war that united Fòdlan vague enough that it could plausibly be any route. Both Dimitri and Edelgard are dead by this time, whether bc of the war or the aftermath isn’t mentioned, again to keep the canon route vague (Edelgard has a shortened lifespan anyway and several of Dimitri’s paired endings have him dying before his partner does). If they wanted to they could possibly bring an older Claude back as a surprise or in a mentor role as the King of Almyra, as that’s something that could happen in every route.

    The Hub worlds im split on. I adored the 3H monastery and felt it added a lot of subtle story telling and plot hints from NPCs. It made the story more immersive for me. But I did wish there was a bit more optimisation as it did feel a little tedious at times. While Engages Somneil felt more tedious. I hated at launch having to constantly go between ring chamber and arena. I think Emblem mechanic made the skills feel so tedious to get the more units and emblems you get. I wish you could turn the arena combat off.

      Complete opposite for me the monastery disrespect the player by making all of its boring minigames necessary to progression and is the biggest time waster in the series, hands down worst thing in the series
      The somniel actually respect me and my time by staying as a secondary feature like it should be inheriting skills in engage is also faster and far less boringly repetitive and tedious than FE

      And professor rank is necessary to plan the master classes

      The somniel activities aren’t necessary for progression and skipping the somniel doesn’t hurt the story and characters unlike in TH where everybody will praise you for being a fantastic teacher that never showed up in class

      @@thomasquesada7248 The loading screens in 3H are only a few seconds at most if you're traveling between different areas in the monastery, and New Game+ makes most of it even less neccessary, something Engage doesn't have.
      No one even cares about what's going on in the world below the Somniel as long as you're there, you might as well be playing an entirely different game, but it's not like the story itself really has any weight or substance to it anyway.
      And even the biggest Engage defenders haven't given one single example of how the Somniel existing at all enhances the game in any way. Fates's My Castle lets you visit other players from all over the world, use their buildings, get ore and cooking ingredients, battle them to get their units and skills, and get Battle/Visit points for extra rewards. The Monastery actually helps to immerse the player in the world and shows how even the NPCs have something to say and/or have some kind of activity going on.
      What single aspect of the Somniel makes people actively enjoy visiting it, optional or not? Costumes? The ones that don't show up in battles? The Ring Chamber? Where you're better off just playing Heroes instead? Is there ANYTHING in it that's enjoyable?

    This is probably irrelevant but I wanted to say it cuz I could: My dumbest pet peeve with engage is that despite being a dargan and having Le dargan rock around somewhere (dunno if spoilers are an issue so I’m not saying much about it but yeah I know the justifications) you don’t get to turn into a dragon. It drives me CRAZY for some reason… idk I just kinda feel like… CHEATED somehow by that.

    There’s a few different interpretations in the comments, but I think the 3H hate question is mostly referring to a recent rise in elitism, ie 3H fans not being “real fire emblem fans” and that sort of thing. It’s sort of like how big corners of the persona fandom hate Persona 5/P5 fans because it was the game most people liked, or the most “mainstream” game. This escalated especially after Engage, because 3H fans seemed quickest to criticize Engage due to high expectations for the story/art, where other fans, especially big fans of engage, considered Engage a return to form, due to a dislike of the story/character prominence of 3H that 3H fans liked.
