Xbox showcase was awesome but I don't trust Perfect Dark footage, Fable footage. For all unreleased games 'gameplay' we should all be skeptical and not expect the final game to look like it because it always goes through changes before release.
I am a PC gamer, so for all intents, I expect quality to be reminiscent.
@@Pemalite things can change enough that it wouldn't matter that it's played on PC if certain graphical features are missing and lighting is different. It will be noticeable.

It's definitely misleading, and it was obviously on purpose. Their showcase was reminiscent of E3 showcases of the past, where all footage was massively overproduced, pre-rendered, sometimes total CGI, etc. And it worked, people got really hyped with it. And I saw a lot of people really thinking that was all Series X footage, when I point out it's mostly all RTX 4090 maxed out PC footage, they are like no way this is all Xbox they said in-engine or gameplay footage. Microsoft knew very well what they were doing here.

Always the trailers target the most powerful version available.
Maybe the confusion persist because the show is labelled as Xbox showcase, but they refers to Xbox as a company that develop games for PC and Xbox. Is natural show the PC version where the sky is the limit.
However the PC version of Forza didn't achieve the target of the trailer.
Honestly, sometimes I think xbox should just go all in and create affordable micro PCs. Like that's pretty much what they're doing, just let me be able to play the same saves on both systems. There's such a thin wall at this point between a series x and a PC anyway
I sort of have a similar but different angle than Alex, and it's what Rich is getting at at the end but Microsoft rarely, aka almost never, says "Running on Series X" when showing off their games. South of Midnight, looks beautiful but didn't look like something that would stretch the Series X, so why not say "running on Series X"? Even Halo Infinite, when they showed updated single player gameplay footage a mere 2-3 months before its launch in 2021 (which boggles my mind that they waited that long), didn't say "Running on Series X" in the trailer. MS has this wishy washy sentiment in how it shows gameplay, in-engine footage, etc and it's all so vague and hazy that just ends up being frustrating. Even Fable and State of Decay 3, they show mere snippets of gameplay and 95% cinematics, without a "Running on Series X" messaging. Just baffles me that MS still does that
the problem is expecting honesty from Microsoft. Or any AAA publisher. If they can sell one extra pre-order copy with misleading footage they will push it.
Microsoft is always misleading. For instance they completely lack of a clear messaging about exclusives titles… for each title shown everybody is asking when it will come to PlayStation… good job Phil 👏
You can check the sites for each. From all the titles, you can be sure 9 of those aren't coming to PlayStation, and I'm not sure about STALKER 2, but could be 10 if you count that one. The original games were PC exclusives until this year, and they did announce the console ports before they got released on Xbox, but they were shadow dropped on PlayStation too, so I highly doubt STALKER 2 isn't coming to PS5.
Other 7 games are coming to PS5, but I'm not going to pretend like you aren't missing any important games if you're only playing on PlayStation. Expecting ALL the games to come to PS5 would be a bit too much, but if you take into consideration that Xbox players are getting all of those day 1 on Game Pass, which means they already have the better deal for games like Black Ops 6 or DOOM, then I don't see a reason to not port those 9 games to PS5 too.

They are going to take 1 look at what happens to cod and the floodgates will open.
Nobody on Xbox or PC will buy cod, they will play it on gamepass. Sales of the game will be at an all time low because it's only being paid for by PS users.
Microsoft will see this, and if they are smart will see that gamepass is killing their business and they can't walk back on it. Everything they 'give away for free' will also be sold á la carte on competitors platforms in hopes they actually make money off of it somewhere. They may even wait for the new Nintendo platform first.
This is the smartest move they can make and if we all enjoy our gamepass subscription and dont want it to change, we should all hope this is the route they take
@@d8l835then all games should go everywhere, but that's always a last ditch. As long as there's benefit to getting people in your ecosystem that's how it'll be. If Sony had competent leadership they'd at least be on pc day one.

Not misleading I would say, just overhyped. Most of what we saw at the show we had known about for years. Literal years and years. A lot of what was shown wasn’t necessarily indicative of what we’ll actually see when we get the game in our hands, and it would be remiss to not mention the sheer number of the games shown that are also going to other platforms. It was a solid B, by no means disappointing but definitely room for improvement.
Not the topic but come on, who cares? You're telling me if Sony showed Tlou3, uncharted 5, and spiderman 3 in one showcase, and they look awesome, we'd all say "o who cares we've known of these games for years!"

Uncharted of old, but with a new protagonist are the rumors. It's also not being made by Naughty Dog apparently
@d8l835 wasn't that originally the rumours for Uncharted 1 remake that got cancelled and swapped to The Last of Us part 1 remake and then brought in house mid development and finally released from Naughty Dog themselves?
I'm presuming thats the mix up on the rumours, as I havn't heard anything about what you're saying yet and I watch gaming news daily and love the Uncharted series lol.

No, not true. Dragon's Dogma 2, to use a recent example, was running on a PS5. It was possible to know the framerate on each scene and it was all over the place.
@joseijosei That drops frames on PC as well. Still, the majority of games like COD use PC footage in the trailers to make the game look better.

Thats not close to true. Ps clearly marks the video footage with print saying running on a ps5 (or formerly ps4). If that isnt there, then its running on a pc. Couldnt be much more clear than that.

I dont get this, most of these games are going into Gamepass which is both PC & console. What exaclty are you asking them to do? This is a showcase for both, so what you're seeing is an insight into what you "should" be getting, not a one on one replica, for every device Gamepass can use.
They're asking for the footage to be labeled like Sony does on their trailers. It should say running on PC RTX4090 if that's what it's running on. Or running on Series S if that's what it's running on, etc. You want to know what you are getting not false adverstising.
@didibus I'm not so sure about that, I dont see this as false advertising. They say that its cinematic, in-engine, or gameplay. It doesn't matter if it's on a PC or the XSS. it's a showcase, so you're given a rough idea of what it may look like when it's out. With Sony, they are still console centric, so they can do that.
And I don't know what these guys are moaning about. It is them who do the comparisons on finished items.
@@Calm_Chaos I don't see how it shows a rough idea. A 4090 RTX with full RT on, that won't be a rough idea, game might run at 600p with 30 fps and dips to the low 10s, no RT, and all on a Series S. It's pretty deceiving to me. Flip the question around, why not label it, if they're not hiding something?
They also didn't actually say gameplay or cinematic either. For example, Gears of War they said (in-engine), but it's likely pre-rendered. So probably even cinematics won't look as good, and gameplay will be even worse.
@didibus I think that situation with Gears of War was already corrected by the Coalition, as it was using in-game objects.
Again, it's a showcase, with unfinished development. What exactly are they going to do at the next showcase, introduce the specs, what graphic card they're using, which CPU, how much memory, is ray-tracing on or off, what resolution is it running at etc. Just for some people who already have these items to be vaildated? Then show the XSX, after that the XSS and don't forget the tablets, phones, portable PCs and TVs. Can you see why I say a "rough idea". I take it from the XSX as this is middle ground. I can also see how the games are evolving. Like Perfect Dark, it's great to see that they have stuck to its FPS mode.
@@Calm_Chaos They just need to say if it's footage captured on XSX or Maxed out PC. And if it's pre-rendered like Gears, they should say that too. In-game objects just mean they are using Unreal to make a pre-rendered CGI with the same assets the game is using.
Sony has been doing that for a couple years now. It's very simple to do. Microsoft should do the same. And yes, Sony used to be just as deceptive years ago as well, but they corrected that.

@@fcukugimmeausername You're getting a better experience on PS5 than the majority of PC gamers yes. The top 5 most used GPU on steam are: 1. RTX 3060 2. GTX 1650 3. RTX 3060 ti 4. RTX 3070 5. GTX 1060. Like 98% of PC user are low to mid spec. 58% game at 1080p, 38% has 8gb of VRAM. This is all backed by steam data. You need to stop thinking as if high end PC represents all PCs. They don't. High end PCs are like 2% of all steam monthly users. The average PC experience is well below PS5.
@@electrikoptiknot to mention ps5 does 4k visuals and a lot of pc setups aren’t good for 4k. So I’ll give them that. At least for one more gen ps5 is a good value. Now if we are comparing 1440p pc performance vs ps5 4k performance, then it’s a more interesting story for lots of gamers. But I realized lately how great gaming is on my pc with a big 4k tv. For any single player game, I highly recommend it if you have a 4k good card. Or yes a ps5 also works if you don’t.

Just wanted to indicate to the best of my abiltiy a recent downfall of DIGITAL FOUNDRY. I will ALWAYS hold you guys in high regard but its becoming pretty obvious that someone powerful is very determined to turn the foundry into a cash cow. I will not be able to articulate this very well, sorry ive got an imperfect memory. I know that GENERAL feedback isnt partiuclarly useful, so hopefully someone can come along and better explain how disappointing its been to watch this channel focus on short form current event video uploads.

I feel Microsoft is not misleading. My theory is microsoft is planning on absorbing pc gaming. The way that there moving pc and Xbox in going to be one thing. Soon there wouldn't be a pc community or Xbox community. It would be just Xbox brand as whole.

That's whats happening right now I feel more than before. They release all Xbox Games Studios games to Steam day 1. And it's a lot of xbox games studios now with the acquisitions. And of course game pass is on PC too. Windows install screen has xbox game pass advertised. When you buy pc games from ms store you might get it on xbox too for free. The program is called Xbox on windows ffs. It's so clear now that I don't understand how xbox gamers are super pissed when they see no xbox release on that new marvel vs capcom game but it says pc release I'm like do you not have PCs? I guess they really want to play on their xbox but I mean just hook up a xbox controller to your pc lol.
edit: it's literally buy a xbox controller and get game pass on pc and you are playing xbox.

😂 why does this matter for Xbox? THEY SHIP ALL OF THEIR GAMES ON PC! Playstation and Nintendo don't ship on PC so they have different rules. If Microsoft shows PC footage, console players will be mad and say they're abandoning Xbox. If they show Xbox footage, PC players will think the games look like dogshit. Not telling people is the best way to go

@joseijosei Wrong, nearly every sony reveal says 'captured on ps5'. Not only that, they usually show a good chunk of gameplay. They did the same with spiderman 2, they did the same with GOW 2018 and Rag. As bad as the recent showcase was, atleast all the games shown weren't running on a 4090, unlike xbox's last showcase

In what way? Sony always clarify whether footage is in-game or in-engine or whatever. Their first party games usually have the same graphical fidelity that they showcase

Xbox is not a console but a brand - so PC is included. So obviously they'll show the best possible visuals.
Exactly. I can see how an uninformed or ignorant consumer could think that Xbox only makes consoles, but Xbox PC and Game Pass PC have existed in wide use for many years now. We can use the same Xbox account and have cross-ownership.
That doesn't explain the disparity between the forza 8 reveal to the finished product. It looked amazing in the reveal, and even the pc version doesn't come close in visual fidelity
Yeah no, that sounds like shifting the goalposts to me. A PC isn't an Xbox, it's an open platform that goes beyond Microsoft's OS. It's not a closed wall garden like the Xbox. That's poor justification for passing off PC footage as Series X | S gameplay.
You're also assuming that every Xbox gamer has a PC and would be ok with the downgraded visuals they'll get compared to the PC footage
@@RandomGamingMoments925 The Xbox app/store on PC and related Game Pass content is in fact a closed wall garden just as it is on consoles. Many games on PC Xbox aren't available via other stores such as Steam, EGS, GOG, etc. The games that are on it (whether they're also on other stores or not) are UWP apps as opposed to traditional ones you'd get via those stores, and third-party mods won't work with them.

I couldn’t care less about these showcases using PC to show the games. We all know the games have variable image quality depending on what system you’re playing on. But that doesn’t matter. Pixel counting when you’re playing on an Xbox from 8 to 10 ft away from your TV, in the middle of a gaming session is unrealistic and 99% of players do not care or notice.
This dude wants Microsoft to be excited about PC, a platform they created, and they have to go through Steam... Nah fam, it's not first until they take it back.
