How fast can you foul out of an NBA game? | High Score

- Why would someone foul out of an NBA game really fast? One of the NBA's strangest leaderboards features all kinds of players who, on one night or another, committed all six of their allotted fouls in just a few minutes. Like ... five or six. This episode of High Score figures out how and why those players made foul-out history, and a lot of it has to do with inexperienced or injured players facing impossible match-ups.
But THE record -- the far-and-away high score in this game -- has a different story. It's a story that involves a familiar hacking strategy, a deep-bench player with almost no NBA career to speak of, and a mad scientist coach who seized the opportunity to combine those variables into his weirdest experiment yet.

Flore Bulaon Lmao that channel is dead af
TrippingInDenver well said!
A man named "Bill Musselman", who is neither a Spongebob character nor a bodybuilder. What a waste.
Palace Of Wisdom He has a son named Eric that was a head coach in the NBA and is now the head coach at the University of Arkansas
Spongebob character probably named 'Gill' Musselman
Maaan Rodman averaged 15 rebs that season (only his sixth best) and had 15 games with 20 or more rebounds AND he was 36. Crazy
I see you
Board man gets paid
Rodman's one of the all-time greatest rebounders. From 1989-95... 7 straight seasons,he led the league in rebounds. In 1994, he missed some time due to injury. He played in only 56 games that season & still led the NBA in Rebounds. Amazing!! 🏀
Bare in mind he didnt even play no ball til he was 19
He also averaged 4 lines of blow per night
Interestingly, Wilt Chamberlain never fouled out of a single game
Sam Evans because he didn’t play defense half of the time
@@myname1989 really ?
I don’t step on ants either 🤷🏾♂️
he always stopped playing defense after getting 5 fouls
You have no evidence of this, so it's best for you to stop right there
He didn't foul out, but K.J McDaniels gave 5 fouls in 30 seconds for the Rockets in 2016 (It was to put Andre Drummond at the free throw line)
It was actually only 9 seconds...
He should’ve gone for the record
Clemson Legend
Yes. This
Beat the Drum - New Hack-a-Shaq?
I just want to put some attention to Rodman's stat line... 27 rebounds... That guy was a beast with none like him.
That's halfway to the record which is 55. Probably one of the truly unbreakable NBA records.
@@tmage23 Incredibly, the Celtics only missed 57 shots in that game. Who knows how many offensive rebounds he had
Charles Barkley could grab that many rebounds and score 30 points at the same time.
Don Nelson's "Mad Scientist" moniker makes light of his innovative contributions to the game, in America and abroad.
Thank you, Coach Nelson. Those who like 2019 pro basketball owe a debt to you.
00:04 The "Speed Fowl" art is incredible
Right? Very creative. Love the effort they put into these with the old school vids/games art.
This is the most underrated youtube channel

a guy from nz Hi Jeff
TWENTY-SEVEN REBOUNDS!?! Good lord Rodman.
Board man gets paid.
Up next, we really need the Marvin Bagley and Damian Lillard fully explained. Like so they can see.
Hadn’t finished yet tho
The real high scorer is my MyCareer character in NBA 2K19
Square is the intentional foul button.
BryWy gotta foul with the touch pad if you really want to set the record.
😂😂😂😂
“Put me in coach!”
“Hell no, you have 5 fouls in 2 minutes!”
“Exactly! Now...I SAID PUT ME IN!!!”
HISTORY MUST BE MADE!
Can you get a technical for striking your own coach? 😱
In high school, I played with a kid who would regularly foul out in the first half. He was a very aggressive defender, who could pick the point guards pocket about 7/10 times, but as a result he fouled a lot. Since he wasn't really good on offense other than for points off his steals, our coach would just put him in about halfway through the first to shut down the other teams top scorer. We ended up winning the state championship last year, and he fouled out of the game with 14 left in the second half.
0:02; A sneak preview of future episodes?

That 3 point chuck better not be the 2018 Rockets
@@brokenking5044 the 3 point chuck was already covered here: ruclips.net/video/x3ijGXjT6lE/видео.html
Could you do 'most pitches in one at bat' for this show?
this channel is great deserves a lot more recognition.
Wilt has always been known for his sub par foul shooting, but the 50% ft rate lines up with most of his contemporaries acknowledging that he'd intentionally miss the second shot to get his own rebound and score for two. His stats indicate an incredible rate of capitalizing on free throw rebounds, to the point where they changed the size of the key and so on to try to stifle Wilt during foul shots. Again, with the spotty stat tracking of the time, you'll have to rely on witnesses.
The player in the video game did Ken’s hurricane kick from street fighter 😂
Lol
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have Wilt Chamberlain who fouled out a game... 0 times in his career. Not once.
Jamal Crawford also has zero regular season foul outs
If it's gonna be the opposite end, it has to be no foul outs and the least fouls given, right? So does Wilt still claim the prize?
@tater puddin that makes no sense bro
Tater Puddin huh.
This was intentional. Wilt had a streak and stopped contesting shots when he got to his 4th or 5th foul. Bill Simmons rips him for it in is book of basketball.
The Hack-a-Shaq could be prevented if Basketball, like Hockey, required the infracted team to touch the ball (or puck) before a penalty is awarded. This would allow the fouled team to complete their possession, and potentially score some points, before taking their free-throws.
Between no goalie to pull, the sheer difficulty of touching a ball being possessed by another team who isn't being aggressive with it, and the concept of shooting fouls, I'm not sure that works. Instead, I'd say either just have declinable fouls ("No, please let us just inbound the ball with the amount of time left on the shot clock please") or have the refs assign an additional penalty for intentional fouls.
Simple.
1. Walk up to ref
2. Punch ref
3. Profit

Jesus H. Christ. Rodman had 27 rebounds. He deserves the quote: "Batman, Superman, Rodman."
Please never change how you make these videos, this is one of the few channels I don't instantly cringe at
I love your elementary explanation of a foul, sad to say but its so simple that its brilliant
Whenever Lewis Hamilton passes Schumacher for career victories, a High Score episode should be done on that.
Alternatively, a High Score on career DNFs or pole positions could be fun!
Sometimes I like to think of Draymond Green as a watered down Dennis Rodman
It's probably easier to foul out quickly in today's NBA since dudes get technicals for just looking at opposing players too aggressively.
Technicals don't count as regular fouls though. You can get ejected without fouling out.
Technicals are separate for the purposes of this video. You could technically get ejected with technical fouls in the first second of a game.
The 16 lowest NBA seasons for average personal fouls all occur in the 2000s.
@@christopheraustin1173 And players have gotten ejected while on the bench, so it'd be even quicker than this. They'd have a 0 minute ejection.
@@imightbebiased9311 Well yes, player time. I just meant game time in general. I'm not sure whether or not you can receive a technical before the start of the game, so "within the first minute" of game time is to what I was referring to. Sorry for not being clear.
KJ McDaniels 5 fouls in 9 seconds is worth mentioning
5 fouls in 9 seconds and he decides against an instant 6th for the record!?!
Another fun Don Nelson story. Through a mutual connection I found myself in a group Don Nelson brought to his office for a tour. He asked me what size shoe I wore. When I said 10 he paused for a moment before rummaging behind his desk. He came back with a box of Dirk's shoes (yes, he has his own shoes) and a pair of Yi Jianlian's shoes (you bet your ass he has his own shoes too) then Nelson said, "you'll grow into them."
They were size 18s. I was already 19 years old, I wasn't growing anymore
These new videos are so interesting that I can say Jon Bois in getting replaced in my heart
I just love the strategy of "give the opposition player a tender hug so that their team don't get the points" it's so cute and evil ate the same time, like the world's most devious care bear.
This is a great new show. Hope it continues. SBN content continues to be on point.
i think when wells went into the game, he probably told Rodman "hey man, imma be fouling you cause my coach told me to, no hard feelings, lets get a beer later"
These videos are dope. I like the nba ones, but this host is always good. You all are always good.
Bubba wells went to the college near me and is listed as a significant player who came from the school for this achievement
"What's that guy famous for?" "He shoved Dennis Rodman seven times."
The only irritating part of this is that the nba announcer thought holding is a 10 yard penalty

Someone should do "the creation of SB nation deserves a deep rewind"
Eric Silver and then the creation of the creation of SB nation rewind needs a deeps rewind
This turned out prophetic
You guys do such great and interesting stuff! ... the animations are hilarious
This is such a cool series. Keep em coming!
Prime candidate to try and break the record on (as in player getting fouled) has to be Ben Simmons right?
Primary ball handler who struggles at the line?
Hold up. 27 rebounds in one game! I knew he was a good rebounder but I guess I never realized how great he was at it. Do a high score for most rebounds in one game!
wilt had 55
rodman is about one inch taller than MJ. but still outrebound robinson, shaq, mourning, and many other great bigman for 7 straight years. even goes as far as having 0 point and 20 rebound.
haven't watched the video yet but as a rockets fan im thinking KJ McDaniels will be mentioned
KJ stopped at 5. coward.
@@TheTwoPhillips i forgot about that! dang it.
@@TheTwoPhillips why you called him a coward

This series is fantastic.
Man, Bubba could've had sub-3 with better ref rng. Hate to see a solid run lose out to luck.
Gotta do the Wilt episode! Y'all need a GOAT series
Rewinder on Carlton Fisk's walk-off in Game 6 of the '75 World Series??
I wish yall brought this back
He was literally chasing the player he was told to foul. That's hysterical.
So excited for this series
Are the real pictures all pixelated cause it's the theme or am I tripping
You get my like for the fantastically funny intro... and the rest of the video ofcourse.
After 6 fouls the refs sends the player away, there’s a muffled bang from the locker room and your parents tell you your favorite player was sent to a special farm with your dog and 5 goldfish
Nelson got the "Point Forward " concept from Auerbach.
Saw the video immediately thought McDaniels lol
I have a fun nba rule regarding fouls that most people don’t know. There must be 5 players on the court in the nba. So if the entire team fouls to the point only 5 players are left and one of those five foul out all five stay on the court and every foul past that point is a technical foul and there is no limits to these technicals unless that player gets ejected and then it goes down the bench in the order of who fouled last. I have never seen it used.
I think one of the reasons why "hack a whomever" can fail is that if you are doing it all at the same time in a given period of the game, the player who you are hacking is more warmed up to make free throws and can easily get into a rhythm and knock down more than his expected chance would assume. So it would be better to spread it out over the course of a game and not all at the same time.
A more advanced "hack a whomever" could be something like if you see James Harden or another prominent scorer beat someone off the dribble, you know that he is probably gonna get fouled (which for james harden is almost a free 2 points), hit a guy for an open 3, or make an easy layup. So if you have players who can react to this quickly, have them foul a poor free throw shooter off ball because when a player beats someone off the dribble their expected points for that possession skyrockets. So you are denying them that advantage by fouling a poor free throw shooter before that player has a chance to score. This only works if you have players react quickly because if you foul after the player shoots then they will get an extra possession which is awful.
Bubba Wells for the Hall of Fame! Lol! Really great and funny video!
SB Nation should do a rewinder on Kerry woods 20 strike-out game as a rookie
Plz make this a series
“As long as horrible free throw shooters exist”

Man steve nash being in this group was extremely unexpected.
Loved this especially Atari basketball graphics at the end. Don Nelson was a great coach in Milwaukee, and one of the many good coaches forced out by an idiot owner. Herb Kohl saved the Buck from moving to the pre Timberwolves Minnesota. The Bucks were always good from 69’ to 86’ when Herb Kohl bought them they won 12 division titles including 7 straight and after he bought the team they won 1 title in 30 years. Worst meddling owner all time.
High school game, almost 50 years ago: My high school is playing the State Champion from the year before on our home court. Both small schools. We start two guys over six foot. They go nine deep before they run out of six footers, including a bloke that has game and runs six foot ten. So, the coach puts my five six buddy in to guard Mr. All State. Buddy is starting middle line backer on the football team, and plays round ball in the same style...Maybe 75 seconds later of game clock, friend is on the wrong end of the bench again having used up his five fouls on the big guy already. Looked like a gnat bothering a piece of fruit. Big guy hit most of those free throws too. (big guy hit just about every thing he ever launched at the basket if truth be told). This game also included a ref calling a 3 second violation on the visiting time when they were on defense. Think about it. These refs were real homers. Our Athletic Director (home team's not the team that got the dumb call) called time out, fired those refs, and the game continued with the refs from the JV game. Strange night. We still lost something like 99-48, but were the only league team to hold them under 100 points in a game that year.
The good ol’ days of homer refs. There still seldomly around but not even near what use to be.
cdjhyoung I don’t get it. Isn’t a 3 second on either side?
Shaq said he used to do it on purpose when he got outta breath💀
been a knicks fan since ewing and larry Johnson....the minute the video started I was waiting for the "great" Kurt Thomas to make an appearance 😂🤣 4:12
Before watching this video, I was reading an article about how Don Nelson has been recently smoking weed with Willie Nelson.
Wasn't Nelson the coach of the run and gun Warriors? Was that the same team that had Run TMC?
USC center Victor Uyaelunmo fouled out in 3 minutes off the bench against UCLA this year in a truly awe inspiring performance

Part of the problem with that plan is that Rodman got to shoot many ft's in too short a period of time, getting better as he shot
Does it count if you get a flagrant 2?
