Cracking topic, this one!! You got some in there I share in agreement with, SWIV, Toki, Tekken 2. Some others are Double Dragon on GBA, Bubble Bobble on Sega Saturn I prefer than on arcade, Combat School on C64 I actually find myself playing more than arcade, Salamander on C64 I prefer than arcade (other than graphics, but everything else I think the C64 eclipses), and Bionic Commando I also agree but I actually love the C64 version of that, absolutely blinding conversion. But great, great topic man, I love this one!

It’s great watching these comparisons. My parents saved up for computers because I taught myself programming but I didn’t have enough money to play games in the arcades. I spent time watching others. I guess not much has changed as I watch you playing these games!
I do have fond memories of playing silkworm on the Amiga, thanks to either cracking groups or xcopy! Trading disks with friends, awesome memories.

I'll go with Rainbow Islands and Rod Land on the C64: I know, they are minor games (especially the latter) but I have always loved that style of platformers and I think that, while technically inferior and missing some content, they have tighter controls and less cheap AI on the breadbin than in the original version. Also, Double Dragon III is a smoother and much better on the Amiga (and even the C64) than the arcade version (but that wasn't difficult as DD3 is one of the choppiest arcade games ever!)

I just had an idea, for objectivities sake, would it be possible to stack the home vs arcade versions side by side splitscreen? that way, when there are objective technical disparities between the two, you can at least specify why you prefer that version even if it has assets that are redone to fit within a systems capabilities.

I partially agree with you on Contra. However, Super Contra on the arcade wasnt even a finished product (but was released anyways). The NES version is actually complete, with a few levels that werent on the arcade.
I admit though, its tough to suggest this change, as I (and probably most people here) played the NES version first. The graphics and sound are still top notch on the arcade (the YM 2151 sound chip doesnt get the credit it deserves), but even with the graphics gutted and the sound gutted, the NES version still outshines the arcade.

Some good picks there, but whether they can be said to be objectively better requires criteria parsing, for example, the way a coin-op flows is designed to generate maximum 'flow state' sensory pleasure, hence the term "coin guzzler" while it can be said that console/computer adaptations can achieve criteria that may be more satisfying from a purchase context, but they really are 'apples and oranges'
