Interesting how the unfinished Circuit Theme at the 4 minute mark sounds a bit more like the one in 8/8DX. I wonder if the composer for it in those games heard this version and decided to base it on this instead. Also I love how the build at the show on the 20 sec mark used a more animated title screen and remixed music from MK64 there and in the menus. Too bad not much of the early Ribbon Road theme could be heard due to the double thunder
So, this is where the origin of the GBA Mario Circuit music remake came from as a retro track after discovering they used the beta version of it for Mario Kart 8. 4:03
definitely just Mario Circuit. Ribbon Road doesn't sound like the same composition here (albeit we only hear like a second of it) and Riverside Park just sounds less polished here.
I love how some of this game's beta versions were basically like a GBA version of Mario Kart 64. Also, Super Monkey Ball Jr. is proof that the GBA hardware could've (somewhat) handled 3-dimensional levels of movement, thus making me wonder why Mario Kart didn't do it. My guess would be... that it had to involve having 8 drivers/racers on the track at once, alongside with items, which probably exceeded their technical limitations, that's if there is any reason for it.
they were BUGGING with that bobblehead idea, the character portraits on the side look nasty too just look at yoshi at 0:10. Everything about this just looks weird, the forward facing mario at 0:15 has absolutely cracked out eyes It's also kinda interesting that the icon for the boo item was literally just a regular bed sheet ghost and it stayed super late into development
Educated guess is Mirror, the game at this stage seems much closer to Mario Kart 64, even using the same theme music. So it's likely a Mirror Mode. Massive shame it never made it to the final release. I'd love to play this 64 inspired beta.

Ribbon Road was at key C, and sounded more like something from Wii Tanks. (a battle march if you don't understand)
@Mimimax IKR! I was frustrated because of that
Curiously enough, this early Ribbon Road version seems to be in the same key as the MK8 remix
that is in fact the Circuit theme that ended up being used in Mario Kart 8
That's because the 8 version of the theme used the Beta version as a base that it remixes
The GBA still impresses me, such an intriguing system.
Couldn't say so better myself.

It sounds like the entire prototype Super Circuit OST was remixed for MK8 & MK8DX. I noticed this for Ribbon Road, Mario Circuit & Riverside Park!

@@ChilliusVGM If you listen closely, Bowser Castle as well has some notes that are off
It’s a shame so little of Super Circuit’s beta is available to the public; there seems to be a lot of interesting things that got cut.
At least MK8 remixed the Proto theme for GBA Mario Circuit
They did something similar with DS Wario Stadium/ Waluigi Pinball

0:18 This is really obvious in moments like this, when we hear MK64's title remixed, and then other themes like menu and course intro
It's good to remember that Monkey Ball Jr was quite laggy, enough to warrant a hidden low-res mode.
SMB JR came out later on during the GBA's life, so they knew the hardware better.
I want to hear more of the beta Ribbon Road music
Welp. Thank GOD the original character models didn’t make the final cut. Terrifying.
It's like they tried making paper mario designs into 3D models
0:00 it's big brain time - Markiplier

imagine a world where they kept the giant head idea lmao
Seeing it about a minute in, but they are showing the game on a SONY tv. I love it
Super circuit is like the least interesting Mario kart to revisit playing, but to learn about the betas and early concepts is so interesting
0:00 Bro, Mario head is too big
0:16 What? Mario's Face?!?!??!
4:02
0:13 That Mario face
They used so much from MK64
Do you have a source for the clip from 6:04 to 8:31? Been looking for it.
probably so, I'd have to look into my archives again but I could find it without much trouble if you'd like
Why did they take the Mario Kart 64 title screen music it sounds so good with the GBA soundfont why Nintendo??? 😡 😡 😡 😡 🤬🤬 🤬 🤬
It sounds a lot like Mario Kart 64 lol
Whats the fourth mode at 0:37?

@@buivars it's either that, or a 2p Grand Prix mode through Link Cable.
the bottom one has letters.
you can make out something.
most likely mirror mode
Or maybe 200cc
It's mirror mode but, if you notice, it starts with and "S", so it's "specular mode"
I like to called Mario kart advance because super circuit doesn’t make any sense at make that name 🙁
