We have had one of these for years. Only issue was the temperature of the water. When I measured it the temp was below the proper brewing temperature to extract all the flavour out of the coffee. So what I did was open up the bottom (security screws) and find the sensor which controlled the on/off for the heater. I loosened it a bit and then put back together. This meant the heater element for the water would turn off only when hotter. After testing it is now at the right temp to brew proper coffee without it tasting weak. A friend of mine has the same machine and same issue. I did his about 2 months after doing mine and he is quite pleased as well. It appears, when this machine is made, they have the sensor very tightly held against the heating ring and as a result it does not let the water get hot enough before turning off the heating element. It makes a great cup of coffee now without being bitter etc. Temp of the water is now 196 F when contacting the coffee grounds.

Just wanted to point out that Nespresso brand pods are actually aluminium and they do the podback scheme where you can drop them off or have them picked up from your doorstep for recycling. It tends to be the other brands that make compatible pods which use plastic or the supposedly compostible ones. You can also get refillable metal pods to put your own coffee into, which totally eliminates the need to send them off for recycling. Probably not of use to yourselves as you went the filter route but thought I'd mention for anyone who is still considering nespresso :)

I had just purchased this same machine & found this more helpful than the basic instructions that came with it.

Ours is still going strong and we brew daily. The only thing that we've learnt is that the machine does require regular (every week) cleaning of the "tunnel" between the grinder and coffee chute. We may make a video explaining this as it's not very clear in the manual.
