Yeah, I remember flying out while sipping champagne in business class on the world's longest flight round trip from NYC to Singapore on a Singapore airlines A350 for a week long meeting with the client, where I stayed in a beautiful hotel with infinity pool. However, I also remember I had to fly out on Sunday morning, in order to make the start of a three day workshop by 7 am local Singapore time Tues. I also remember working for several hours that Sunday, on the flight, to get add'l content done that my manager requested on Saturday. I also remember being 12 hours jet lagged, yet running a 12 hour work shop each day with client dinners each night and team "debriefs" after that, with only 3 hours of sleep since it takes time for the body to adjust. So, yes, I had a few Michelin star dinners while I was in Singapore, I also got to fly business on one of the world's best airlines, and I got to stay in a nice hotel that supposedly had a nice pool I had no time to use, and I drank champagne while miserably staring at the laptop screen on a flight. What I didn't experience was a proper weekend, rest, and a motivation to do it all again (though I did, over and over, in my 4 years at another MBB). Worth it? Not at all.
Ouch, thanks for sharing your experience. MBB & consulting seems to be just so "prestigious" & a big got to for MBA grads. Your relevation is very eye opening. What was your exit from MBB?
