I've just did the mod. it works perfect. thanks for the video's info. the only difference is that i've sacrificed the right of the red buttons. Specificaly i wired the R105 capacitor with the base pcb route. Thanks again mate.

For those of you having trouble with the hand brake side of this mod you either need to buy a used brake lever and bracket from a junk yard or make one yourself. If you buy a used brake make sure that the switch has two connections and is an open circuit with the brake off and a closed circuit when the brake is applied.
XInfinity2013 its called supply and demand. If not many people are buying they wont make as many. If many people are buying they will much more of the product.
the problem about custom orders is, that: lkets expect we need at least 3 plastic molded parts. Thats one Tool for every plastic part. One Tool to injection mold it, costs about 10.000 to 30.000 Euros. If only 1000 out of the world would demand one handbrake, it would be a total cost per handbrake of about 90€ Injenction molding + 1€ of plastiv costs + developement + marketing and shit. I dont know its kind of heavy
Wanted to comment again, thank you SO much for this video, in combination with the walk-through article I found on your site. I was able to crack open my g27 shifter and wire up an external e brake really easily. You are a sir.
Using a soldering iron with a fine tip, I've .. half succeeded to repair my shifter. I did succeed to put back the resistors, but the buttons are still very sensitive. On the other hand, the handbrake works like a charm. Thanks for the tutorial Chilicoke :)
Just did this for my G25 using an old skyline EBrake and used RCA plugs, works perfectly! Thanks for the solder points.. this was the only thing holding me up!!
Just finished up this mod last night. What an excellent tut! I haven't soldered in a while, so I practiced on an old PCI card (I recommend others do the same. The R94 resister is pretty tinny). I have a friend pulling a handbrake from his Eclipse parts car. It also uses an On while Up sensor (as do most cars). Thanks again Chilicoke, your work is excellent and tut's much appreciated! I'll post a vid comment once my rig is fixed with the ebrake addition :)
Okey heres few tips to do this right. First R94 component is called resistor. Its surface mounted element and you really dont want to disturb it if all possible and even less to heat it too much. Best way is to strip the wire for few mm, solder the wire using flux. Put your PCB board top of something like tape roll and hold it down with weight of pliers. Spread flux over the resistor, then heat your wire with your soldering iron. Place the wires end to end of the resistor, while holding wire close to PCB, rather quickly slide iron towards the resistor moving a little bit of solder there due surface tension, but not past the middle of the resistor, back up towards wire and lift the iron out. Flux helps to pull majority of the heat, protecting small components and you dont want any solder to connect resistor ends, or resistor from moving/desoldering. Keep wire in place until solder stiffens. If you dont know what you are doing then leave this job to professionals. Soldering two wires like this should not cost in any pro shop more than 10$ if they are legit given how easy it is if you know what your are doing. To test the solder job just usi contact setting in multi meter to see if there is connection where you want and it has not connected anything wrong. Simply put there should only be one connection from solder point and rest should not have connection to that. I did this to friends G27 and he just reported it worked like a charm. Next i will be modding another friends G25.
when I go to use the hand break my wheel disconnects from my pc, I think I have a short but I’m not sure where to look for it.. I’m super new to this but feel like I’m super close
One thing you could do that would be a lot easier and less risky than this is when you start up GT5 pair up a dualshock 3 and hold the ps button and change it to player one, what that'll let you do is assign all the buttons on the controller to e-brake so you can just press anything on there within reach AND simultaneously use your G27 as well. If you can then find a way to ergonomically mount it onto your wheel/seating setup you could have a very oddly shaped but functional e brake device
He is talking about the button that represents the "O" button. Which is the right most black button. If you were to use any of the resistors next to the one that he uses it would change which button that will be connected to the switch on your real hand brake. BUT you will also have to assign the button in the game menu to the handbrake in the game. Eg:- Shift 2 uses R2 as the handbrake when the g27 is connected not the "O" button. So it’s personal choice.
I came here to see if my suspicion was correct, there must be SOMEONE who fucked up their expensive G27 by trying this, and blamed the uploader of the vid. Well, I was partially (very) right it seems...
@forbzy89 read my previous replies, loss of gears (especially when they are on the same side) is caused by not putting the shifter back correctly. Open it up again, check the orientation of the two potentiometer and make they both are pointed downwards as shown in the video and make sure no wires are getting caught/sandwiched between the casing.
Make sure the two potentiometer as shown at 3:36 (there are two, one on the right side and the other behind the shaft) are properly aligned pointed downward when you re-assemble your shifter.
You can use any gauge you want, if you want to snake the wire through where the stock wire goes you need quite a small wire. I think I used about 20AWG wire and it fits nicely. Of course, the smaller the wire the easier it is to maneuver it near the PCB as it's more flexible.
If you want to make a hand brake just get one at scrapyard, buy leobodnar joystick control (cheapest one) buy a potentiometer and stick it to the handbrake and u will have a USB handbrake separate device :)
Just a FYI to everybody, if you dont want to risk it like he's saying. Just do a clutch kick instead of needing to install an e-brake, although it would be badass.
@AntDX316 Mate in some cars the Hand brake isn't worth shit, in ALL cars it is mechanical true. Get a Brake assembly from the wreckers and fit it with a pot that drives a 555 Timer that actually pulses the button, ie you have just created a digital Brake input. The G25 and G27 SHOULD have been made with a channel available for a Hand Brake via a socket in the shifter for instance.
@AntDX316 In Australian Vehicles you can apply the Hand Brake at any speed, there may be design rules in the US like the Starter Lock in Manual trans cars that prevent this. The ONLY auxiliary brake in Australian market vehicles is a Mechanical Hand operated brake working on the rear axle only. No electronic or Computer interference, just the driver input. I don't know it it would lock the wheels but it would be better than no brakes at all. Sound like your "E-Brake" only works at low speed. **
just a little public service announcement because of all the comments i've seen on the forums about this sort of mod... if you don't know how to solder and handle PCBs properly (iron wattages, heating the element to be soldered rather than the solder itself, ESD, etc) then DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS YOURSELF. unless that is, you don't mind going out and buying a fresh wheel if you mess up.
It seems this mod went wrong for a lot of you guys. At least the video is correct, since I did this myself and it works perfectly for me. You probably have short-circuited something or fried the resistor if you get wheel resets. For those asking about how to connect the other end: Well, if you have a real car's handbrake you just put the wires to the brake light switch. If you're making a handbrake yourself, you should use a switch that closes when you pull up the brake and connect the wires.
this is easier on computer. you can have a seperate controller hooked up to the computer. then wire a pot to the L or R trigger, then set the corresponding button to handbrake. hook it up to a handbrake and u have a handbrake you can change the pressure on.
The only thing that was putting me off this was the fact that I assumed the circle would no longer function. Knowing it will makes me think I'll do this soon, and probably attach some form of 2 pin connector, so the ebreak can be disconnected easily.
Hey Chilli I thought about this and you still only have an ON / OFF feel BUT I used a Leo Bodnar's Load Cell and switch board (Runs my Touch Panel too.) and mapped the Handbrake to an Analogue axis and it is a TOTALLY different animal - MUCH more realistic.
I've found out what's going on. People, watch out: 1. The video is enlarged, actually the circuit board is very small, proper equipment and experience is a must to solder and not to damage resistor which is about 2mm in length. 2. Almost all the switches in e-brakes pulled from junk cars are "switch to ground". It's not gonna work, because the wires can't touch the ground (steel body of playseat). You gotta make different switch which is isolated from ground, just connecting two wires, nothing more...
The biggest issue I can see is that your still using a button ie digital input effectively to control the Hand Brake, unfortunately most driving Simulations do not allow for a variable analogue input like the Brake throttle or steering input. "Conner" just about any microswitch with an actuating arm will do the job for you as voltage and current are not an issue

@realhavoc1 If it triggers the wrong button even after in-game button remap that means you have a short circuit somewhere. This happened to me initially, turned out it was because my handbrake assembly was shorting out the shifter circuit through my metal cockpit.

It would be awesome if you didnt just tell us to use our creativity to short the wire considering some of us following your tutorial dont know what were doing. I followed your guide to the T and then hooked up the two wires to a micro switch ive had for a while. Every time i press the button the whole thing short circuits and circle is never even pressed. It would also be awesome if you responded to people comments. You havent written anything on youtube in over a month.

The setup of the gear panel of the G25 is a bit more complex than the one on the G27 so how easy is it going to be to install the hand brake on the G27.
I FUCKED UP! first time round my wheel kept resetting. I resoldered twice but the "o" was burnt. I ordered a new pcb from ebay, but then i tried again with better knowledge on the "x" connection. I confirm it WORKS on PC!!!!!! But be super careful not to bridge the resistor(s). Message me if you need help. Solder on ONE side of the resistor (written 103 on it). Do NOT solder over the whole thing. You're welcome. Pm me if needed
right, if you solder on the whole resistor, it won't work. you need to look at it almost with a magnifying glass.. You need to see that the tiny place you need to solder is on one side (shown in video) of the tiny shiny metal object that is called a resistor, i'ts written 103 on it (aka 10 000; 10 with three zeros). In essence, all you need to remember is to solder on only one side of it and you must not bridge the resistor by putting too much soldering over the resistor/sides of the resistor... If you already did do that, well--> Then you need to try and remove the soldering from on it, then test it on a pc or console. This resistor is heat sensitive, and if you don't have the right tools and a tiny gauge of your filler metal (solder). If you can't take the soldering off.. then you can't buy a new PCB (printed circuit board) on eBay for around 20$ shipped. I ordered a spare.. Or you can buy a whole shifter for cheap. Hope this helps, I'm sorry for the length of this text, heheeh. Peace ouuut
I did something much more simple. I almost don't use the shifter so i became it to hand brake by changing the hand brake button to 4 gear and replace the stick for something more comfortable And I reinforced it with elastic rubber (I switche gears with wheel switchers.) It's work perfectly 😎😎😎💪
dude its any handbrake that has switch like this of what he is showing.... like the handbrake has a wire that completes a circuit letting the Parking light emit light.... well in anycase its a button.... so you have a handbrake... you check and see if the parkingt light sign in the car is emmitted by a circuit madeby having a switch effect..... its simple... any handbrake that has a simple switch for the parking light to go on... and thats what triggers the handbrake button....

@AntDX316 ** or were you saying that in the US there is both an "E-Brake" as you call it as well as a Hand Brake ?? As I said the Hand Brake in Australia is mechanical and can be applied at ANY time but at higher speed is far less effective BUT depending on the system could be locked up at reasonable speed. In most cars the Handbrake is paralleled with the Hydraulic brake, if the brakes are adjusted tightly then a rear wheel lockup at speed is entirely possible. Not nice to say the least.

what about the actual handbrake? im guessing you've just put in a pressure sensitive switch with some travel to allow the handbrake to move (be pulled up) ??

I did this mod but after a few rounds somehow the circle button stopped working altogether (playing GT5), yet during any driving sequence the handbrake will still work if pull it up....If I press the circle button it also acts like ebrake during any driving session, but in menus the circle button is disabled by this mod. What do you think has gone wrong? Not like I can't just pick up the sixaxis but just curious.

@chilicoke cheers, yes its a bit of a risk, and the risks are getting bigger and bigger as build quality go's down on things. although my g27 seems ok, with products from the80's still working brand new but the same brand same thing from 2005 shits its self after 3 years, its getting harder and harder to pick. how do you feel about shipping to aus?
Also If you have no experience with Soldering DON’T DO THIS!!! As you can kill it with too much heat. Personal I looked at this and didn’t do it. I already put a big steering wheel on my G27 so instead I connected my real handbrake switch to one of the buttons on the steering wheel. It is easy as you can just parallel into the wires No soldering just some cutters, wire and connecters.
Why doesn't the G27 come with the rotary switch to switch between H and up/down? Are there any pros to using the G25 over the G27 shifter; how about cons?

That Switch has connections for a normal open or closed circuits and can be used in many applications. Hope that helps.

The biggest issue I can see is that your still using a button ie digital input effectively to control the Hand Brake, unfortunately most driving Simulations do not allow for a variable analogue input like the Brake throttle or steering input.
"Conner" just about any microswitch with an actuating arm will do the job for you as voltage and current are not an issue

(DO NOT USE brake switches have only one connection they typical ground the circuit when the brake is applied which is not good) Here is a switch that I have used from Radio Shack many times: SPDT switch with ¾” roller lever model: 275-017 Catalog # 275-017.

@realhavoc1 If it triggers the wrong button even after in-game button remap that means you have a short circuit somewhere. This happened to me initially, turned out it was because my handbrake assembly was shorting out the shifter circuit through my metal cockpit.
@AntDX316 You have GOT to be kidding your eBrake and what we call a Hand or Parking brake can be applied at ANY time.
That e-brake it's the more realistic one that i saw so far

It would be awesome if you didnt just tell us to use our creativity to short the wire considering some of us following your tutorial dont know what were doing. I followed your guide to the T and then hooked up the two wires to a micro switch ive had for a while. Every time i press the button the whole thing short circuits and circle is never even pressed. It would also be awesome if you responded to people comments. You havent written anything on youtube in over a month.

@zenzock Yes, make sure the you soldered the right side of the resistors, If it crosses over that button will reset the wheel.
The setup of the gear panel of the G25 is a bit more complex than the one on the G27 so how easy is it going to be to install the hand brake on the G27.

@tdragon360 considering all your doing is pressing the circle button, you cant control it like a trigger so its either, 100% on or off.

I FUCKED UP! first time round my wheel kept resetting. I resoldered twice but the "o" was burnt. I ordered a new pcb from ebay, but then i tried again with better knowledge on the "x" connection. I confirm it WORKS on PC!!!!!! But be super careful not to bridge the resistor(s). Message me if you need help. Solder on ONE side of the resistor (written 103 on it). Do NOT solder over the whole thing.

right, if you solder on the whole resistor, it won't work. you need to look at it almost with a magnifying glass.. You need to see that the tiny place you need to solder is on one side (shown in video) of the tiny shiny metal object that is called a resistor, i'ts written 103 on it (aka 10 000; 10 with three zeros). In essence, all you need to remember is to solder on only one side of it and you must not bridge the resistor by putting too much soldering over the resistor/sides of the resistor... If you already did do that, well--> Then you need to try and remove the soldering from on it, then test it on a pc or console. This resistor is heat sensitive, and if you don't have the right tools and a tiny gauge of your filler metal (solder). If you can't take the soldering off.. then you can't buy a new PCB (printed circuit board) on eBay for around 20$ shipped. I ordered a spare.. Or you can buy a whole shifter for cheap. Hope this helps, I'm sorry for the length of this text, heheeh. Peace ouuut

I did something much more simple. I almost don't use the shifter so i became it to hand brake by changing the hand brake button to 4 gear and replace the stick for something more comfortable And I reinforced it with elastic rubber
(I switche gears with wheel switchers.) It's work perfectly 😎😎😎💪
dude its any handbrake that has switch like this of what he is showing.... like the handbrake has a wire that completes a circuit letting the Parking light emit light.... well in anycase its a button.... so you have a handbrake... you check and see if the parkingt light sign in the car is emmitted by a circuit madeby having a switch effect..... its simple... any handbrake that has a simple switch for the parking light to go on... and thats what triggers the handbrake button....

@AntDX316 ** or were you saying that in the US there is both an "E-Brake" as you call it as well as a Hand Brake ?? As I said the Hand Brake in Australia is mechanical and can be applied at ANY time but at higher speed is far less effective BUT depending on the system could be locked up at reasonable speed.
In most cars the Handbrake is paralleled with the Hydraulic brake, if the brakes are adjusted tightly then a rear wheel lockup at speed is entirely possible. Not nice to say the least.

Awesome! Have you seen a schematic of the G25 shifter buttons anywhere? I'd like to use more than 1 button but don't know where to solder for the x, square, triangle and d-pad buttons.
I have a thrustmaster shifter and don't use the G25 shifter so I thought I could mod G25 shifter as a button box and use it's 12 buttons for custom stuff like push buttons.

I did this mod but after a few rounds somehow the circle button stopped working altogether (playing GT5), yet during any driving sequence the handbrake will still work if pull it up....If I press the circle button it also acts like ebrake during any driving session, but in menus the circle button is disabled by this mod.
What do you think has gone wrong? Not like I can't just pick up the sixaxis but just curious.
@fergus1494 Don't quote me on this, but If you believe you can reverse the mods I don't see why not. Again, please understand the risk of voiding warranty before doing any mods to your wheel.

Which button is r94 when you wire it up? Which button on the shifter activates that certain connection?
turns my wheel off when i pull the handbrake what did i do wrong? also burnt off one of my resistors but all the buttons and everything still seem to work.
The professional that did mine stripped the coating and soldered along the lead.
this cam up completely random, but very nice maybe I'll try this one day.
@chilicoke cheers, yes its a bit of a risk, and the risks are getting bigger and bigger as build quality go's down on things. although my g27 seems ok, with products from the80's still working brand new but the same brand same thing from 2005 shits its self after 3 years, its getting harder and harder to pick. how do you feel about shipping to aus?
Also If you have no experience with Soldering DON’T DO THIS!!! As you can kill it with too much heat. Personal I looked at this and didn’t do it. I already put a big steering wheel on my G27 so instead I connected my real handbrake switch to one of the buttons on the steering wheel. It is easy as you can just parallel into the wires No soldering just some cutters, wire and connecters.
