- Make this USB controlled handbrake for Drift, Rally and Racing simulator games. USB can be used in combination with any steering wheel Logitech G27 G29 G920, Thrust master or Fanatec
This handbrake is designed to have a small foot print, be easy to setup and pack away when not in use. No modification is need to the original gaming unit when using the USB version of the Handbrake.
There are 2 ways to wire the handbrake, direct to the gaming controller. Or using the PCB of a spare keyboard or interface.
The PCB from the keyboard can be used to control many switches or buttons. Each keystroke can be mapped to control many in game features.
There is a lot of information in this short video. Please ask any question about the design, build or parts used.

Wanna make me one an I'll pay and for postage I'm dumb
Do I need a pc for the PCB wiring??
can you list all the components please ?, and I did not understand how to connect it I have a Logitech g29 can you explain me better? thank you
Please .. just pleeeeaseee answer if it's working on ps4
@@myzee7259 if you use choose the direct in g29 controller wiring its work
Love it... finally someone taking steps to stop selling those ultra expensive PC racing accessories !
Thanks +Mohsinwa
amstudio where did you get the switch and Spring ect also would you consider selling them ??
amstudio just wanted to say a big thank you. Used this video along with your g29 disassembly video to make my own handbrake. its awesome running my ps 4 with a bolt on handbrake and especially with psvr it feel like next generation gaming. Thanks again
01:11 Lmao nice music finger-sync
NGL that was fite
you can literally sell these things! nice job!
Sell me one for like 20 i cant find any part for this locally but wood nuts and bolt
Horse Power yea i have the same problem
try to see my video, with only 15€ I do it something and work
shut up and take my money
Id honestly pay for one, sucks logitech doesn't make one
1:05 I was half expecting howtobasic to randomly come in to start throwing plates at the tubing
This made my life 100x easier now after searching for years after something easy like this! Thanks bro!
Thank you very much for this tutorial! I've made this handbrake at home and I love it! Been struggling for a few days to find some parts in our little city, but it was worth it. Already making some gameplays with it 💪
Can't wait for DIY Wheels, Pedals and shifter nobs !
Those already exist lol
beeza copper would you kindly tell me which the best video about how to diy these things pls? appreciate
Not sure about videos but there are a lot of forum posts. For steering wheels search for OSW or direct drive steering wheels, pedals its best to search DIY hydraulic pedals
beeza copper Thank you..i made some research for osw, but its too expensive for my pocket xD. Maybe you can help me. i have some cheap driving wheel, it use potentiometer so basically no force feedback (but not a problem for me lol ).. what I want to do, is to make this wheel rotate 720 degree just like the common drive wheel.. what can i do? can i just change the potentiometer that has 720 degree turn?
great tutorial, I've been searching for something like. the result is amazing, looks factory :)
Sir Bhima yea defenitely looks factory
Smow Alarmmacher except forthe hideous keyboard pcb exposed.. could have covered it with a wood box and then it would look factory
what kind of button is it?
Sigurd nielsen any momentary button will work.. as long as it momentary ON.
I believe the one he used is a SPDT changeover switch, you can wire it to be either open and closed with the button press or closed and opened with the button press.
Why don't you make these and sell them? I'd happily pay 20-30 pounds for this.
I think the same haha
Me 2
That's what I'm thinking too

Looks simple to build (well, kinda of) and looks so professional. I wanna try making this!
Had to ghetto up this setup for my desk but the PCB and switch totally worked, fantastic video :D
How do you do the switch keyboard thing I can’t get it
best tutorial i seen for something like this to date.
You could put a spring on each side of the upright of the handle. Remove the spring at the bottom and have an actuator on top and bottom of the bottom part of the handle and make it a sequential shifter
Yep, just needs another switch and you are ready to shift.
simple yet elegant, great job!
This is a truly fantastic presentation of a fairly simple mod!
Much appreciated.
Thanks
Cool idea. A USB joystick works well too, found one at Goodwill for around 2 dollars and it works great as an e brake
Awesome tutorial! :D
I was wondering about the electronics, that was really smart man!
Awesome tutorial, will definately try this. hopefully without burning the house down!
Always used TH8 shifter on sequential mode as a handbrake till now.
Great stuff bud . I use an old flight joystick , so I can have analog input on the E-break .
But what you have created is elegant! Going to share with all my friends who are looking for handbrake solutions
Thanks!
how does this work my old handbrake broke and i would like to fix it with a new pcb but idk how to make analog input instead of a button
Does a flight joystick work as a handbrake on console?
@@ari_seidel if it shows up as a Joystick in the Windows devices and stuff or in game then yes it can be used as Handbrake by configuring it in the game settings for controls
awesome tutorial! i'd love to know the measurements of the wooden plate where you mounted all the parts on though :)
Thanks for the video. Wish I saw this through lockdown would have loved to give it a go with the spare time
thank you so much for your effort in this video it helped me specifically the wiring part of it
okay at least i am not the only one that plays assetto corsa with the headlights open just because the dash looks better :D
Dude, if u sell this i will buy this. high quality man
Good job, works first time, easy to follow! thanks
thank you! this is the best tutorial I've seen while looking for the past year. legend!
Thanks Jarrad!
nice i dont necessarily like the short travle but i know how to modify the design to make mine how i like it thank you
Thanks! Just finished making mine, need to find a stiffer spring but otherwise it works like a charm 🤘 also made a mount for playseat
Hey dude do u know if this works on Xbox one's I used the old keyboard method to make mine but no matter how hard I try I cannot map it to the handbrake on Forza
such a awesome job there, thanks for the tutorial!
This one for sure i'll make! Your videos make it simple and easy.
Nice DIY's mate thank you for sharing!
Thanks!
Nice Job! I think you should have the dimensions of elements with positions of screws in drawings (CAD),
This is amazing. i've been searching for this some time ago. Meine is a arcade joystick weld to a pc keyboard
That’s amazing! I’m totally making one!
Thanks for the help I'm halfway through mine. Got half a hacksaw for a handle and a much stronger spring with a more forgiving button and it feels great so far
Nice work!
That inspired me to make my own. Albeit made of wood and an old doorbell button to a Logitech precision USB controller.
aye thats pretty good idea!
i really have to make one like this and add some buttons for my sim racing.
great video btw, keep up the good work.
Thanks Isak
Thanks for the tutorial how long are the screws that you use? and whats that bit you put on the screw just after the spring.
You're the legend man, thanks!
wow very cool, thx, you can easily use this concept to make a sequential shifter
Been looking for 2hrs to find some one doing a build! Thanks for the video!!
Thanks!
amstudio how do you get the solder to stick to the black coating on the banks of the keyboard pcb
what kind of button is it?
R u on pc or console, if console can option 2 be used
I just use a 3D joystick for my handbrake. works perfectly fine in Asseto Corsa or Dirt rally! Love it!
me too, modded a hydraulic hand brake and added a joystick from an old controller to get more than just a keystroke, works perfectly in AC
change/fix the cord
Would i be able to use a joystick as a handbrake with a logitech g920?
josh .cutler on a pc - yes. just plug it in and tell the game to use the joystick as a handbrake (button assignment)
on a console? no idea if you can change buttons or anything like that. I've always seen pre sets.
maybe the rule strikes again:
"pc master race"
josh .cutler did u find anything to work on console for the g920
amazing....thanks for the tutorial and the decryption of the parts you used.....i will so it also
hi m8. i created one myself with your design in mind. i made a few improvisations like using a different switch and some other stuff. you inspired me to create this and it works perfectly. thanks.
Great video! Do you have any links to what and were you bought everything? Also do you have any blueprints for the holes that you made? Would be awesome to be able to print it out and copy it ^^
Nice setup
Thanks for making a really good vid on how to make a gear stick for gaming
Dope AF man..And excellent tutorial
kinda looks like you can make this into a Sequential Shifter as well
Wow, fantastic, but far beyond my ability to build :)
PCB DIY with no hot glue? Incredible!
Im not planing to do some of this great staff u make, couse i do not play race games but u got one more subscriber couse of ur great work. Cheers!!!
you should add a little hood for the movable parts end electronics to prevent spills and grime to mess upp this ingenious gadget!
Yeah a cover is a good idea!
Awesome guide. Would you consider doing an analog handbrake?
Thanks, if there is enough interest I will consider making a analog version.
An analog handbrake would be fantastic!
I think specially on Assetto Corsa. I don't know how it works while drifting. I don't like it, so I can't opine. But while driving rally cars, I feel the need a much more precise handbrake than just "On" "Off" with 100% force. That's why I think a analog handbrake would be nice.
use a 3D Joystick. So did I!
works fine! just set the deadzone up for some inverting and 53-100%
+Gean Gabriel, I have started looking into making the analog version. I can build a full custom analog hydraulic version and show the process but I believe this will become expensive.
So making a cheaper analog version with some off the shelf parts and minimal fabrication might be the way. What features and limits are you looking for in this design? for example - total cost, what games must it work on, amount of fabrication, ect. Thanks
cool and embarrassingly better than one i build. great job!
Fantastic idea, fantastic video. Thank you
nice but some dimensions and a part list would be nice, and where the heck do you buy the light stand on its own?
I had the light stand already from a broken led light. You can use any metal pole/handle just adapt the same concept using a pivot point and a spring return.
fair enough i guess thanks for the video!
amstudio THANK YOU SO MUCH!! THIS IS SIMPLE AND BEAUTIFUL. Now, my request is pls make video about how to make sequential shifter, based on this project.. appreciate!!
@@muhammadhabibie6620 same thing but another switch in the other direction
@@muhammadhabibie6620 if you want to make it a sequential shifter you can just put a switch below it as well.
THought that was a weird setup, then i remembered the left side of the road.
Your video and work is great !!!
Just made one like in the video and really works!
Good idea! ;-)
Thanks
It would be nice to make separate videos talking about every step and the wiring job
Chris Lee there was everything what u need to know :)
Interesting Video! Good Music Choice
Thank you man you are amzing!!
Why don't you sell these?
Hey nice handbrake, but i think better way is use potentiometer for smooth braking. I did mine few years ago from old joystick, I simply used potentiometer from one axis and gave it as pivot to my elementary handbrake. It worked very well. Your looks nice, like in race car ;)
Do you think a standard push on switch would work u seem to know what your talking about mate
@@lordofwar9431 A potentiometer gives you analog control and allows you to either brake hard or lesser like a real eBrake. A switch gives you either ON/OFF so either 100% braking on eBrake or none.
Potentiometer for finer braking like in a real car, switch if you want to do full braking or none
Thank you, very inspiring....well done 👍
nice you showed everything and this help me make my own
Can you sell it, how much 1 kit already assembled?
i would buy one
Nice and clean work ! Lovin it !
Thanks!
Nice thanks for the wiring diagram I wouldn't have figured it out btw this setup will work on lfs?
This is great. 3 questions though:
•Does it work on a PS4 (and what games if so)
•Where did you get the spring
•Can you buy a PCB on its own
Wired to a wheel button, it will work on console. You can find a spring at a hardware shop or on eBay. Yes you can buy a Joystick encoder(PC).
@@amstudioprojects will it work if you plug the usb straight into the ps4? or do you have to wire it to a button on the steering wheel?
I made my hand brake, but the problem came up, namely when I press the "u" button as a handbrake it straightens the front wheels. What can I do with this? Forza Horizon 4.
Forza is meant for controller, they dont support wheels and sim gear to its fullest. Try Assetto Corsa
awesome work, dude 🤘
Great Build~!
Is it works with Logitech Driving Force GT?
It works without a steering wheel, too. It's a full independent USB device. It doesn't need a wheel or anything to work.
Do these wheels provide any resistance? Or is it on a free hub?
Blackout TwiZt they have force feedback with soft locks. The Logitech gaming software allows you to change it if you want to disable resistance, reduce it, or change the amount of rotations the wheel can make(up to 900 degrees I believe).
You are the best my friend 👍
Nice table!
Knowledge is a wonderful.
Jack Hammer 😂
Jack Hammer top kek 2 u m8
Connect the handbrake to an arduino leonardo, then into the computer via USB
Why would that be better?
Easier and less damage on shit
Damage on what shit? And soldering the wires to any old keyboard would be almost free, if not completely free, and simpler as it won't require coding at all
How about calming yourself a bit? Say hi to Cornelia from me.. Swedish fuck
oh god... Staaahp. Of course this is a good option if someone hate soldering or is really bad at it. Also, some people dont have any spare keyboard to destroy...
Thank you for your video. I did mine two weeks ago.. Missed the handle and put the carbon fiber sticker on the tube .
Best video yet !!! Awesome !
Thank you, have fun building !
Will this work with my thrustmaster Ferrari 458 spider Xbox one wheel?
EB997 Jesse yes
Eduardo Seitz thanks
can u make tutorial for flight simulator
Why do you want a handbrake for a flight sim
This is awesome, great job, so gonna use the same technique to build a sequentail shifter as well.
Thanks +AndyPants550. Yes, I will be using a similar concept to build a sequential.
Hey nice build 👍🏽
Very Nice tutorial.
does this work also on ps4? anyway i subscribe
If you wired it into the pcb of the controller at whatever button activates the handbrake it would
spino hey jimmy
IF you make use of "Nyloc nuts" instead of the normal ones.. They won't come done that easy
great built!!!
thx man I learned a lot with your tutorial
your welcome!
Damn, I wish I found out about this channel before I sold my wheel
Can you do this to a wheel for Xbox one or PS4?
Yes, wired directly to the wheel is the option for those consoles.
amstudio Thank you very much!
You could also try finding a cheap wired controller that works for the system and wiring the handbrake to it.
Smart idea, I might give it a go. Thanks for the help!
Luke Aumuller have you solved it? What wired controller did you use?
Great tutorial!!!
Thanks, this is amazing. Is there any way you could provide plans even just a pattern/measurements where to drill holes and what not?
Does this work on Xbox one?
Please someone answer 😥😥😥
5:56 when she first time does it for you :D
cool I've been planning to make something like that for a helicopter collective, except I'll have to use a potentiometer, and mount the handle to it.
nice man! thumbs up for you. i also notice that you drive an bmw wich makes it extra nice :D haha
