He's on the attacking team as you can see in the killfeed. It will say "Stop the Payload" regardless of what team you're on. Besides, why would he and his team be attempting to stop the payload when they're behind it.

It was when I first started playing overwatch, I was playing Hanzo and as the enemies were pushing the Payload up the ramp area heading for the last spot on Route 66 I used my ultimate and killed 4 people, jumped down and headshot the Pharah then immediately scattered the tracer. I still remember my joy seeing that “Team kill” message display.
