Assassin's Creed is an open-world, action-adventure, and stealth game franchise published by Ubisoft and developed mainly by its studio Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine Anvil and its more advanced derivatives. Created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May, the Assassin's Creed video game series depicts a fictional millennia-old struggle between the Order of Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Knights Templar, who desire peace through order and control. The series features historical fiction, science fiction, and fictional characters intertwined with real-world historical events and historical figures. In most games, players control a historical Assassin while also playing as an Assassin Initiate or someone caught in the Assassin-Templar conflict in the present-day framing story. Considered a spiritual successor to the Prince of Persia series, Assassin's Creed took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, based on the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East.

The Homestead from Assassins Creed 3 had the most unique hideout upgrade system. Pretty much the other hideouts can be upgraded with money but the Homestead can be upgraded through playing missions where you meet and interact with civilians. Really gave that community feel the best of the hideouts. Though that one encyclopedia achievement where you have to scan the civilians each 3 times in different places and times of the day was painful.

    • @Willpolita

Exactly, upgrades released after secondary missions that were part of a context for upgrade, to improve the mine you had to do a mission to help the miner explode the mine more, so hunter help her how to hunt new animals, I remember q had a mission that a man needed the carpite's help to improve something. I found it incredible was all fluid and real, not just pay and that and it was improved

The Davenport Homestead feels most like a community where people live their lives, doing things for their own and each other’s survival and pleasure, and having interpersonal connections. Through the homestead missions you come to know them more richly than the average NPC because of the stories you see them go through and help them with.

I think a big factor you missed about Maysaf is the context. Its bustling with other Assassins and you are just another recruit which is awesome and unique. You are no-one special. It feels very alive and like it will go on with or without you. Couldn’t agree more with Davenport Homestead for being number one! Fitting to the Colonial American setting, completed with a an entire community that you can build up by helping the residents with Homestead Missions. Each particular homesteader provides your hideout with both economic and crafting resources, and the more you help them, the more their residence and services will grow. The Homesteaders are actual characters with unique personalities and developing stories/characters and you can see why Connor deeply cares for them and is always willing to help them out.
As much as Connor is a brooding protagonist, his interactions with his fellow homesteaders actually allow us to see him actually be at peace and happy. You feel the bond he built with these people, as if they were his family and they really bring your hideout to life. They’re not just NPCs that stand about, they actually have routines. Chores and tasks that show off their trade and craft that they provide to your homestead community. You actually bond with them and help them through hardship. Celebrate their happiness with them, from a child being born to two of them getting married. In a way, you feel so accomplished, you help band together these colonists who felt abused, lost, stricken with hardship. And gave them a home and a family that would provide for and protect one another.

With Ravensthorpe there are a lot of buildings to construct and cosmetic items to decorate the settlement with but I do think it's lacking in defenses. There are no guard towers except maybe if you put the lookout tower in the spot in front of the longhouse where a big tree can go (which I did for my settlement), no walls surrounding Ravensthorpe, and a lot of the buildings are for trading like growing crops and raising livestock while the only military buildings are the armory, the jomsviking hall, and the barracks. The cities in England, settlements like Soma's fort, the bandit camps, and the forts along the rivers have walls and guard towers yet Ravensthorpe doesn't. Not to mention the hills behind the longhouse offer an opportunity for enemies to observe the settlement and attack from behind. I'm surprised Ravensthorpe only gets attacked once in the whole game.

I would say that the AC syndicate one should be ranked higher because of the convenience of the train always moving, and making it much easier to access different parts of the city, the fact that it is probably the most hidden hideout (you are literally hiding in plain sight under starricks nose). And it makes more sense for the assasins to have a small well hidden hideout than a massive mansion, or huge manor.

What I like the most about Davenport homestead is that you know the people there and that makes the homestead so alive... at least if you do the homestead missions. 1st time around I got stuck and didn't find the homestead missions anymore. Turns out it was Morris that I missed the first time around. Kinda hidden away at the north of Boston.

What I like about fort arsenal is that it's very reactive. I've only really played the kenway games, and no other of them had guns and swords on a rack that actually change depending on what weapons you pick up. Plus, I like just hanging out around because it's also near your Templar HQ.

You also forgot that below Monteriggioni is the Auditore crypt, a nice detail as the crypt is officially designated in the game with an assassin’s tomb mark, usually reserved for one of the six assassin tomb’s necessary to unlock Alt’air’s legendary armor.

    1: Great Inagua
    2: The Steam Train
    3: The Galata Hideout

5: The Warehouse from AC: Liberation

FYI right now on steam Odyssey, Origins, and Unity are 80-85% off. I just picked up Odyssey ultimate edition which comes with AC3 remastered (which I had on old console but not PC), but I’ll probably pick up at least Unity too since I haven’t played that one either.

0:22 - 1:25 I received AC Rogue as a Christmas gift in 2014 just over month after it launched. I didn't progress very far, completing only the first sequence before abandoning the game. A year ago in September 2022 across the span of only three days (the 15th, 16th, and 17th), I went achievement hunting and ground out the game, getting every achievement except for those that were i.e. "do X amount of this". I travelled the entire map, 100% sequences, collected all collectibles, and I do not remember the building of Fort Arsenal. A fort, yes, a mansion, no.

My thing about masyaf castle is that it's a giant castle, you're not hiding you're just showboating and the architecture is strangely like the English buildings in acre, and with the knowledge gone it makes it clear that al Mualim is scared of altïar or anyone really knowing who he really is
I still love it as it's giant symbolism of how the brotherhood in 1 is just, Templars with hoods

I was really excited when I first see Fort Arsenal, it's a manor house inside an entire fort, I've always loved manors with fortifications and palace converted forts. But then I enter and the inside is just so meh, and if I remember correctly it doesn't even translate to the outside look well, like the inside windows and room placements are not aligned with the outside.

I feel like the one bad thing about how badly reviewed AC3 was is the loss of Hideout Upgrade stuffs. In AC4 I'd loved to have seen a combination of the systems of AC2 and 3, as most of the island isn't considered that important, and I always miss how much you could do in AC2. Beyond things in the mansion there were new places to explore as you upgraded the town, Statues to find in the town, the Wall of Assassin's Scrolls, and Ezio's sister to interact with. It feels like they tried to go too far with the crafting system in AC3, but I'd have liked to have more secrets on the island, and have more distant parts play a bigger role.
Like I'd have loved to see stuffs done with the Forts done from the other side. Instead of assaulting a Fort you defend one instead. Or you could get ahold if other ships, have them docked, and even take them out for yourself, but they maybe don't get upgrades, but have different abilities.

So imagine you've been captured. And they string you up in a closet.
You need to watch the blacksmith make a ludicrously complicated set of locks and keys, then you watched helplessly as your captor orders the 5 keys to distant islands.
