- Video of a rather enjoyable chase of Pacific National's 9149 North Geelong to Berriwillock empty grain on the 24th of September 2020, with XR553 and XR557 making their first revenue runs in approximately twelve months at the head of PN's second BG grain rake to enter service after reactivation.
I picked up the chase at Llanelly, catching the train at Inglewood, Kurting, Wedderburn Junction, Korong Vale, Charlton and Teddywaddy before finishing up with a shot of the train passing along Broadway, or the Calder Highway at Wycheproof and its' 700 metres of street running.
Trains seen in order are:
9149- XR553 and XR557

I can proudly state I've spent overnight at Wycheproof and used the local IGA shown. That's How The Locals Like It!
Great video!
Thank you. I'd almost think the town would be against the removal of the street running section here if that was ever planned- it's a huge tourist attraction when there's a special train running.
@@Greensleeves94 Good point to keep in mind if further Federal or State funding is ever found to complete standardisation from Gheringhap to Maryborough, and from Dunolly to Sea Lake/Manangatang. I agree as the town has long learnt to live with it: road speed limits are low in the centre of towns, and there's no recent record of an accident - touch wood - that one can recall. 'Whyche' has also put its name on the map with that oddball running race, so it has at least two points of distinctiveness in an area that has been suffering from population loss due among other reasons to graingrower properties being amalgamated and some young people departing for 'the big smoke.'
Great stuff Brad loved the Wycheproof stuff but so sad to see Korong Vale reduced to a set of points compared to what it used to be always loved driving out that way
Thank you, Wycheproof is a fair drive for me but I figured it was one I had to make in the brief time PN were running trains up in the daytime. Just as well I did as they've gone back to being night runners since when they've gone up there.
I grew up in Korong Vale from 1970 to 1980 and yes it is sad that it has more or less become a ghost town. There were two signal boxes and a refreshment rooms on the station as well as a overpass walk bridge and a fuelling point for the locos. Good memories!!
wow thats so interesting , love the Sealake Junction points. up the bush real rail work Hey Brad
There's some real oddities up that way. The junction really should be controlled from Melbourne to speed things up
Fantastic looking loco. Awesome stuff again . . .
They're a favourite of mine
Very nice catch Brad. I'd like to see those 2 XRs pulling the 40 loaded bulks up Warrenheip bank in the upcoming rain. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Paul, it'll probably be dark o clock when they're going up Warrenheip
And they ended up stalling...
Would have made a good video if it wasn't dark when it happened
Paul Perrottet this aged well....
Nice work again Brad. Glad to see PN using a second rake. I would expect even more to be reactivated soon. They have plenty of grain terminals to load at through your line through Bendigo.
Yeah there's a handful with Mitiamo, Woorinen, Piangil, Elmore and Deni
@@Greensleeves94 How many grain hoppers do PN have on broad gauge?
@@edmundcarew7235 At a guess probably around 200. They have four sets of 40 hoppers made up but there's others lying around as well.
Nice one Brad, always good to see trains in Wycheproof, I have ever seen trains there despite the number of times i have travelled through there. Thanks again....
Thanks Bill, I've been quite lucky in that
Awesome you gave us a reason why the train was travelling so slow LOL . . .
fun to watch. i always smile when a train goes along the broadway.
It's certainly a good sight, but a fair way to go to get it
@@Greensleeves94 ,good thing you did.
I thought they ran the last train 4 years ago. But good to see they restart the services.
SSR have still been running up there over the last couple of years and even QUBE for a bit. PN just didn't have many running over the last couple of years because of the lack of grain being exported.
There is a Footage of 9149 at Wedderburn Junction, but no Footage of the Old Formation to Wedderburn.....a Pan to this Old Branch would be have been spectacular.....
I'm not actually entirely sure where the branch used to come off there, unlike some other locations around the formation is not readily seen so I'd have to do some exploring to find it.
can't get enough of shots of trains going down the main street in Wycheproof
Excellent video my friend! 👍
Thank you
Nice I thought Wycheproof didn’t have BG anymore
Thanks, still BG all the way through to Sea Lake and Manangatang. Not likely to go SG any time soon either with the revised MBRP business case.
@@Greensleeves94 oh ok I thought there was a tour a few years ago farewell BG to Wycheproof
I don’t remember it clearly so probably wrong
There was, a Steamrail trip with A2 986 that I chased. Of course, at the time the MBRP was supposed to see full gauge conversion up there.
@@Greensleeves94 oh ok but never happened
This is Sad Footage of a Major Rail Terminal, of Korongvale that had a Station and Massive Yard,
catering to Steam Loco's Maintenance and Replenishment. It had a Large Number of Crews Positioned with Way and Works Teams Servicing the Branch Corridors. I remember when I was in TC, The Last Crews were still located there and a Station Building still existed in 1988 ? near there.
Very much a shadow of its' former self now
Trains Approaches, do not " Trigger the Turn-out Indicator. These are Set. but if they are wrong, then the Driver knows to stop and inspect. Then report the Fault.
Yeah I figured my terminology would be out there
Ev found track faults.. I'm taking bets as to how long will it take to fix
The ones along that part are mostly all gone and they're back running up to around 70kph between Inglewood and Korong Vale. Been a while since I was last out further than that but pretty sure north of there on the Sea Lake line is all done too.
How often would a loco travel through Wycheproof?
There's been trains through there nearly every day this week
Should notch 8 down the middle of the street!
Would sound good but probably not end too well
What the white marking on the wheel's please thank you
I think it's just to provide an easy visual confirmation that the wheel is turning
Iteresting website train related www.stationspast.net/victoria/north-west-of-bendigo/korong-vale/ seen this site Brad?
They do nice paint work on the locos, why not do it for the wagons. Some very good graffiti artist around.
These locos last got painted about 5 years ago, it's worn very well for not having been undercover much since
