We broke up because we didn't have enough money to go on. I left first and then the band continued for a few more months. Thanks for watching/listening Robert Lipson
So happy to hear your band in live, just discover your music, and I am a fan now. "This is Gracious" is a great record. Thanks to share your concert at Wight Festival.
Thanks for forming. Loved your first album back in the 70's one of the most interesting of the Vertigo albums and recently found your second. What an audacious band Gracious was.
Robert lipson, I'm from the us and I have both of your albums from 71 and 72. Both are amazing pieces of music, I mean the mellotron and the interplay that goes on with guitar, vocals is really just absolutely incredible. It's just too bad that you guys didn't go further 😔. Well anyways thanks for the fantastic live footage.
I'm so blow away by this perfomance. My friend had this guitar solo on his story and was instantly hooked. In my early 20s and this is all I'm looking for music wise. Thank you all for this it's crazy here in 2020 I still find amazing talent like you guys!!!! 🤘🧨
Thanks Ruben. We wrote and rehearsed Super Nova in 1970, and the first time we ever played it live was at the Isle of Wight!! Pretty mad thing to do! We recorded in the Autumn and Winter of the same year. The album was never released while we were together, but came out on Phillips budget label rather than Vertigo some time later
I am a 16 year old from Florida and I’ve been on a prog binge for the past 2 years. I’ve just discovered Gracious the other day and I fell in love the second I heard “Introduction.” It’s easily one of my favorite songs now. I wish there were more prog bands coming out nowadays. So far all my generation really has is King Gizzard. Who knows? Maybe I might start making music with my friends at some point. Could be fun and I’ve always enjoyed singing and I picked up the bass a little over a year ago. I’d just hope we’d be able to bring back the spirit from the 70-90’s that seems to have been lost. Thanks for uploading this, man. Hope you’re doing well
As someone who's between your generation and the one that produced this music, age-wise (I'm 44), I encourage you to keep digging around on the internet. There are bands out there playing music that's kind of spiritually descended from stuff like this. For example, if you're up for something with major '70's prog and/ or psych vibes and very creative, but a bit heavier, I highly recommend checking out Slift (from France) and Elder (originally from my home turf in New England, but now based in Germany), if you're not familiar with them. Also, definitely consider making your own music in this vein like you said. We can always use more bands that have their own take on this kind of sound.
If you're digging the kinda spooky protometal type progressive rock from this era you need to check out Quatermass and Black Magic. Black Magic gets a bit of a nod for also touching on some elementary forms of goth and shoegaze and providing influence there.
@@SecretWeapon62578 Elder I guess was from Providence right? I was given a couple of tapes by someone from Armageddon a few years ago. I thought it was decent. Kinda brought me back to that Sea of Tombs, Dead Meadow, BRMC era of the early 2000's. I had a few friends who thought Sea of Tombs was absolutely groundbreaking.... until I introduced them to my massive collection built by buying old dudes record collections. The fucking albums I scored and discovered for what is now like quarters on the hundreds of dollars.
@@Cheeseburger.Launch.Sequence not sure which Elder releases you heard, but from your description, it sounds like it was probably from the earlier part of their career. Honestly, I thought their material was just decent until the "Lore" album from 2015. That was quite a leap forward for them in my opinion, and since then they've been producing really good stuff with increasingly prevalent '70's prog and even Krautrock influences mixed in with their existing style. Plus, they've added a second guitarist, which I think was becoming a necessity given the increasing intricacy of their arrangements. If you haven't heard their more recent stuff, you should give it a listen.
I recently purchased a vinyl copy of the Gracious! album (Vertigo 1970). The album is so spectacular, so magical...I don't understand why the Band has not received recognition for the size of their superb musical ability.
Thanks for watching and posting Grey! I think all the albums are available, but I would recommend the first 2-you can get them on Amazon. The 3rd was something Tim and I did with a few other musicians and Alan contributing to the first track. Great fun, but not really a Gracious album
I saw Gracious in Marquee Club in.... was it 1969 or 1970. A mindblowing concert. And of course I went to get the album right after at HMW. Still good. No - more than good. Much more. Thanks for your ambition. And not boring music. Most was and more is.
Of all the tracks to play live to a 600,000 strong audience, they choose Super Nova, which wasn't on their debut album (the only one available at the time) and is twenty minutes long ! Mad bastards ! But brilliant, all the same. Thankyou so much for posting this precious footage of a brilliant and criminally-overlooked prog rock group
You are exactly right! And the mellotron mucked up. We actually hadn’t played Super Nova in front of anyone -let alone an Isle of Wight Audience. I've just turned 60 and discovered Gracious this week after searching for obscure 70's prog bands! This footgage is amazing! Tell me folks, there's just the three albums am I right? Re-issues available?
the white massive keyboard it's a mellotron, not an organ. mellotron was a sort of "tape sampler" used by a loto of bands in late sixties. Kitcat -the keyboardist- trademark sound was to play it very distorted.
Good question about Windy day. I think it was too long-when we finally released it as a single, all the jazz stuff was cut and the solo!! We double billed with King Crimson on their 4th gig and when they had successfully blown us off the stage (as they did with every band they played with-even The Rolling Stones in Hyde Park who waited 1 hour after their set before they went on stage!!) the next day we ordered a new one from Melotronics or whatever they were called in Birmingham. The big difference with ours was we had the 2 keyboards doing exactly the same instruments. That meant when the 8 seconds of strings on the tape loop get to the end, there was no mini gap as the other keyboard picked up the strings so no gap-hope it makes sense
Thank You so very much. Since Cressida managed to reunite isn't it about time you do a serious try also. Echo doesn't count. :-) Gracious 2 albums is on my top 50 list of all albums. My list is much better than Rolling Stone magazine's or similar. ;-))

the white massive keyboard it's a mellotron, not an organ.
mellotron was a sort of "tape sampler" used by a loto of bands in late sixties.
Kitcat -the keyboardist- trademark sound was to play it very distorted.
The Mellotron is out for blood!!
love it
so great. thanks for this!!!
Tremenda Banda, temazoo, tiene alma, tiene cuerpo.l
Thanks very much
In the 70s there were Gracious, Rare Bird, Cressida, Beggars Opera. I don't know how I survived that era without these progressive super bands.
thanks for post greaaaattt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stunning band!!!!!!!!!!
Been waiting for this to appear :)
No apologies mate ! It sure would have been a treat to hear the Mellotron with the rest accompanying the performance..
Хорошее видео.супер.
Robert Lipson If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of music were you guys playing when you billed with King Crimson?
Robert Lipson I wish I had known of you back then exactly the=kind of music I love
You must be so lucky to even see King Crimson in 1969
このグループのライヴが残っていたとは。
Great!!! Thanks for this post.
FINALLY! Thanks Rob :)
No autotune, no metronome, no tabs/notes.... Holy good old days when every live performance were unique.
tabs/notes?
@@boomer7393 Oh there was definately tabs...
@@flaviobrandli5979 lmao good one
👍💯🤘🥁😩🥁
amazing!!
Increíble este temazo
thanks, this is great
Thank You so very much. Since Cressida managed to reunite isn't it about time you do a serious try also. Echo doesn't count. :-) Gracious 2 albums is on my top 50 list of all albums. My list is much better than Rolling Stone magazine's or similar. ;-))
With Martin dead we decided not to even try to reform.
Time view, and I agree with him, is if we can’t do it as well as we used to, we shouldn’t try
Great band!
