Moana Jones-Wong and John John Florence solidified their rightful places as the current king and queen of the North Shore's most iconic wave this week by winning the Vans Pipe Masters. This shocked exactly no one. We were shin deep in the sand for the whole event, and there was no shortage of other amazing moments that went down, many of which are showcased above.

Cool to see how fast the ladies are adapting to Pipeline. I think the crew of young women surfers learning heavy barrels before our eyes is one of the coolest stories in pro surfing right now. Strange the WSL doesn't seem that interested in it.

Kia ora, tatou katoa, What a pleasure to watch the whole Vans Pipe process. The most feel-good contest I have ever watched, with heartfelt and constantly affirming commentary from the Makua Rothman and the changing panel - awesome mana exhibited by all; huge congratulations to an all-star Hawaiian cast of winners - richly deserved in every way and so making the best of, at times, a super-challenging and surfer-destroying Pipe. I loved the whānau family feel, the ..."my brother is in the next heat", moments, the support and love from all the contestants to one another - the 3 Bears Florence humour and collective genius and the focus and spirit of Moana Jones-Wong now Queen of Pipe for the second time, together with everyone there at the contest. It is this kind of environment which has always existed in Hawaii, which fosters the Greats - so amazing to see the women hugely upping their game every season - how could they not in this climate of aroha and support? These upcoming 16 year olds!!! What a Triumph for Hawaii and World surfing in every way! Mahalo!

Great footage and mixed in with the little interviews nice. As someone who has surfed starting in the early '70s and as a professional musician 50 years, for me it's a big disconnect between watching pipeline matched up with some heavy metal music??? Big disconnect on that one. Would much prefer to just hear the ocean.
