  • Russia's "special military operation" in Ukraine has lasted for over two years, far longer than President Putin expected. Originally intended to be a quick victory with Russia raising its flag in Kyiv, the war has turned into a grueling struggle. Ukraine's fierce resistance, backed by Western military aid, has bogged Russia down, challenging its military capabilities and geopolitical standing. Even if Russia succeeds, it risks losing in other areas, including economically and politically. Dive deep into the complex factors at play as we explore how this conflict impacts Russia's future on multiple fronts. 📉🌍

maybe that isnt working, assuming for the russians but the hard truth still stands. ukraine is losing 95% of their daily battles to fight off the russians and also to gain land and have lost so much land now that 1 whole region of ukraine is nearly overtaken by the russians. russians are mostly still victorious atm on winning the war, even before the aid from china. russia gains usually up to 7km a day in just one small part of the frontline usually gaining a town or village or 2 every 2 ish days. now add up the total gained from all advancements on the frontlines from the russians and compare that to ukraine, its significantly more. the issue ukraine faces is that if they do manage to push back the russians and regain land to some degree, they lose it again in the next few days or are told to retreat back to the previous front line if its not able to be held or defended well enough to keep that portion of land recently gained. its a method ukraine is using to find weakpoints but comes with the caveat that they lose land they just gained and doesnt really do anything if the russians can just replug that hole and notice that the ukrainians have pushed back in that area. the russians will just reinforce it and make it harder to attack next time if allowed or strengthen it enough and go on a counter offensive to gain land instead to prevent any push that couldve been planned to happen.

On a geopolitical level, there’s an argument to be made that Russia lost this war the moment Sweden and Finland applied for NATO membership. If, as Carl Clausewitz famously opined, “war is a mere continuation of policy by other means,” and if Putin’s goal was to weaken NATO and establish (or re-establish) Russia as a major player at the global poker table, then this war failed long ago. At this point it’s just a question of how much Ukrainian dirt he gets to keep at the end of it and how many lives that dirt is going to cost. This will go down in history as one of the epic blunders.

      @heybri Месяц назад +84

lol Your thinking of how many ppl stalin killed (20 million).. not lost lol.. I'm obsessed with WW2 History.. soviet union lost around 10-14 million soldiers according to most outside estimates.. Internally Stalin gave the # around 8 million but as usual Russian/Soviet leaders lie to make themselves look better or less bad.. However, including civilians, most scholars estimate around 25 to 27 million deaths in the Soviet Union throughout WW2.. I have been very curious about how many soldiers have been lost by Russia in Ukraine so far.. The numbers Putin gives are such absurd lies (i heard him say 15-20k deaths so far).. But then again, as per usual Ukraine is full of their own liars.. If u ask zelensky, russia has lost over 545,000 soldiers which i think sounds way too high.. I'd say the # is around 120,000 as of today at most.. It's just a guestimate as usually the truth is somewhere in the middle of the two lies.. The real expense for russia is the equipment/vehicles though. Unfortunately they value their equipment over their men.. Most of their fronrline soldiers are paid mercenaries from Russia / China so they couldn't value those poor men any less than they already are.. I saw a blog recently that leaked from a chinese soldier who was writing his experience on the lines (he works for one of the chinese companies contracted to the front lines by russia) and he was describing how he had been on the lines for around 2 months.. He had participated in 4 campaigns so far (each campaign is basically a multi-week assault on a specific town/village or even just a street that russia is aiming to take) and he said around 60-75% of all the soldiers sent on each campaign are dead within 48 hours of the start of the campaign and have to be replaced. Those numbers are AWFUL.. if you look at some of the harshest campaigns in Afghanistan /Iraq you'll see numbers nowhere near that.. It's shockingly bad tactics that are responsible.. I genuinely don't understand what Putin is doing/thinking. the only thing i can think is he's got some bigger strategy/plan that he is not yet ready to use.. He never expected Ukraine to toss his units out of Kyiv and most of the other lands they took, but he has had more than enough time to recalculate and strategize.. I expected he would announce "the war is won" when Donetsk was taken and just pull out of all other fronts.. When he didn't do that, i started to think he is forming up enough of his most elite units and equipment for one more big roll of the dice.. I think he does what they did in the beginnning of the invasion and tries his hand at taking Kyiv.. if he takes Kyiv, Ukraine falls shortly after most likely.. The problem is the main reason they were successful was the element of surprise and the fact that there were so many fronts opening at once so can they do that again? Lots of the bridges are damaged/destroyed and the traintracks are destroyed as well..

in a massive way in which i will say was stupid of them to do which lost them tons of land instantly was right before the war had officially kicked off where russia had waltzed right on the doorstep of ukraines cental city was deciding to at the time, back off into their country and behind the boarders before officially deciding to start a war in ukraine in which they now had to fight from the boarder instead of 98% of the land they had initally just waltzed in on, thinking itd be easily taken by force without backlash.

Wounded soldiers are complaining of being sent back to fight without even receiving proper treatment. Last thing I’ll mention, but far from their last problem, is that it’s clear that these new recruits aren’t always being trained. Maybe none or most. Videos of soldiers saying they were sent to the front only days after signing contracts as well as social media posts by family members sending someone off only for them to announce their deaths less than a week later. Russias only advantage is quantity. The question seems to be not if the Russian army will crumble, but when. If the separation of states within the Russian federation is even half of what is suggested, then a defeat in Ukraine "might" see the states rebel. It seems quite evident that Russia would not have the military strength to fair well if even one of it's it's states rebelled. Each state would invariably do well on a reputation front having shaken off the imposition of Russia.

    • @vidong1704

Correct, but note that Russia does not have " states". It has ethnic republics. 21 of them. They are mostly in the Asian part and are populated by various " non-white" people if one uses American terminology. ( Turko Mongols mainly). They are not ethnically Russian as they are not Slavic, and are Asians or Finno-Uralc ( same as Hungarians)- not Slavic, again. They are tired of feeding Moscow, and the " white people" there and want their countries back.
Most of Russia is not even Russia. Just occupied Asian nations.
Then you have regionalism which is developing into new identities. For example, "Siberian" now looks more and more like a nationality. Kind of like Canadian vs "British". Siberia was independent once, too.
If you look at the map of Russia, most place names sound Asian. It's basically a colonial empire, which is basically " white people" running and milking Asian lands and abusing Asian people.
The difference is it's on dry land and with adjacent territories who had been conquered in incorporated.
Colonial empires do not last forever, though.

Frontier war line is so long in thousands of kilometers.
Ukraine before this war, has been strongest and most ready army in Europe (but weaker than Russia)
If Ukraine invaded Germany, they could've taken it easily or if invaded Italy or France (Imagine scale how strong Ukrainian army has been before this war)
Now, when you are seeing Russian losses ain't that logical?
Russia and Ukraine are both GIANTS when comes to army.
Extreme losses are on both sides and that is ultra sad, as this war should've never started!

The unspoken problem is that Russia is a nuclear power. If Putin is going to lose power and, especially, if he is attacked by NATO, than the temptation to use nuclear weapons would be very strong. Nobody knows what would happen in that situation, but the danger of escalation to a catastrophic Global conflict is substantial. So Russia might lose, but might take the entire human race down with them.

yes and no. modern wars these days are more difficult because of the new technology being used but its been going slow for a very long time already. its a counter after counter based war. they have to keep evolving or re-establishing new attack strategies just to gain a very minimal advantage every day in hopes that they can secure a large chunk of land or a town or city or village. it will remain slow until theres 1 major attack strategy that works significantly well or catches the other side off guard enough to do a large scale advancement or push back, and thats not considering the fact that it likely wouldnt ever work a 2nd time in the same war. yes its still basically trench warfare with the inclusion of tanks and mines still which is moreless what ww1 and ww2 was mostly using in the whole war but the way the war is being handled is completely different and far more in depth and difficult. many countries have forgotten how war works after ww1 and ww2 cause another war with a country seemed low and unexpected as there wasnt anyone showing a proper incentive similar to ww1 and ww2 of waging a war and most to all countries at the time seemed or were against the decision of ever waging one with the new era the world was now in and have massively different it is now compared to before the events of ww1. it wasnt that wars were out the picture or was excluded from most countries thoughts but more the fact that there was a good enough connection between all countries despite some arguements and disputes in which it finally felt stable and not something to worry about.
obviously russia decided to change that out of no where and then fueled the fire for war with other countries waging wars and being under threat of a possible war over far smaller issues and disputes between the countries. i dont mean to come off rude either but it was a perfect excuse that lower, far more struggling countries could use in which waging a war would end up boosting them in other countries views as a global threat or possible super power or just to be far more aknowledged by bigger and stronger countries as a way to prove that they have some military significance, they arnt to be taken lightly, they are more substantial than most other countries view them as and so on. most wars ever waged have been historically proven to be at some kind of excuse or resolve of other countries that engaged in wars prior and had used that as an excuse to boost their own importance and significance in the world often involving themselves to gain land or side with the bigger global power of the war to try and control the world in some regard. england and the US have both once claimed nearly all of the world before thru waging conflicts of war by whatever historical means was chosen at the time to become the super powers they are today. china has done this, russia has done this many countries which are global super powers or have alot of global significance at least had waged many wars in the past and claimed most of the land across the globe at some stage to make them where they are now.

As a Russian, I could confirm almost all statements from the video.
But the block about the possible division of Russia is speculative and not entirely reliable. When showing the results of an independence poll, it would be wise to include the number of people who voted to see that this was a very small poll of a specific sample. I live in Ingria and here the idea of secession from Russia is discussed by no more than 1% of people.
To the information about problems with labor, I can add that now the Russian government is actively campaigning against migrants, so problems with labor will worsen further.

By no logical metric is Ukraine winning this war, it was always going to end up with an outcome favorable to Russia; but like Lloyd Austin admitted this war was really about trying to weaken Russia's military and economy. They just couldn't forsee Ukraine and the rest of Europe was going to go with it, or they simply didn't care; because weakened Europe is one that will always need the US.

Russia is actually gaining territory and they have more men and material to spare, whilst they are fighting over absolutely nothing in my opinion, you can see this end in a peace treaty where Russia gets to keep the areas they've taken. Zelensky already said he would be open to this if the people vote for it
