Hope you enjoy my video essay on Zack Snyder's Watchmen (2009) and why I believe the film is ahead of its time. I'm going to be doing more videos on films and tv shows that I believe are ahead of their time, so let me know down below what suggestions you would have for the series.
The only movie Zack has made that didn't feel like it was made too too early was Justice League, and that's only because it was delayed by 4 years lmao 💀 Watchmen perfectly deconstructs the comic book genre, especially in the world of Marvel we live in today🖤
Umm no. Man of steel undoubtedly has problems. BvS is factually a disappointment and bad film. Army of the dead is mid. Snyder has artistic integrity, I will give him that, but not all his films are on the level of Watchmen.
Zack Snyder will be on the leagues of Martin Scorcese and Quentin Tarantino in the next 20 years, Even Christopher Nolan agrees that Watchmen was released too early. Thank you for this video Cortex. I enjoyed it a lot.
One of the biggest criticisms people have about the movie still today is that while it captures the images and look of the comic it doesn’t capture the same themes or it at least misses the point. But what they don’t realize is that’s what Zack wanted to do, the novel was a commentary on super hero comics. The movie while it follows the story, is ultimately a commentary on super hero movies, the violence and sex is heightened from the book to contrast the light and humorous tone of the marvel movies, and I know the film came out before that really got rolling, but it’s there to show that all of these fights wouldn’t be all cartoony they’re real. And I like to see the changed ending as a contrast to comic book movies as well, taking this super hero we all look up to and forcing us to look at him as a villain through a lie. It works better if you view the movie in comparison to other superhero movies. Like the graphic novel did for comics
I've definitely changed my mind about Watchmen since it first came out. I didn't really care that the ending was changed concerning the Squid. Now I don't mind it that they did. It's way up there now with me. I re-evaluated it after watching the Watchmen series on HBO. Both are works of genius.
Literally the only two complaints I always hear are it changes to little or it changes to much even though the Director's cut and Ultimate editions of the film are so true to the comic. You are always gonna run into problems when taking a comic on comic books and trying to convert it to film but that's why some of the changes are so great. The Squid becomes like a nuclear blast similar to cold War tensions, the movie punishing the viewer for wanting to see violence, ozymandias suit being a parody another Superhero movie costume, rorschach killing the child rapist rather than giving him a choice. Some of these I really admire and understand I respect Snyder for sticking true to the original while simultaneously making a few changes based to make it grasp better to the film medium
Watchmen comics is one of the greatest comics of all time.... This film deviated from the original Comics... But a great movie on it's own. But great visuals ❤️
The thing is that when asked what's my favorite Snyder Films I can't choose Man Of Steel Batman V Superman Dawn Of Justice Zack Snyder's Justice League Watchmen These 4 are one of the best movies I ever watched
I have no respect for anyone who panned the movie when it came out, then watches it again recently and then says, "I think I was a bit too harsh on this film the first time round". The same way some people did recently with Man of Steel.
I dunno why this movie isnt more popular. I know nothing of the comic series before watching it, and after a few watches, I feel like I know everything about the series. Theres just so much detail in a fleshed out world that it becomes extremely engaging. Those are the best movies - the ones that make you forget real life while watching.
Seeing Dr Manhatten for the first time, and then realizing that he symbolizes American nuclear scientists that created the atom bomb was really fulfilling. I normally dont like comic book movies, but this was fit into the real world well enough for me to really enjoy it.
Peoples criticism is always the same: They say the parts of the comic that look like the comic is too similar, which makes it unoriginal while the parts that are different from the comics are too different, which makes people say he didn't understand the source material. Id say the major differences are: While the comic is a satire and commentary on comicbooks and superhero comicbooks, the film is a satire and commentary on comicbook movies and the modern popculture.
I think this movie highlights what Zach Snyder brings to the table. As a writer/storyteller he kinda lacks, but as a director with cinematography and style he nails it straight on.
When I first saw Watchmen in theaters, I thought it was one of not the greatest comic book movie adaptations ever made, and i still think it is. To this day, I don't understand why this movie got so much hate.
This movie is a masterpiece. idc anymore. Adrian was a modern day Pharaoh Ramses/ Thanos killing millions to save billions. Before Endgame came out. Pharaoh challenged God Himself in ancient Egypt. And the filmmaking by Zack is perfect
Plot holes in the limited series and film. No one shut down the chamber that created Dr. Manhattan. No circuit broken, power turned off or plug pulled. Neither JFK or LBJ used Jon's power.

@@Momos_POV yes it does
Good ting we have the ultimate edition Wich is not perfect but much better
Watchmen is truly a masterpiece.
That could be the title tag for Snyders career. Visionary director for real.

Rebel moon is horrible
@@griffinparker8581 yeah, as is Army of the Dead. Since the Netflix deal, he fell off a lot imo.

Nah, he may join the ranks of Sergio Leone.
His movies were not received well back in the day and now, they appreciate it

Well said

Been waiting for this one
Watchmen, just like this video, is criminally underrated. Completely agree. I loved the film when it came out.
I love Watchmen, for me the best Comic-book Movie of all time!!!
Must say I also enjoyed the Watchmen show on HBO.
its best to watch it after all the mcu and superhero movie hype
Still my favourite Synder film.
The thing is that when asked what's my favorite Snyder Films
I can't choose
Man Of Steel
Batman V Superman Dawn Of Justice
Zack Snyder's Justice League
Watchmen
These 4 are one of the best movies I ever watched
I have no respect for anyone who panned the movie when it came out, then watches it again recently and then says, "I think I was a bit too harsh on this film the first time round". The same way some people did recently with Man of Steel.

This film is crazy good!
Really appreciate your breakdown of it.
Glad you enjoyed!

You're probably the smartest person on RUclips
How is it a satire on modern pop culture? The film is set in the past
Video aged beautifully
Bought the dvd, blu ray then directors cut... now I have it in 4k so yea I'm a fan
I think this movie highlights what Zach Snyder brings to the table. As a writer/storyteller he kinda lacks, but as a director with cinematography and style he nails it straight on.
Simplify, that’s the key. Still today.
I loved the Directors Cut.
The theatrical was also pretty good
PURE CLASS..⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hardly we will see any better superhero film anytime soon.
Watchmen is so beautiful
Could you please make a video on sucker punch. My personal favorite
When I first saw Watchmen in theaters, I thought it was one of not the greatest comic book movie adaptations ever made, and i still think it is. To this day, I don't understand why this movie got so much hate.
Please check THE EXPANSE SciFi Series & INVINCIBLE series. Both are available in Prime
May be doing Invincible this week but not apart of this series as it’s just come out 😉
Best DC adaptation ever made
Best super-hero movie ever made. It was too dark, too good for its time. If it had been released today, it would have had much more eppreciation.
Gotta love Rorshasht
Zack Snyder praise?? Hook it!!!

Mcu has made ppl think if it’s not mediocre it’s bad
It was originally Charlton homage. DC prevented this.

Next 300 and Dawn of the Dead
El mismísimo Christopher Nolan lo dijo
Well I’m my opinion now I would say you can’t please everyone that’s it
Honestly the HBO version is kinda a joke compare to this
