In 1968 the town of Auroville was founded for anyone, from anywhere in the world, to come and live. It promoted a sustainable and non material lifestyle, where property ownership wasn't allowed.
The Auroville township in South India is now home to 2000 people from all over the world. "I am on the verge of a new perception of life, as if certain parts of the consciousness were mutating from the caterpillar state to the butterfly state..." says Alfassa. The purpose was to realise human unity and it is today recognised as the first and only internationally endorsed experiment that is still ongoing in this field.

I never will forget my Meditations at Matrimandir. It is like sitting in the Home we all originally came from....a feeling of becoming ONE with Divine Love. If you are ever in Auroville; May you look beyond the Human experience of Auroville, close your eyes and you will feel The Mothers caring,loving vibration enveloping you and your journey. If you look only from your mind the only thing you will see is hardship, human struggle and imperfection.
To say it in Mothers words:
"Life is meant for seeking the Divine. Life is realized when finding the Divine."
Nobody said its easy or what your human mind thinks is paradise or utopia. Struggle and imperfection is part of the process.

I've been to Pondi and Auroville twice..... sure we can make all sorts of judgements but I think these people generally should be admired. I wish I had been in a position to stay there in the 70's or even 80's.... they have worked through a lot of problems and achieved a huge amount..... nothing is perfect. But can't we rejoice in a place that has tried to live up to it's idealistic ideals......

I have been there innumerable times. Have also lived there for long periods. It can be a tough life . Only those meant for it can be there. Sometimes the physical discomfort can be daunting.

I heard about Auroville whilst I was living and working in SW China about 3 years ago from a well travelled, a worldly character, he lit a spark of curiosity in my heart. I have worked for Biodynamic farms under the Athroposophical teachings and I was wondering if anyone could actually introduce Auroville to me, anyone that has actaully been there or lives there? I was thinking of going to volunteer. Many thanks.

This seems like the infant stage of a Resource Based Economy envisioned by The Venus Project and The Zeitgeist Movement. A low tech version.
Besides the fact the 'resource' here is still 'labor', where in the venus project the resource is self-awareness and developement.
Auroville will still need money and funding, something the Venus project idea totally rejects.
Also in the Venus Project it's all about automisation and abundance to keep people in an evolving state of mind. Very different... and actually the Venus Project is the best idea, but it needs a worldwide collapse of the financial and political worlds for it to work.

I think it's amazing what they are doing there, I will really like to visit auroville and see how it's before comment without knowledge. I love the idea of living in peace with each other. Without politics judgements and without this much of "possessions feeling" that we are so much used to have in the westerners countries.

I admire these ppls really great and hard working! Wish we all lived in such society. Not our greedy money and pwr crazy world.
If these people joined together with the venus project and started moving things along to get rid of currency all together. Things would move faster.

was there in 07 from a school trip, little did i know about the actual world and how the cult is a thing.
I am interested in living there but just for a few weeks and not full time. Is it possible? I want a break from the usual rat race of corporate metropolitan life and relax and be in a community like this. I am an Indian.

Hi,
I was man handled and threaten to kill by auroville restaurant waiters,
for protesting against there misbehavior to customers at the restaurant .
Incident happen at 11the Saturday February 2017, since i was form
another state the waiters told i will be killed if a spoke against them .
The restaurant waiters where misbehaving to most of the customers . They
even threat the taxi drivers to take us back or else we will be killed,
(since its there place ), and auto drivers charged more because of the
incidence and they didn't fulled the places the promised us to take .
The next morning the Loge manger where we stayed also threaten us and
made us to checkout earlier because they got some new customers .
Who ever planing to go to auroville universal city, please dont go there .
Its not a safe place, people are uncivilized and criminals

Communism requires the abandonment of currency, that's just one of the reason it's never been tried.
It differs in that communism also requires a democracy, whereas this kind of community works more like a mixture of anarchy, except it has rules for inclusion and exile.

It's too hippie. I'm quite a liberal person but a place like this withoit competition, would not give rise to any development. On the other hand, very capitalistic and religious have their own set of problems.

Think about it for fuck sake guys. Its a corporation. Not all are allowed to live there. And one must pay some good figure and contribute a lot to become the resident of this place for sure

There must be some conditions and requirements to be able to live there and which definately any average, not highly educated and not fuckin' rich person like me can't make it..
