This is another one of Roland's childhood dishes - a dish which his mom used to cook. As a busy working mother, his mom had to whip something out quickly to feed her three hungry children. Are you a busy mom too? Perhaps this recipe will suit you well. I believe your children will enjoy this very much. :)

Roland, 咸饭是我的最爱,也是最恨的一道,爱是喜欢吃,恨是吃了还添饭完全不能控制,包菜,长豆,大菜,金瓜,茄子,都好吃😋🙏
Hi Cindy. 不好意思。这么晚才回应。现在我们人在美国旅行所以需要多点时间来看你们留言。是啊。咸饭又简单又好吃。它也是我的最爱 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I swapped the pork for chicken cubes since that’s what I have in my fridge, and omg it tastes like I made lotus leaf rice. Amazingggggg. Feeling accomplished 🤣 bf who is a better chef than I am, ate 2 bowls !!
I used 2 cups water with the 2 cups rice , since I saw the water covered my rice already in the rice cooker and the pot was already full - it worked out well!
I am feeling hungry just watching you cooking this fabulous aromatic dish.
Thank you so much
As always, your step by step tutorial is indeed very easy to follow and the end product is yummy and delicious food that enables people like me to try and cook up dishes which I could not have done so without your sharing. Thank you Spice & Pan.
Thank you too, Elizabeth. Glad to help!
aiya, i tried this today and it tastes so good. i modified the recipe a bit because i have a cooked rice already so i just put the mushrooms and meat on top of the rice, add a bit of stock and let it steam for a bit. delicious!
Glad you liked it. Thanks for using our recipe 👍👍👍
Very nice and authentic Chinese kiampung. One of my favorites!
I often cook this as a one dish dinner meal. I like to use chinese mustard green. Eat it with sambal belachan. As you said, you can eat more than 1 bowl because it is so good
Solid. You’re making us hungry now.
Hello, greetings frm Indonesia. My kiam peng is currently cooking at the rice cooker and i can tell its gonna be so delicious. I use long bean instead cos thats how my mom usually pair it with. Thanks for the recipe. Im so grateful!
Awesome. Enjoy! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Just want to let you know that I attempted to cook this rice dish and it turned out superb. Thank you again for your inspirational video., simple yet delicious. 😋😋😋
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed this recipe. Yippee!
I made this. It was delicious! I made 2 cups of rice, cooked 1/4 and refrigerate the rest. Weekday WFH Lunch sorted. Loved it ♡. Thank you.
You’re most welcome 🤓 Glad that we could help 🙏🙏
Tried this and it was amazing! Only difference I did was that reduced the amount of water, and mixed dark soya sauce with some scallion oil and drizzled on after the rice was cooked. Delicious thank you!
Yum!! Glad you enjoyed this as much as we did 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love your recipes.. I just cooked your sesame chicken rice in rice cooker too and my family loves it! Just curios, how come the chicken rice uses 1:1 rice to water, but this Cabbage pork recipe uses 2:3 rice to water?
I am also wondering, especially when chef said cabbage will release water, wouldn’t that be too much water? Anyone able to advise?
Gr8 recipe, keep it up! Roland. The best part of it is 'it works' and tastes yummy.' Thanks for cooking all the traditional dishes that we don't get to eat nowadays! God bless you!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
My favourite ! Thanks chef , love your channel and so easy to follow step by step.
🤓🤓 you’re most welcome!
That looks very good thank you for showing me this recipe.
Hi Roland, my children and i enjoy your recipes :) would like to know if we can use 五花肉 for the streaky pork?
Hi Eunice. Yes no problem. You can use 五花肉。thanks so much for enjoying our recipes ❤️❤️❤️

Nice. Looks great!
Love all the dishes you've prepared and presented on your channel. Please continue in doing a great job. Could you link (the picture) the chinese sausage brand (type) you used for this dish. It's easier for me to get it from the store knowing how it looks. Thank you
Thank you for sharing your recipe sir!salute
You’re so sweet. Thank you so much.
Brilliant and Yummy idea,

Rice cookers are amazing machines.

You are making me hungry and i feel like buying a ticket to sg to visit your home 😉😉
Hi Sashi. Hehehe. That’s why we created this channel to help you save your air ticket. We brought you home virtually. Have a great weekend!
Hi great video! Your recipe calls for 3 cups of water. Can I ask how much is one cup of water in ml? Just wanted to be 100% accurate.
I have to admit, I'm not chinese, not asian, by far. I've been making rice and thin slices of chinese sweet pork sausages for many years and I never bothered to look for a recipe. Well, today, a proper recipe has found me O.O :D Internet, so... magical, it can make comfort even more comfortable :D
You’re a natural cook. 👍👍👍 the instinct could be from your past life. No joke 👍👍
Hi, i like Chinese food. I am from Suriname and the Chinese food there is awsome!!!!! Can you make a video of the Chinese sosage (fa chong)? I like the brown chinese sosage. Mi English is not very good 😄
yess..the smell just coming through my phone
LOL. That serious!? 🤓🤓🙏🙏
Cooking this dish now. Can't wait to eat once cooked
Omg I really miss my ah Ma cabbage rice.
Looks yummy 😋 yummy
Do you have a glutinous rice version? Thanks
Here you go ruclips.net/video/rDE5HZLT5Uo/видео.html
Love this recipe but not sure of the amount of water to cook the rice. I’ve always thought that the ratio of rice to water is 1:1. Can please explain then why 3 cups of water instead of 2?
It looks absolutely easy and tasty. May I know if it's a traditional Singaporean or Malaysian dishes? Just curious as I have never seen it on the menu in the restaurant. Thanks
Hi Kennis. Thanks so much for watching our video. We’re not sure if it’s a Singaporean or Malaysian dish but this is a typical dish prepared at our homes when our parents feel lazy. Hahaha.
😂 love your reply and definitely will try it on a lazy day
From fujian minnan China
Hello, thanks for the awesome recipe! Can you please advise the cup type for rice and water? Is it the ‘rice cooker cup’ size for rice? And how many ml for 3 cups of water? Thanks! 😊
Thank you for your most helpful and useful recipes. You are amazing! I love this one too!
My family ate this for a week, they really like it. Cheers 😊😊😊
Wow at this for a week? You’re making us so happy that we may have problems sleeping tonight 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow, that looks so good! Thanks for the recipe, I’m going to make it soon!
Good morning! Have a great weekend & happy cooking!
It looks soooooooooo good🤤😋
Thank you so much, Delilah 🙏🙏🤓
3 cups of water to 2 cup of rice, isn't this too much of water, appreciate you confirmed before I try out this recipe, thank you 😁
I like to cook one dish rice as you don't need to clean the stove. I use mustard green and pork belly besides of course dried shrimps and mushroom. Top it up with fried shallots and sambal belachan and it is oiishi
I love the way you described how you would do this. Making me salivate! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi. I wish to try cooking this dish, but can i cook without the Chinese Sausage?
The other video you mentioned 3 cup of water to 3 cup of rice? If I want to cook 3 cup of frangrance meat rice in rice cooker, should need 3 cup of water right.
well, i like your cooking it just keep on coming.good one
Good morning! Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing. I tried it last week but rice turned out too sticky. Too much water. Will cook again today but will use 2 cups of rice with 2 cups of water.
Great for lunch..easy ingredients ,I'll try this weekend
Thank you for sharing
Happy cooking 🤓🤓
Hi Roland. Pls let me know why you put 3 cups of water for 2 cups of rice esp you mentioned cabbage will release water. Isn't the ratio is 1 cup rice : 1 cup water ? If I'm not using cabbage then what supposed to be the ratio ? Thxs.
Hi. I noticed you have been using this nonstick pan in quite a few of your videos. Is it okay to use medium high heat for non stick pan? I enjoyed all your recipes but hope you can look into more healthy cooking using natural seasonings sans oyster sauce.
Hi, May I know the amount of water if I want to use 1.5 cups of rice? 2.25 cups of water?
What if you’re allergic to shellfish? What else can I use as substitute?
Hihi. You can try some salted fish. Happy cooking!
If dun like mushroom what I can I substitute with ?
Great recipe! You make it look so easy. I also really like your wok, where can I buy one?
Hi there! Glad you liked this recipe. The brand of the 30cm pan is Shogun by La Gourmet. You can get the pan from Robinsons, Isetan, Metro, OG or BHG.
hi roland, i luv this dish very much but prefer it with glutinous rice. can u let me know the ratio rice is to water. thanx
Hi Catherine. May I recommend you to watch our lo mai gai video. We used 2 cups of glutinous rice to 1/2 cup of water. Please soak the glutinous rice for at least 4 hours but best overnight before using. Happy cooking! Here’s the lo mai gai recipe: ruclips.net/video/rRVXAJJZY3Q/видео.html
thank you.!
You’re welcome 🤓🤓
Hi, my name is Kath from Aussie land. My rice cooker has two settings. Up for warm and down for cook. Can I still make this recipe in this older model? I also have a big wok., that is make for induction cooking.
Hi Kath. Thank you so much for watching our recipe :-) yes you can use your good old rice cooker with no problem. We have another recipe using similar step. In that video, we used a combination of pan frying over the stove then the ingredients were transferred to the rice cooker. You can watch that as a reference. Here’s the link to the video. Happy cooking! ruclips.net/video/sbQKydkSVKA/видео.html
The dish looks delicious but i never tried b4...
Hope you will like it when you try it. Happy cooking 🙏🙏
Where can taste this type of "kiâm-pn̄g" in Malaysia or Singapore?
Great recipe brother... thumps up!

Good demonstration
Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
Spice N' Pans 你是福建华人吗?大马新加坡都是福建人!
Do you think you would have to change the amount of water if you are using a pressure cooker?
Good morning! We haven’t used a pressure cooker for rice before but we don’t think the amount of water needs to be changed. Happy cooking!
Hi, did you use the measuring cup that comes with the rice cooker? Kindly advise. Thank you.
Hi Lena, yes we did. Each cup of uncooked rice is 159g. Just in case. Sorry for our late reply.
May I know the size of your cup in ml. ?
Thanks.
Looks yummy.
Sorry, iund the answer.
I see in comments below it is 159 gr rice per your cup.
It will be easy to always mention the cup size.
Thanks for this wonderful channel.
Love your way of teaching.
Can you pressure cooker instead? :)
Do you run a cooking school in Singapore or K Lumpur?
If you do,i will sign up for myself without my wife's knowledge.
LOL!! Why can’t you let your wife know?
Just want to impress her when i acquire your cooking skill without her knowing my SIFU.
Well played, bro! Good thinking!
Wow u hv just given me an idea what to cook n store in the fridge but still taste good for CNY! Can u cook more dishes that can be stored in the fridge during CNY without dirty the house? Thanks.
We will be uploading some CNY dishes next week. Look out for them. Hope you’ll like them! 🤓🤓
Looking forward. Thanks!
looks delicious easy to cook too
The rice put in to fry is uncook or cooked?
Hi Jessica Germaine Tok, is uncooked rinsed rice.
another perfect recipe!
Thank you so much!!
mmmm yummy....
Thank you so much, Mary :)
Will the pork be over cooked since you fully cooked it in the pan and then cooked again in rice cooker?
Pork can handle it.
Good morning! It was perfectly okay for us.
May i ask why u don't stir fry the cabbage with the rest of the ingredients & just add it at the top? Is it better to just mix everything together then add it to the rice cooker & add water & cook as usual? Will the cabbage be tasteless? And No Oyster Sauce is needed?
Good morning Lilian. The reason why we didn't stir fry the cabbage was because our pan was too small but don't worry about it. They won't be tasteless as cabbage is naturally sweet. Yes we didn't use any oyster sauce in this recipe. Just follow exactly what we did and you'll be fine. Cheers.
Spice N' Pans ok cos i do have a big wok so is it possible to stir fry the cabbage with the rest of the ingredients then add uncooked rice & finally dump it in the rice cooker & cook as usual? U mentioned cabbage produces excess liquid. Will 3 cups make the rice too soggy?
Delicious fried rice 👏😊
Thanks so much, Larry :)
Can I ask - isnt it usually 2 cups of rice to 2 cups of water?
If I dislike shallots can I make it without shallots?
Hi Roland, the rice to add into the ingredients is uncooked rice correct?
Hi Yvonne. You are correct.
Thank you!!!
@@spicenpans Pre-soaked for 30 minutes?
Hi Roland, if I use 3 cups of rice, how much water do I need to put? Thanks!
Hi Steve. Sorry for our late reply. If you wanna cook 3 cups of rice, increase water to 3.5 cups and the rest of ingredients by 50 percent. This is because the extra veggies that you add will give moisture to the rice. Hope this helps. Happy cooking.
@@spicenpans how much water to add if using 1cup of Basmati Rice? Kindly acknowledge reply. Thanks.
I didn’t realise I’ve already subscribed when i wanted to hit subscribe 😂
Heheh thanks so much Elsa! Have a wonderful weekend!
What if have allergy for the shrimp? Is there any alternative choice?
Dried scallops
Goddd food!!!
I don't like to add the cabbage, can it be omitted and will the rice tastes good too?
Absolutely. No problem at all.
I don't put cabbage. I put a tomato and lots of ham and cheese. It was awesome
Hero Hour wow! Sounds so yummy! 👍🏻👍🏻
What kind of rice cooker (and fryer?) do you use here in this video?
Hi B. That was a Tefal rice cooker. Cheers.
Sweet! Thanks for replying, and your channel is great! :D
Thank you so so much B 🙏🙏
Hi, 2 cups of rice, u are using the rice measuring cup?
Hihi. We used rice cup to measure.
Thank u so much
Ruland you aregood cooking mama siony from california us
Thank you so much Mama Siony! 😘😘😘
my sir ask me to cook this food, thanks for the video
Thank you so much. Happy cooking!!
Wait a minute, did you stir fry the uncooked rice??? You stir fry the uncooked rice and then cook into the rice cooker? I've never seen that done
Hihi. This can help to make the rice more fragrant. Happy cooking! 👍🏻👍🏻
It is not really stir fry but meant to coat the rice grains with the sauces before it goes in the rice cooker.
It is the way to cook rizzotto as well, oil, onion or shallots (and whatnot) then rice till transluscent then broth (or whatnot)... so yes, frying rice first then "steam" cooking it is very old and common. Unless it's pure plain steamed, it's better this way but, then again, cooking is infinite.
I can now see why you r such an enthusiastic good cook!! She's give you a very yummy legacy.Haha, I'm glad I can sneak some enjoyment of your legacy😋😋
Haha, thank you so much, Grace. Have a wonderful weekend!
Hi can I use chicken instead? Chicken breast or which will b recommended?
Deboned chicken drums, cut into cubes with skin on. That's what, I'll use. I'll prefry them in ginger infused sesame oil.
Hi Roland, I would like to try this out tonight but have a question to ask.
Normally I will put eg 2 cups of rice and 2.5 cup of water.
You mentioned cabbage will give out water and yet 3 cups of water was require.
So will the rice become too soggy ?
Thanks for helping.😊
Hihi. You can use 2.5 cups of water if you’re more comfortable but using 3 cups was okay for us. Having said that, different people like their rice differently. Happy cooking 🤓
Spice N' Pans OK thanks Roland for replying.
I will let you know the outcome later! 🤣
Hi Roland, my rice is successful !
My husband like it very much.
I used 3 cups of water 😊
I have also tried your potatoes and minced pork and it is very nice too.
Thank you so much for your detailed instructions and videos.
Hope to see more videos coming 😀
Woohooz! Phew!! 🤓🤓🤓 Glad you and your hubby liked it!

Hi.. Can I still cook this without rice cooker, thanks
Hihi. Yes absolutely. Happy cooking 🤓
Dry mushroom in the Philippines is too expensive 😂 I miss cooking this and eating this when I was in SG.
