We have a similar dish here in the philippines introduced by the early chinese immigrants from fujian. Its also called kiam pong. But the ingredients are different. We use braised pork and chicken with sticky rice and regular rice. We also add pinto beans, black mushroom, dried shrimp, mustard leaves, chinese sausage. All combined and cook in a rice cooker or stove top pot. The burnt bottom makes it more fragrant. Then when scooped into a bowl, we topped it off with fried peanuts, green onions, and fried shallots. We usually pair this with ngo kong soup. and braised tofu and egg. your version is also interesting and will try to make it soon

Hi, just a general tip, have you tried using the stem from broccoli? Cut about 4 or 5mm slices, put in a veggie stir fry. Absorbs the flavours beautifully and you can either cook it quickly & retain the crunch, or a bit longer if you want it softer. I used to throw it away!

Hence I now cooked the ingredients separately n place them on top the rice n then turn on the rice cooker. Tis way I have perfectly cooked rice. I will then mixed the meat n vegetables together with the rice. Can you advise why when I mix all together, some of the rice grains are not cooked through? Thank you.
