@@thechadmosher Hm... I can't see why they'd buzz that, Sir Chad.. "video game invaders" passes the litmus test of being descriptive and is not a prepositional phrase... So if the problem is simply that the "in space" in this context is fictional figurative "space" depicted in a game and not real actual "outer space", I think they'd still allow it (just as they would if "Buck Rogers" or "Star Trek" were given) -- and if they didn't, Dick could probably succeed in fighting for an overturn (provided he knew what Space Invaders was! :p)
This happened on a 1978 episode of The $20,000 Pyramid with Anita Gillette and David Letterman. So,she shouldn't feel too bad about it.At least she's in good company.
Hitchcock movies were easy as well as leather-- wallet purse. Too bad. I give these stars credit for going on these shows then though. Now stars would never do it for looking bad if they lost. It is not as easy on the show with that clock and an audience.
Obviously, you haven't been watching much TV the last few years. The show was revived last year, I believe, as a summer replacement with Michael Strahan as host.
There has been at least two Winner's circle rounds in 80s/Early 90s Pyramid history where no money was won. There has been at least one where two categories were zapped and no money won.
Actually in 1983, there was only Columbia and Challenger in service. Discovery wouldn't launch until August 1984 and Atlantis wouldn't launch until October 1985.
Sputnik isn't bad for 1983 as it was a really big deal in the late 1950s. It would be like referencing Y2K or Monica Lewinsky today in terms of how far in the past it was.
She barely had time to think. Her mind was going a million miles an hour. Poor thing.
My favourite was “Things in Dutch Land”.
When she said that, I knew this could only go downhill faster.
“Things in outer.... LIMITS”?? Wtf
That was painful. Abby Dalton could have listed 20 Hitchcock movies and still gotten that same lost look from the contestant.
My God, how did that woman ever make it to the winner's circle? She just wasn' that sharp.
Oh, come on, she was nervous! Lord knows I would be...
Frankly I’m amazed she got past the fourth grade. I mean there’s dumb and then there’s moronic and then there’s her
I miss Dick Clark and the pyramid. My best friends when I stayed home sick from school
Me too! I used to fake sick so I could watch the price is right and all the other game shows that were on 😂
@@skylilly1 What really sucks is those days are long gone
....things in Space!?!...it was HER!!!!!! 😝
Mars, Stars, Astronauts,
"My head right now..."
For things made of leather: Fonzie's jacket
Awesome show. Yes.
Your belt. Your dad's belt
Motorcycle jacket.
A wallet, a saddle, a cowboys boot.
A saddle came to my mind first.
Geesh, that was BAAAD
I love when I get the title reference in the middle of the show. That was funny
wow....she was BAAAAAAAD!!!!
The skin of a 70 year old sunbather in Ft. Lauderdale.
It would have to be worded “A Floridian sunbathers skin.”
I meant how did the contestant coordinator accept her to come on the show?
Both of them were the worst. Literally the worst clues possible. And the worst answers.
Those Hitchcock movie clues were spot on, but Abby should have included more. The Holland clues were good as well.
A crisp Grant indeed. Literally!
Same thing on a $20K show from 1978.
.... my God !?!!...I didn't know whether to hug or slap her down!!!?!! 😲
I'm voting for the slap.
she didn't think of Psycho?
I don't think it would have helped. It sounded like she knew they were films by someone by she didn't know the name.
Or Vertigo
Wow, was this contestant in over her head!
Don’t need a calculator to add that up.
they should have given it to her when she said Dutch things, as Dutch is the word for something from Holland or more accurately The Netherlands.
I believe in the winners circle, they don’t accept synonyms unless the category provides an additional synonym. You have to say word written.
@@presidentskroob Dutch is not a synonym for Holland.
Dick wasn't amazed by the total this time.
The look on her face when Sputnik was used…
In the contestant's defense, 'a sputnik' was a horrible clue.
Very funny with the Grant.
Wow, Did she NOT KNOW ANYTHING, OR WHAT??
This contestant was just babbling answers without thinking of the clues connection.
I was born on this day.
@suzycreamcheesez, It's real easy to think of clues when there's no pressure
How did she ever get to the winner's circle? Never heard of Hitchcock??? Jesus...
Psycho, The Birds, Dressed to Kill, To Catch a Thief.
@@MusicHandsAbrupt Dressed to Kill was DePalma not Hitchcock

For "Things In Space", would "video game invaders" be a legal clue?

Robert McKee He asked if it was legal. I said yes.
@@thechadmosher Haha - indeed you did. Apologies, I apparently had channeled Abby Dalton's fog of confusion. Carry on :D
Not quite an epic fail, but close enough.

When Tom Poston came for a week in 1986.Probably the only time that happened.
There was one with a gal who chose to give rather than receive and she was TERRIBLE!
@@thechadmosher Thanks! I just watched it. Tom Poston was awful.
@@BelfastBailey Well, no, she did win $25,000 the previous day.
The contestant may have sucked, but at least she was adorable.
Honestly it was both of them. Better clues were available on some of the boxes.
I thought she was irritating as heck.
Did you ever think maybe she was a bit nervous? You try sitting in that seat
How many other times did they not even get to play all six boxes? I remember the one with Tom Poston getting $0, they at least played all six.
TenPoundHammer It is not uncommon.
what is ucommon is to have 2 of them
Not wanting to be mean but how did she get through the qualifying procedure
how can you not associate plantes with space?
Nebula, stars, intergalactic ship, black hole.
I would never associate anything with the word "plantes"
@@bertroost1675 Not even the family of Jacques Plante, the Hall-of-Fame goalie?
The outside of a cow?
Sputnik was her first thought for things in space?
She harkened back to her youth in 1957. It’s like how we will say that the phone was “wiretapped” even though most phones nowadays don’t have wires.
she was dumb!!! she couldn't think of space when she said "planets and stars!!??"
I've seen some dumb contestants before, but that gal takes the cake.
1:07 Here are some clues:
1) The inside of your head!
2) X-ray of your skull!
Neither of those are legal. “Of” is a preposition.
@@thechadmosher 1) Your head's inside
2) Your skull's X-ray.
Judges?
Those are things that have space IN them. A lot of space, I grant you, but that’s not what the category was.
3) A purse… Some car seats…
Tried receiving clues. Terrible clues!
Leather: Belt, Purse
Space: Should have just said "Shuttles"
There were no space shuttles back then! The contestant sucked, not Abby.

She panicked all right. I could have done better. Now how did the contestant accept her for the show?
Things in space: the contestant.
A horses saddle, cowboy boots, (things made of leather)
She could have also said, a belt, a jacket.
Astronaut !!!!!!

Ouch
