Nowadays, no-one would be confident and good enough to try to directly finish the point with a BH flick at a tough situation. At 9-9 everyone goes for a safer shot, or a FH finisher, because it's what's rational, what works. For him, ripping a BH flick at 9-9 was perfectly rational. He is wrong in one thing though: I believe LYJ is just as good as him with the flick.

I honestly think lin yun ju has the best backhand flick in the planet so far. Recovery is a problem tho. He can return every damn service with his backhand flick, that too like a Rocket.

to be fair, the only time they played LYJ lost tons of points because he tried to flick and couldn't because ZJK was way-way better tactically, and at the same time ZJK's flicks were more powerful, he didn't miss and scored directly with them more than half of the time. I think ZJK just doesn't know how much better LYJ has gotten since.
@@ajtatosmano2its not about him not knowing. its about that video being rather old - where all of what zjk said is quite true. his backhand flick was the best, especially in his prime and his shotselection was next to non. in my opinion prime zjk and prime ma long are the pinnacle of this sport. fzd has the potential to play on this level but his consistency is not what they have been able to maintain over quite a few years. considering that i believe zjk didnt play his ego or something, he literally just said the truth and him saying that cannot include lyj because he hasnt been on this absolute worldclass level at the time of the video. he was a good top25 player but not what he is now
