So the real deals are done beforehand off camera ,then they film a reenactment for TV. But it is still a real pawnshop,doing real business so it's not actually fake as you can visit the shop and buy items that have been on TV. Sometimes they invite people with interesting items (that they have no intention of selling) onto the show just for the purposes of making a tv programme and yes it's scripted but still it's not actually fake as it's doing real business

The comics, Avengers 1 and GS X-Men 1, are worth >$12K ungraded now, but could easily get to $16k after a trip to CGC, maybe higher with a clean and press. They certainly would have been a wise purchase at $5500, but I'm sure the episode was filmed years ago and key vintage comics have made remarkable gains over the last 1-2 years. Recently I paid $4500 for a 5.5 (Fine) Avengers 1, not quite as nice as the one on the show, but with white pages and no tanning, and that was a pretty good bargain because full retail is ~$7500.

I probably lost all of the gadgets since I was only about 5 years old at the time. As soon as I saw it, my memory jumped rigjht back to opening that box on Christmas. I didn’t even know what $16,000 was when I was that little. I can’t imagine what kid kept them pristine and in the box for over 40 years? I guess that's why it’s worth so much money? All of the kids lost all of the parts. It was probably only adult collectors that would buy that and keep it pristine for all of those years.

What did I lose? I had around the first 20 issues of every Marvel superhero comic except the Fantastic Four where I started at #3 and that included the Amazing Tales comic that introduced Spiderman.
Also back in the VHS days they wanted you to rewind the tapes before returning them as well, with the "Be kind, Rewind" campaign. Pretty sure they charged you extra if you returned tapes without rewinding them as well.
