I understand. David wow'ed the audience that night. He was top-notch! Every song he sang had their full attention and adoration. Even Andre' Crouch (sp?) said "that boy can sing!" That definately was their best performance of this song. Love that group of guys.
My oh my do I love Michael English's voice. There's just something about it that's just suberb and David is in a league of his own... His fantastic... Their all brilliant
David Phelps gives me goose bumps every time he sings. He's my favorite singer since I was a little kid. :) Soooooooo good. my Lord. That's voice is such a blessing.
I love this song. Also I love the GVB and I think all the guys are awesome singers and I love Mark Lowry's and the others comedy. Love his singing also.
It sounded good to me :) Guess when you appreciate the talent and the message and the Lord who dish out talent anything sound good, esp when all of us do not even come close to how awesome DP's voice and gift....Even on our better day!
Poor David, every performance of this song will always be measured against his performance at Carnegie Hall just 6 months after 9/11. This is great, but that is better. LOVE YOU GUYS. Hoping to see you all on the Christmas tour this year.
Gaither Vocal Band are just the best. i mean Guy Penrod, David Phelps and every body else that i did not mention. and mark Lawry, he is just to funny. praise God they are singing right now. because, they would have said, i don't want to sing. but they are the best. just letting you know if the gaithers if you are reading this, you are the best are i am not perfect.
@hunternova77-I know exactly what you mean. Nothing critical against this performance, I love the guys, but I agree the Carnegie Hall show was beyond phenomenal....to me anyway. Goes without saying, they are incredible!!
not necessarily a bad thing. Artist do this alot in live performances, due to illness, or a tired voice, etc. Also, mark did take the lead on that, whereas Guy mostly did when he was the vocal band. That first verse was probably lowered for Marks range. There is nothing wrong with lowering the key of the song, it doesn't take away the message and power of the song away.
The first verse wasnt lowered for Marks range....Mark is more than capable of hitting the notes without it being lowered.... Several Gaither songs are lowered mainly due to the fact that the songs are originally done so high that David (As good as he is) sometimes needs to have a break from the stratospheric notes that he originally recorded. But as you said....nothing wrong with lowering the key.
I'm totally agree with you buddy! And i guess because they sounded better right¿ i'm not saying that this 5 right here can't but lets face it they Bill, Guy, Russ and David Phelps sang this song better than 'em!
Come on guys! you've got to be objective!! Of course he's an amazing singer... but here didn't do it as he use to... That's what i'm trying to say! I love David's voice but... ok i give up! XD
GASP! I must have watched this clip a dozen times. Just doesn't get much better than this, folks!
David Phelps is the greatest. Combine him with Michael English and, well, it's beyond words...
Love it! All were great and DP was equal to his Carnegie performance after 911. Thanks for posting.
English's voice is almost back to what it was when he won all those Dove awards back in the mid-90's! This song should be played every July 4th!
Wow! I don't know what else to say. This video is just excellent, I mean the quality. Thanks so much.

Mark's voice is so calming. Love to hear that tenor voice indeed.
I love this song. Also I love the GVB and I think all the guys are awesome singers and I love Mark Lowry's and the others comedy. Love his singing also.
The vocal gymnastics David can do always amazes me!
wow. they're just as good in 2000, now it's amazing to see them in 2012 singing as the Gaither Vocal Band I grew up with.
Wow, how many years and times have they sung this song? David sounds just as good as he did 10 years ago.
Praise be unto the most high for thse magnificent Quartet....
Quintet with Bill

Now u got it my friend! But i'm totally agree with you that David most of the time Wow the audience!! =D
This version is absolutely fantastic.
This makes sense. I guess I just am not used to hearing this song in a different key, but it still sounds good.

This couldn’t work without David phelps I don’t think any other tenor can sing those notes like he does

This is in a different key than I'm used to. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
How can David sing that high? :-O o_O :-D

I beg to differ. My opinion is: David doesn't know how to "mess up" a song. :)
I love David. I hate his dark hair!
bajaron la tonalidad >.
