  • In this week’s video, we take a drive of the new Yutong U11DD courtesy of First South Yorkshire and Pelican Bus & Coach. First trialled the bus on its hilly cross-Sheffield route 51 for a number of weeks in October 2023, as part of an evaluation of electric buses for its operations. The bus was also used on a number of other routes, including a university shuttle and the interurban X78 to Rotherham and Doncaster. See issue 1600 for more…

Well built and a pleasure to drive this decker is on a full days driving duty. Very easy to drive and no rattling and random panels falling off like Alexander Dennis and Wright products (yes, the new products from ADL and Wright are that bad). If Mercedes built a decker, I'd imagine it would be like this

Strong hints of Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 City in the styling, especially around the front dome.

I wasn't impressed about this after riding it on Arriva hopper bus 903 in Nottingham, the suspension has poor damping and the whole bus keeps bobbing up and down like a boat especially after speed bumps and potholes which made me feel a bit sick. However my friend also rode this 3 months ago when it was in Sheffield and said the ride was much smoother back then. I wonder if it got ruined by the many different operators which tested it over the past few months

I noticed that with the Cardiff Bus E12s too.
