Cureing Syphilis with Malaria

- just trying to imagine trying to talk the first patient into this. "Hey, you know you're dying and it's horrible? you want to maybe cure it by making it WAY worse first? please? for science?"

This sounds like the "Morphine addiction? Havw ya tried cocaine?"
Solve one thing, but add another problem that would probably somehow make you a witch.
One hundred years ago? lol No.
They also used to treat syphilis with arsenic. I’ve never been happier to live in a time after antibiotics were invented.
They also encouraged use of mercury.
It says "welcome" in tengwar 😍😍😍 this is amazing!
The fairy doors are so cute! ❤❤❤
I love the doors! The colors and shapes are gorgeous! What to the mats say?
It says "welcome" in tengwar, the font created by Tolkien for Lord of the Rings for the elven language but written in English
Now, I have to figure out how to bring up this newfound knowledge in conversation. Also, love the fairy doors.
I think you can start a conversation with it
And this how I ended up with Syphlaria and Malilys.
It took me way too long to realise you were painting multiple doors and I was so confused by the discrepancies between the colours
This is like the one cancer treatment that gives you another cancer..
I had to read a doctoral thesis on the history of psychiatry in Finland for a history course. That is where I came across this practice.
You should make mini tabletop terrain set peices. Like not full sets, that'd be alot of making the same thing, but one cool prop that would be the main focus. Like a scary portal, or an evil alter.
Very interesting and the little doors are wonderful.
I feel like this was in a horrible history book I had growing up. Definitely read it somewhere as a kid.
"Kill or cure" origin, if I recall correctly. Also, it remains befuddling that they figured that out when Lyme (cousin to syphilis but much, MUCH older than syphilis by a few millennia) and Babesiosis (cousin to malaria) are extremely common co-infections, so much so that if bloodwork for Lyme is coming back inconclusive, a Babesiosis test has long been seen as a good fallback as treatment overlaps. Also, the British pronunciation of quinine continues to confuse. That's not remotely how it's written, so how did the British people come to that conclusion?🤔
Anyway, as someone born with Lyme and Babesiosis, this history is one I appreciate getting some air time because very few people outside of medicine have any grasp on malaria and malaria-class protozoas.
I heard pyro-herapy and thought they just burnt the syhills out of em
I literally had this exact convo like an hour ago why is RUclips listening to my words
I actually did know this and no, I don’t know why anymore😅😅
Love these doors😍
This also works for cancer
Hey man
Ya gotta do what you gotta do
I didn't know that, cool door
Sometimes I think I should have been born 100's of years ago. Then I hear stories like this. 😱😅
Ah yes…one of the many plausible treatments that led to burn damage within the body. Its better than nothing I suppose.
Hemophilia? How bout some good ol bloodletting
Problem is you can't cure malaria (you can only treat it, it'll never go completely), so they'd end up with both syphilis and malaria...
You definitely can. Quinine (what they used) can and does kill the parasite and hence cure the disease.
i mean it’s not ideal, but like what else are they gonna do? it worked well enough sometimes
Thin ur paints got dam
