      @President.GeorgeWashington waaaaay too many people are looking at yzerman the player and not.yzerman the GM. Great as a player but trash as a gm. He has made 0 big moves and won't give out a decent contract so players won't come to Detroit. Gretzky was a great player but a terrible coach and yzerman needs to know sometimes you're a better player than an office member. His ego is too big here. He was set up in Florida. If he wasn't why hasn't he fixed detroit like he did Tampa? He has had the time... he needs to go. Put 20 coaches on the team its the players that suck..

    The thing I do like about Yzerman as a GM is the fact that he is not afraid to tell it like it really is during a press conference and he is honest about his assessment of things as they stand today. It has taken longer for this team to get back to competing for a playoff spot than most fans would like, but I do like the fact that he is stating that they are trying to set us up as a team that will be challenging for the Stanley Cup in a few more years on a consistent basis. Bringing Todd back as head coach, who does have coaching experience on this team already and has won over 400 games as a head coach himself for various teams is a wise move. Us Red Wings fans need to be a little more patient here because I think great times are coming again for us but they are not quite here yet.

This guy here gave us so much for so long as a player. He inherited a mess, and has turned it around to a better future - just not as fast as maybe we'd hoped. I know people are frustrated with Yzerman, but do remember he wants us to be setup for the long haul. He’s done a good job of making the team competitive considering where we were when Holland left. Yes, not quite the year we wanted as fans. The plan he had in the off-season hasn’t panned out with Tarasanko and Gustafsson, but hopefully McLellan will help. Always thought our defense was trash under LaLonde. Newsey seemed like an awesome guy, but it was move that had to be done. Stay patient y’all. It’s tough, but the team will be better when the younger kids come up. They’re just starting to climb up to the show.

    • @workshoptelescope
      @workshoptelescope Месяц назад +2

      So, at what point does that cease to be the case? When do we as fans get to stop equivocating about Yzerman having just got here and how hard it was to rebuild the prospect pool? When does any scrutiny fall to him for those picks, the hirings, the signings? Yzerman himself said the roster isn't good enough to win. Ownership has set the expectation this team is to try to make the playoffs, not rebuild anymore. That's why all the fawning praise for the prospect pool gets pushed. Ownership is selling that the rebuild is over, Yzerman has to follow suit. This is the team. There will be nothing better coming.

      I am so tired of this argument. He is in year 6. He had made so many bad free agent signings it isn’t funny. Oh but holland left the team in bad shape.
      Actually holland left the team in good shape for a rebuild. He acquired a ton of draft picks. He had two bad contracts on the books when he left.
      This is now on yzerman. Sorry it’s year 6. This isn’t on holland.

      @@workshoptelescopewhen those picks can actually be evaluated as NHL players.
      You can’t add elite, prime-age talent in the NHL without signing awful contracts that will be unmovable in 3 years in UFA (even worse as a rebuild) or coughing up a ton of picks and prospects in a trade (if the other team even wants that because they’re probably in win-now mode themselves). Holland left us a talent hole from Larkin (28) to Seider (23) that Yzerman hasn’t been able to fill because it’s impossible without fucking yourself for the future, and he still managed to land DeBrincat with an extra first rounder. It isn’t enough though.

McLellan is definitely an upgrade and has some decent NHL stripes and can be the breakthrough coach that we need. @@stevebell4853You are complaining about the roster. I am defending it by saying Yzerman is putting pieces in place. Drafting is part of the construction of a roster. Next time be more specific if you are only complaining about certain aspects of the roster.
      You can't say the next coach needed to go then still blame the players. Maybe certain players are doing poorly exactly because of the coaching. Yzerman made it quite clear that that was his belief. How can you think the coach needed to go, but then can't relate poor performance to the coaching? • @RJazz909
    @RJazz909 Месяц назад +3

    I still trust Yzerman. A change was needed and I think this was the right one. Yes free agency didnt go our way this year but if you take a step back and see who we have coming up in the minors, you just cant help be feel hopeful and excited.
    I believe there was a question asked along the lines of "Who do you see in the lineup today who you think will hoist the cup with the team in the future?" Like he said when he first joined the team, rebuilds can take a decade or more. Yzerman inherited nothing but terrible contracts from aging vets. We're still paying for Abdelkader until 2026 I believe. Anything he's done from when he joined until this point regarding the main Red Wings roster is temporary. I didnt think Perron would ever make it to a cup with the Wings. I dont particularly think Rasmussen or Veleno or even Patrick Kane will see a cup in Detroit. They're more so stepping stones and temporary fillers until we can get the young guys in. Even Lalonde. I vividly recall Yzerman saying something along the lines of them being friends and being able to get a rather cheaper deal signed thanks to that. We needed a change. Lalonde was a cheap answer for that. I dont truly think there was any serious expectation that he was going to be our coach to hoist the cup. He was another stepping stone
    That's not to say the stepping stones aren't important, either. They're super important. We need them to perform and pull their own weight to help the Wings look like the spot to be at. That way free agency can go smoother in the future and we can get better and better players.
    It's a slow process with a lot of moving parts. We may not see the playoffs this year. But I'm very confident we'll see the playoffs within the next 2-3 years at the absolute most. I believe, I have faith. LGRW!

I know The Captain forgot more about hockey and the NHL in the last five minutes than most of us ever knew. With that said it’s a results oriented league. I don’t think Yzerman has a job after this season if they miss the playoffs again if not for his history as a player. He made a change, this season got off to a poor start. Hopefully there is still time to turn this team around and make the playoffs. If they miss the playoffs in spring 2026 I think Yzerman has to go. I also don’t think McClellan’s the coach that will be here when we’re a contender again so I’m expecting yet again another change within 24 months ... we’ll see if I’m right or wrong on that one. But ya yzerman’s running out of chances , we better have some gems coming from those picks

      @@p00l95 You guys are clowns. Every one of Yzerman's first round picks are stars in the making. Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson, Kasper, his first 4 seasons of first round picks are on the team. Holland couldn't do that, which is why 10 years ago with the exception of Larkin that Kenny Holland ruined the team. Zadina, Chosloski, Svechnikov, Rasmussen, Larkin, Sheahan, Mantha, how many of these guys are bonafide first rounders? One, Dylan Larkin, the blame is on Holland. Yzerman will need at least 5 more years of first rounders to grow the team from the draft.

    And Yzerman, people buy merch from idols, from heroes. They look to something with confidence and stability. They dont buy sweaters from losers that wont earn their paycheck. Yall are way overpaid. When was the last time you actually visited the minors? Ever talk to the players maybe in the ECHL? They make jack squat and work a regular job just like everyone else to support their families. People that buy your sweaters, buy your merch work hard for that money. You know how much they work to buy a $500 Fanatics brand sweater made to same quality Larkin wears and is given for free? And how much they pay for tickets? Hard working citizens you take for granted to support your lifestyle. Imagine how Blackhawks, Predators, Sharks, and Sabres fans all feel? Theyre feeling even worse
