    Timestamps / Table of Contents:
    ✩ Intro: 0:00
    ✩ What Are Linzess & Trulance: 1:12
    Linzess is linaclotide. Trulance is plecanatide. Both drugs belong to the same class-they are both guanylate cyclase-C agonists.
    ✩ How Do Linzess & Trulance Work: 2:27
    Both Linzess and Trulance increase the amount of fluid in the intestines, which softens stool and increases intestinal transit time. They may help to decrease abdominal pain, but this has only been proven in non-human animal studies. Both drugs are meant to be taken daily. Linzess is taken on an empty stomach 30 minutes before eating. Trulance can be taken with or without food.

    → How Does Trulance Work? www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
    ✩ History, Price, & Drug Interaction Considerations: 7:10
    Linzess was the first approved guanylate cyclase-C agonist on the market in 2012. Trulance was approved in 2017. Both drugs cost around $500 for a 30 day supply and are usually not covered by insurance. Linzess has known drug interactions with: levothyroxine, bisacodyl, psyllium, magnesium hydroxide, and omeprazole. Trulance is known to interact with idelalisib.

      Question does trulance cause UTI?

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  3 года назад +1

      @@Weloveyoupyrex Hmm, I'm not sure how the medication itself would cause a UTI. Maybe if someone's body was getting used to the medication and had diarrhea as a response, they could be more prone to UTIs? A lot of UTIs are caused by e. coli, and diarrhea definitely encourages e. coli to travel to the urethra!

    I've suffered ibs for many years. Trulance and linsess are so expensive and cause extreme diarrhea.
    I've found that squeezing half a lemon into a glass of simply limeade every nite before bed moves my bowels every morning. I've been doing this for a couple months and go ,like clockwork every morning.

    I am absolutely over the moon that you made this video!! For someone who has struggled with pelvic floor dysfunction and ibs-c I have been on a LONG journey! After trying linzess in 2018 and not having good results with it and it losing its effectiveness, i had to resort to every laxative under the sun as well as pelvic floor therapy and I was SO miserable and the skinniest and sickest I had ever been! Since going through all of that! I finally have come a long way! I now avoid gluten, soy and dairy and eggs and it’s been a game changer for the pain aspect/nausea but I still unfortunately struggle with constipation! Not as severely as before but still frequently! No rhyme or reason for it! My doctor just brought up trulance today and after I heard the recommendation, I came on here to search RUclips for review! Your video was the first I came across and I truly believe everything happens for a reason! You answered everything I was needing to hear! It’s people like you who really do make a difference and help so many of us!

    Great explanation, thank you so much - better than my doctor visit. My doctor gave me samples of Trulance, he ignored the price! I can't afford them...he should have asked. I have slow transition I think it's age related, I now run, do yoga and take psyllium caps and prune juice. I'm not constipated but it's not normal either, too wet and too many movements. Trying to find the balance is difficult, going to try no prune juice as that has made things where I need 4 trips to the bathroom in the morning. Getting older sucks.

      I'm so glad that this video was helpful for you, but I'm so sorry to learn that you're struggling with keeping your stool consistency normal. It sounds like you've trialed different interventions and are working on creating a routine with the right combination for you. It can be tricky and frustrating, but it sounds like you're figuring out your GI system and what works best for it, slowly but surely! Guts don't love change, and they can take a little while to get used to a new routine, but don't give up on your body! Bodies are amazing, and they are capable of such healing when we give them the optimal supportive environments - and it sounds like you're close to figuring out what that supportive environment looks like for your body 🧡

It can be so frustrating, navigating a more "mysterious" condition - but bodies are really incredible and they're capable of SO much healing when we support them with the right environments. Hey tory (please correct my spelling). So I was on linaclotide amatriptalin and pregabalin .......(I would rather die) than go back on it. As you know it's surgery now for me... I think when I first started it I told you how horrible it was... I have never in my life gone through torture but my Gastrointestinal specialist certanly put me through the wringer.
    That increased fluid pushes the hard lump towards the exit and when you poop for the first time it's like firing a rock out your arse followed by a whole lot of water at force!. I have recorded every BM I have had in the last 3 years. 30bms a day....watching them you are able to tell when I am on the drug and when I am not. and I can testify to the side effects of linzes. The joy of having a Marked Gastrocolic Reflex.
    Brilliant to see you looking somewhat better.

      And thank you! It’s been about 4.5 months know, just around the 19-20 week mark. I’ve not had any pain for more than 2 weeks which is amazing. Now I either feel normal or I feel non-painful nerve symptoms (pressure, tingles, temperature changes, I bet you have an idea of what I’m talking about!)

    I believe that I have a constriction in my large intestine much like an hour glass. When I had a barium enema years ago they could only get the barium halfway up the large intestine and on the flouriscope I could see that the bowel was constricted there and would not let the barium mixture flow past the blockage. they gave me a shot and told me that I might get nausea. That was the understatement of the century. this nausea came at me as though I was tied down on a track and the train was coming in the distance. Then it hit me and I dry heaved like I was having a bad hangover. I can feel pain at times on my side above the large intestine and can hear fluid squishing through and this sometimes feels like a steak knife poking my gut. I am very fortunate that I can get my Trulance from the VA and it costs me 12 dollars a Month. Trulance worked for me within two hours when I first took it,

    Fascinating. How do they compare to Miralax, colase, etc other over the counter drugs?
    By the way Linzess is now covered by Medicare drug plan as a “tier 3” (perhaps higher I forget) which means there is an annual $425 deductible on the tier but only $40 per month after that.

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  3 года назад +3

      Thank you so much for sharing about the Medicare coverage! And that's a good question. Miralax is an osmotic laxative (it draws water into the intestines which both softens the stool and stimulates peristalsis), Colace is technically a stool softener, not a laxative, because it doesn't stimulate peristalsis. But Linzess and Trulance have different mechanisms of action than OTC drugs like Miralax and Colace, they're intended for longer term use specifically for people with chronic constipation, and they seem to sometimes have a soothing effect on abdominal pain!

      I'm so sorry that you're feeling scared. Medications are tricky, in that all of them have side-effects, and there's no real way of knowing how a medication will affect your specific body without trying it first. I wish I could tell you what the right decision is, but unfortunately, I cannot :( I can only encourage you to trust your intuition, do your research, and have open conversations with your providers.
      IBS-C can be difficult to treat, and you're right. There aren't a lot of treatment options available. Have you considered or tried pelvic physical therapy at all? While a pelvic PT cannot treat the IBS, she can help to correct any dysfunction in the pelvic floor/abdomen that may be contributing, assess your rectal tissue health and sensitivity, work with you to create an optimized bowel routine, and potentially help you with more conservative dietary-based management interventions! If you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a provider near you: pelvicrehab.com/
      I'm sorry that I can't be more helpful, and I do truly wish you the best in your healing. Don't give up - bodies are capable of immense healing when we support them with the right environments, it's figuring out what that environment looks like that can be so tricky. Your body is no exception 🧡

    I have never heard of those I have only ever used Buscopan (hyoscine Butylbromide) and I get the feeling it doesnt work after a while?
    We used to liken peristalses to how a worm moves. It lengthens its body to move forward then contracts to pull the back end after it and its these lengthening and contracting movements in the worms peristalses that are how your gut pushes food through itself. By lengthening and narrowing followed by contractions which shorten and widen. After having listened to you I think I could live without either of these and really feel that understanding my own body and what its sensitive to is a much more sensible approach.

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  2 года назад

      I'm not familiar with Buscopan, but other medicines related to the gut can, over time, lose efficacy (I'm thinking stimulant laxatives and the like).
      I love the peristalsis and worm movement imagery! And it's really cool that understanding your body and its sensitivities feels like the better approach to you. I never, ever, shame anyone for their choice to pursue pharmaceutical interventions - I truly believe they can be life-giving and life-saving - but I always opt for them as a last resort, if trying to understand my body and support her naturally isn't working. It's cool that you're going that route, and I really hope it works for you 🧡

    Hello beautiful, that was such an extremely insightful video! I’m so happy I found you. I had been taking Linzess for a while now thinking it was the only option since all else fails or isn’t good for the body not knowing that it interacted with levothyroxine, which I am on for hypothyroidism. I also have chronic fatigue syndrome, which I think being constipated has a lot to do with & micro prolapse valve which I’m told makes me take on water in the body in my heart and also water goes into my lungs. I guess everywhere else than in the bowels 🤦🏼‍♀️ I took the 5 marker test and was told they barely moved at all after the five days but my coverage doesn’t cover the drug so I’ve been getting it from a doctor who gives me the samples. I guess they don’t know it interacts with levelthyroxine & might be why some people complain of fatigue after because if they have hypothyroidism and they’re on that medication, when they introduce Linzess and it takes away from that medicine it could have them feeling fatigued bc hypothyroidism makes you feel tired, and the medicine helps to combat that. I just got a sample of Truelance and wanted to see the differences luckily I found your video bc I would have never known the medicine interactions. I’ve never heard of trueLance, but Linzess commercials are everywhere and under side effects. It never states that there are any drug interactions. Given my diagnosis of chronic fatigue among all the others I’m told are taking away from my energy I can’t afford to deal with the medicine that makes you feel fatigued, or interacts with levelthyroxine. Thank you for all your help!

    I have 10yrs with CIC, Gastroparesis, etc. Been using saline enemas for almost every bowel movement since 2014. Also- for me, magnesium citrate works well with coconut water + dulcolax pink added to force BM's. This is how i prep for colo procedures. Mirilax does very little for me. Neither does fiber. Exercise helps very little and can sometimes cause me even MORE pain. Multivitamin use helps some. Sometimes I get lucky if i drink Walmart brand Berry Blend juice before bed. The med Linzess gave me intense enuresis reactions and i quickly discontinued use. About to try Trulance. Also, i suspect that i may be suffering from AHP - Acute Hepatic Porphyria as a root cause to my complex autosomal dysfunction.

But it’s better than the constipation. I no longer have the gas & bloating all day like I did before linzess. But my doc is concerned so I need to provide a stool sample and he has me on a sample of trulance now for the week. Hopefully it’ll be just as effective minus the diarrhea.

    TY for your info. I am 85yrs old with a Hx of CIC..and now I am taking Ferrous Sulfate which is very constipating. I am a retired RN. I have hyperparathyroidism non treated and unresolved….also Iron Deficiency Anemia. I take Ferrous SulfateAll recently diagnosed. I live in Henderson NV. WHERE MEDICAL CARE IS LESS THAN ADEQUATE. I have taken Linzess with no effect except explosive diarrhea. I have taken Dulcolax with it because I had no BM for seven days at a time. Can you give me any advice on what to do next . I am getting very discouraged. 🙏🙏🙏

    I’ve been taking Trulance for 3 weeks and I still only have a bm every three days. How long does it take for this medicine to work? I still have to rely on miralax to have a bm too, i feel like Trulance is not worth taking at this point.

      Hi! It sounds like you're asking me if a woman who has had a c-section twice due to having a narrow pelvis would be able to have another baby? I am so honored that you feel comfortable asking me this question, but this sounds like a unique case that would need to be evaluated in person by a medical professional. I really wish I could be more helpful, and I wish you and yours nothing but the best ♥️

      I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles with defecation. I wish I could be more helpful, but I cannot give individualized medical advice, and I don't really have any way of knowing more about you/your body without assessing you myself.
      That being said, have you ever heard of pelvic physical therapy? A good pelvic PT would be able to assess your pelvis, body, and lifestyle habits to try and help you piece together why you're experiencing smaller-sized poop that doesn't seem right to you.

    The fatigue comes from running to the toilet multiple times a day and having the world fall out your bottom over 20min per time in the loo....it also comes from having to wash clothing (because of stealthy ninja poops) and then needing to get into the shower to clean up.

Cause of it will take 2 to 3 weeks I am still on laxatives smooth move tea, 4 casara sagrada, miralax, and antacid..It hurts my back to squeeze when constipated. It will also go all of the inside by my vagina. I'm going to try your exercises to see if this will help me. I was told to get off all laxatives cause my colonoscopy showed some of colon was black.

    • @PelvicEmpowerment
      @PelvicEmpowerment  3 года назад

      Hmm, seeing you say that you have pain with defecation and the feeling of stool going inside by your vagina, it may be helpful for you to get a pelvic physical therapist on your healthcare team! A pelvic PT could assess your pelvic floor/surrounding musculature/lifestyle habits and help you figure out why you're having back pain with defecation/the feeling of something by your vagina, and help you treat those things!
      If you live in the US, you can use this directory to find a provider near you: pelvicrehab.com
      If you choose to use a pelvic PT, be sure to ask the front desk if the provider you're being paired with can treat bowel dysfunction, not all pelvic PTs are trained in this area.

I was eating tomatoes but I started coughing a lot having bronchiectasis. So I stopped them. Yesterday I was going much. Today I'm impacted in with hard poop. Put my finger in vagina and felt it all the way up to vagina wall. I also had eggs yesterday. I put my finger in rectrum to help it come out. I've also been doing massage my intestines.

      Wow, thank you SO much for bringing this to my attention! I am very mindful of ad placement in my recent videos, but I'm realizing that RUclips automatically placed ads in some of my older ones and this one is FULL of them. I went in manually deleted most of them, now there should only be two, at the ~3 min mark and at the ~14 min mark. Thank you so much again for telling me - I'm wondering if I need to carve out some time to check all of my old videos now. Dang.

      Wow! Just took the time to go through my videos, and I think sometimes RUclips doesn't save where I manually place ads during the original upload and then auto-populates ads afterwards bc I found this kind of 400 ads/video things randomly throughout all of my content, not just the old stuff. Really valuable lesson, I'll double check all of my videos after they officially go live from now on. Thank you again!

      Try taking it before bed. I’ve been taking LINZESS for 10 years. And it’s changed my life. Taking before bed helps my body run all the stool during the night, and 6-8 hours later I have a great bowel movement in the morning. It’s mostly diarrhea. But my pain and discomfort are gone for the day!
