I enjoy your XT videos owning one myself. It's nice to see them doing what they are capable of and not wearing street tyres or 17" wheels. I usually get 60mpg out of my XT with a mix of off and on road riding. Mine is a pre o2 sensor model with open pipes and a kevx air temp adjuster. I've had 70mpg with just road use. I must ride it to slowly... 🤔
@@OFFroadOFFcourse It does make a noticeable difference to improving the on/off throttle transition. Its never going to substitute a Power Commander but for the money I wouldn't expect it to. With mine being a MY06 bike I didn't need an o2 eliminator so worked out a cheap mod.

Once I did exactly 4L at 100Km, I went on tour to the beautiful city Castelo Branco to meet some friends , all travel was on fast roads, never more then 130 Km h .I always use for the road Metzeler Tourance , off road I think it can be less fuel . I`m very happy with it. I do ride every day never less then 40 Km. Its nice bike. Will be with me forever. Cant sell it ... 288 000 Km already and never did fail on me. Thanks for the tip off MXT , I was looking for someone who could upgrade my back shook , I think is only on the spring now, I`ll give them a call. Ty again for the tips.
Did you just say 288,000km? I bet a lot of people don't believe an XT (which is not considered a "premium" bike) could last that long :P Mine has 80k... feels as fresh as the day John bought it :P (I'm the third owner)

Entertaining as usual! Also, the sound of your bike is very familiar to me... LOL. You had some low speed single track on that route, so this would have been detrimental to the fuel efficiency. I get the same consumptions on my XTZ660 and this includes an occasional thrashing on local single track here as well as a few pillion trips.
I just love the sound of this bike... its smooth, calming, like a big cats purrrrr... I don't like it when the mechanical parts are screaming for help :P
Hey think they are from VICMA (a "white brand"). I think you can find similar ones anywhere on Amazon, Ebay, etc. Quite generic ones =) If I can, I never pay for "brand" stuff.
About to go on my first ride with my XT660X. Bought for touring and dirt. 2007 with 5400miles from new, I'm the 4th owner. Hoping to have many adventures, and maybe plonk the misses on too. Anyone done much pillion riding on their 660? Information is priceless. Saw a video online bloke went to Japan with his partner. Cheers

Ok, I will try! Some information: I bought a WP shock from ebay that was meant for the XT660. Nowadays WP doesnt make these shocks anymore (its an older version) so its going to get the upgrades. BUT...the guys on MXT asked: "Why didnt you by a YSS shock instead?" ... so that is what I would have done today (if I knew YSS shocks were any good). YSS are cheap (~350€), and they seem to be alright... of course if you want to spend a buck you the TFX, the Wilbers and the Ohllins
yss is cheap yeah but i couldnt find any bad review or negative .instead people that review it has good word but im struggling finding someone with offroad use of that shock.. love you ideas man keep it up.
I don't have the bike with me, but I will try not to forget and check it asap. I know we changed the CO2 settings to make the low rpms and the popping a bit better, but I don't remember the numbers (just google it, its what we did :D)

Hello! Thanks for watching! My shock is an old wp shock they used to make for the xt660r, but not anymore (it is from back in the day when tractive and WP were the same brand). I recommend you get a shock from YSS. They have solutions for the xt and its awesome! A friend of mine just did that upgrade and he is super satisfied :)
Glad to hear you are keeping the XTR, i think i`ll upgrade mine too with some WP forks i have from a other bike. i wanted a lighter, low'isch maintanance bike for some stealth offroading as offroading is not allowed in most places in the Netherlands and Belgium but bikes are so darn expensive at the moment and i really want to do some more offroading this year. do you know by any chance which springs you have in yours? i think i have the same year forks as you have.

I'd try pumping up your tyres to the maximum psi printed on the side of them, makes a big difference to rolling resistance. Also just curious what modifications you have on the engine i.e. ECU upgrade?

Hey Stephen, thanks for commenting! Well, my XT never ever consumed more than 6L/100km, usually 5 its the overall average. So its pretty close to 300km (with the 15litre tank)... however, thats a game you don't want to play :P Adding a 3-5L plastic cannister somehwere on the back, tied up to the luggage should fix the problem =) If you want a tank just like mine, you can get them through "Gilimoto" :)
Nice content, can you tell me which shock exactly (type and or donor bike) you got there. Got a 660 r as well and consider to upgrade the rear suspension as well. Thanks in advance mate
Best shock would be the tractive one. This one is an old generation WP shock (before WP and tractive split up in these 2 companies). I dont think you can find WPs for XT660R anymore
Congratulations! i will last forever xD I am using a generic fatbar (28mm) one. From "Vicma" i believe. Not the best, but very cheap. If you want something more fancy i'd go for the Renthal twinwall. Has for the shape of it, it really depends on your taste :o i usually like the "CR high"

I've used a XT600E for many years and many off-road kilometers =) It is a great bike that (just like the XT660R) is a bit "unloved" for some reason. I understand that there are better bikes out there, but the XTs are great bang-for-the-buck. Right now I am using in the front the Michelin Anakee Wild (love it!) and on the rear the Mitas E09. I don't specially like the mitas, but its cheap, long lasting and its so stiff, I TRULLY believe its run-flat. If you ever get a puncture I don't think its gonna make much of a difference. I don't recommend the Anakee Wild on the back simply cause it wears out too fast. Before the Mitas e09 I had the Pirelli MT21, which is very good but it goes fast too :/

In your case I wouldn't go for the XT660 because you already have a travel motorcycle. The XT660 is almost 205kg (181 dry), mine is 186 Wet cause I took a lot of weight out already, and there is no point of riding around on a 200kg off-road dedicated bike. If you want a cheap dual-sport mostly for offroad, try the DR650, the XT600, NX650, TT600, or, if you want to go smaller, the DR350SE, DRZ400, TT250 and TT250raid, etc =) (Note, the XT600 is only 165Kg dry... and much cheaper than the XT660)

@@DaveZee01 The 660 is fuel-injected which to some people is a big advantage (I agree) These bikes are smoother, they don't require so much tuning and second-guessing and they work flawlessly all the time. Carb bikes also work very well of course, but sometimes they need a bit more mechanical fiddling. But long story short, the XT660R (or the Z) is one of the smoothest and sturdiest single engines out there, a true pleasure to use on the road, and I think thats its biggest advantage. It does off-road a little worse than the lighter and older ones, but than it acts like a proper ADV bike on the road =)

Mesmo a XT660R já me parece pesad de mais para aquilo que gostava. Maybe this could be a unicorn, should we, indiana jones types, ever warm up to electronics? i can't understand how a 500cc can be so light... just about 20kg heavier than my 100cc. Beautiful road at 1:44, could even be a wallpaper. Good music also! Nice video, keep them coming!
Thank you for the comment! I don't think a 500EXC would ever be a unicorn for me, cause "my" unicorn must handle on-road travelling with a bit of comfort (although my focus is in fact the offroad). To ride for 50-150km (road) from time to time its easy on any dual-sport, from the CRF250L, to the DRZ400, DR650, XT660, etc... but when its more than that, I really like to have a little bit of comforts. The XT660R allows me to ride 300-400km easy (not fun, not exciting, but easy and comfortably), and I don't really think you can have that on a 500exc (maybe I am wrong). On my way to Croatia I did 850km in one day with the XT660R, and it was ok! Maybe has ard has doing 300km on the EXC or any other smaller bike.... too much but possible :D If I was doing a RTW, definitely I would consider something like the 500, or even my beloved DR350... cause when you are travelling for months, your mindset is different. You are not in a rush and you are appreciating all the little things. When you are just moving around in your own country, maybe just going on the road just so you can reach the offroad event... it gets boring very fast :D

The tank is the same, but I am using an aftermarket one from Gilimoto (Brasil) ;)

I don't think a 500EXC would ever be a unicorn for me, cause "my" unicorn must handle on-road travelling with a bit of comfort (although my focus is in fact the offroad). To ride for 50-150km (road) from time to time its easy on any dual-sport, from the CRF250L, to the DRZ400, DR650, XT660, etc... but when its more than that, I really like to have a little bit of comforts. The XT660R allows me to ride 300-400km easy (not fun, not exciting, but easy and comfortably), and I don't really think you can have that on a 500exc (maybe I am wrong).
On my way to Croatia I did 850km in one day with the XT660R, and it was ok! Maybe has ard has doing 300km on the EXC or any other smaller bike.... too much but possible :D
If I was doing a RTW, definitely I would consider something like the 500, or even my beloved DR350... cause when you are travelling for months, your mindset is different. You are not in a rush and you are appreciating all the little things. When you are just moving around in your own country, maybe just going on the road just so you can reach the offroad event... it gets boring very fast :D

Put an electric bike part in it, when driving slow make it move electric
