Thank you for the clearest tutorial of all. One possible aid to a first timer like me, try this: When folding the diagonals, lay a straight edge down firmly between the two points for forming any diagonal. Bend the paper up against the the straight edge a little past half way. The fold is then visibly formed and with the straightedge removed the fold can be completed accurately to completion by hand.

Does this require strong-ish printer paper? I use it and it still turns out stupidly bad, it doesn’t move infinitely like shown in the video, and the triangle part never turns out great, it doesn’t stick together, it’s separated, and you can NEVER fold out the triangle part because then it just crumples.

12:49 I tried it your way but if your paper is ordinary printer paper it is not stiff enough, and most likely crumples into a mess. It is far far easier to fold it horizontally so you make a tube (a chain of triangular pyramids) before joining the ends to complete the hexagon. However you have to cut the paper just a bit differently so all diamonds are whole. Maybe I'll make my own video...

While this is not the type of hexaflexagon I was looking for, it is very neat. If one does not do the last series of (valley, not mountain as stated) folds, the whole thing CAN be reduced to a 2 dimensional hexagon and returned to the three hexagon sided shape. Just valley fold one of the three entire hexagon sides along its vertical midline axis collapsing it into the sandwich of the other two sides. You now meet your "self" imposed requirement for being called a hexaflexagon! One could then go one to make the cycling "blooming" effect before backing up again and going flat for both "compliance" and easy flat storage. What I was looking for was the hexagon (or sometimes octagon) which initially seems to be flat and two sided, but can be manipulated to show 6 to 8 different colored sides and may even contain hidden paper pop-ups (like in some greeting cards with pop-up scenes) or spring loaded flowers, etc. I have a book on making one, but the instructions are not easy to follow, so I would love to watch the actual process needed to make one (a video of that, especially with step by step instructions would be fantastic!) WAS IT EASY? The only difficult part was the explanation of drawing the lines. My first try came out as a hexagon and two pentagons, I'm not sure how I did that. The next time I got it right. Not easy or hard; just a slight learning curve. THANKS VERY MUCH - Thumbs UP and SUBSCRIBING!

Best origami ever. It is the hardest origami I’ve made but it’s totally worth it. I’m not experienced but if you put your heart into it you’ll do it well
